I Have Watched 10 R Rated Movies

We are very careful about movie viewing, having seen less than 10 R rated ones, ever. At a Bible Study, my wife mentioned seeing one R video together, and it was beneficial. One person went ballistic over that. Should we confront that person about being falsely judgmental?

Moderator - No, because that would come across as being prideful. Sounds like you agree with them except for the few times you have watched an R movie. If so, address things from that angle if at all.

Some subjects cannot be protrayed dramatically without being R rated.

They might well be unobjectonable to adults, or even Christians.

"R" does not necessarly mean "sexual content." Even if it did, some part of the Bible would be rated R or even X.

I suggest you use it as an opportunity to discuss your family's beliefs concerning movie viewing with this person. Ask what they believe, and then share what you believe. See if you can find some common ground. If not, then just say, in love, "I am sorry you disagree with our decision. I appreciate you discussing this with me in love."

R is restricted to people over the age of 17 PG- 13 they must be 13
PG parental Guidance
G general.
of course all of these rates do nothing really because if the parent says it's ok anyone can go. and no one really checks anyways.

I watch alot of R rated movies as well as g,pg, pg 13. Many movies are good to use for illistrations. Just be careful of what you watch, and focus on christ. those that judge probably watch just as many R or worse movies, mainly because we judge people because they remind us that we are just as wrong.

Just ask them if you will be judged under law or grace. See what their answer is.

Hey, guys & gals!

Thank you for the advice.

I saw Mel Gibson in "the Patriot" rated R. It was a fine film. I saw George Cloony in a film called 'Solarus"-rated pG 13-It was sacraligious trash, it made me very uncomfortable. Ratings cannot always be trusted.

Did you know that full frontal nudity (women) are allowed on PG movies?

Moderator - Many times PG13 movies should be rate X.

1/2 Two of them I watched were Schindler's and Passion. Both excellent films

The one objected to, has a dysfunctional, abusive Southern family, lots of swearing, some sex scenes (no breasts or beyond). Yeah that is raunchy.

2/2 However, the protagonist learns to "forgive the parents for being human" Thus the pathos was needed for plot development, and it was semi-cathartic in that it helped both of us (abuse victims) see things in our lives. In that respect it was positive.

Wife has noticed a distancing between her and the offended one already, so I wonder if the "meritorious exception" rule will cut it.

John T, I agree with Madison. It is an opportunity to build a relationship, even if you don't ultimately agree in the end, especially if you do so humbly rather than defensively. At the very least, you'll learn more about that individual and how you can pray for them.
---daphn8897 on 6/21/06

John T., at least you are aware of what you watch and take it for what it is. Did that come out right? Maybe if all us christians would find a bubble, or a deserted island to live on, then maybe we "might" not be exposed to all this "fleshly, anti-christ media properganda". I would hate to think I was going to hell because I watch a man made "R" rated movie that had no influence what-so-ever on my life. I would call that borderline fanaticism.
---Fred_S. on 6/21/06

"The Passion of the Christ" was 'R' rated, I watched that.

I used to think if a movie said it contained 'adult language' that it would have some big interesting words that I could learn, wrong! :-)

What about the passion of the Christ?
Ask her if she's seen it, have you seen it?
If a movie is telling God's story and not glamorizing any perversion we commonly see in movies, then amen.
In churches do we not paint graphic pictures of violence and lust to show God's principles the greater?
The scriptures don't shy away from exposing the deeds of darkness, but they do it in the right spirit.
Maybe you could assure them that you'll ask them before you watch another film?

You should pray about it. Maybe God is speaking to you through this person, that what you thought was being beneficial, was something you shouldn't have. Or, maybe they are jumping to conclusions. Let God speak to you.
