One might as well ask, "Since my children will grow up and leave me, should I feed and clothe and care for them?"

Yes, we SHOULD be concerned. As long as Jesus tarries (and who knows when He will appear?) we need make sure to leave a livable planet for our descendants.

And there is the argument that we are STEWARDS of Creation, not its owners, because actually "The earth is the Lord's and its fulness..."

Actually a christian should not trash anything.

mackey, do you drive a car???do you buy products that require hazardous processes to maunfacture?? billions of people using products, burning coal, driving cars, nuclear power plants, chemical plants, sewage plants, and trash dumps,we can care and should . but remember this world can only sustain a limited amount of pollution, from a finite number of factors that affect it.yes much can heals itself. problem is people are doing the deed to the planet.

The planet is our home we should care for it as we do our individual homes. To care for something isn't the worship of something. God instructs that humans are the caretakes of this beautiful planet. I wouldn't want to be responsible for the blatant distruction of God's creation; we should take care of it.

This earth might be temporary but that is no reason to 'trash' it. God made it so we should care for it. Only He knows how many more generations are to come after us and I am sure that He wishes us to treat His creation with respect and care for it for the generation/s to come. For the Christian this is not Earth Worship but to those who believe that this is all there is, their care of the planet is for different reasons as they do not accept that there will come a time when this earth will not be needed.

The Lord in Genesis gives us dominion over all of the Earth, to keep and maintain.
I live in a place with a couple of druids and pagans, and they are very much for the protection of the Earth.
I believe that the church should be leading the campaign for a just Earth and society, then people might listen to us more.

It is never right to destroy what God has given us. When you destroy it, you are saying you aren't grateful.

So Helen, I guess when you take a bath it is called Helen worship?

The time is short, nonetheless human beings still live on this planet. Heaven and earth will pass away, but we are not to destroy it. "And they that use this world, as not abusing: for the form of this world passes away." I Corinthians 7:31.

Many students asked me about caring for the planet when I was in China. Of course they believe they're going to live here forever so they better take care of it. But for a Christian I feel that Helen's answer is correct and please be cognizant of this, the Scriptures say, that all things will be Made new.

Helen, do you avoid washing your clothes because one day they will be all worn out and thrown away, besides just getting dirty again?

We should obey laws like not littering, but as far as preserving the planet goes - NO! I heard a sermon on this once ... all they are doing to preserve the planet and all the talk about pollution etc. -- it is called EARTH WORSHIP. Amazing how people want to do everything to preserve the Earth, not realising that one day God is going to burn it all up!
---Helen_5378 on 6/17/06

I would say that would affect your public testimony seeing that it is against the law to litter. Not to mention that it is extremely lazy and selfish. What about "the meek shall inherit the earth?"
