How To Grow A Church

Church attendance is down. Sundays have become a day to sleep in and run errands all afternoon. How can Christians get people interested in coming to church again? Any ideas? Especially ideas that have had success in your home church?

Run the church the way the Apostles did. That's too risky isn't it.

Where did we ever get the notion the pastor was supposed to stand and give an hour long sermon? I see the church in the Bible using and perfecting their gifts, not sitting quetly being good little Christians and then going home and forgetting it all. And we wonder why more than half of our 'Christians' aren't really even saved!

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel (make them) them to come in, that my house may be filled. Luke 14:23 I'm sure that Jesus did not mean to force them to come but He certainly implies beseeching (to request urgently or implore)

The word of God says there shall be a great falling away before the end. Rather than worry about church size pastors should be teaching their flocks that they may "endure unto the end" as Jesus warned. If the unbelieving depart, let them depart. The Lord is no sissy that will beg man to follow. He said "follow me" once and they followed. There is nobody nor nothing in this world that is worth going to hell over. If they walk away, don't make a god out of them begging.

many people are walking away from the churches today, i guess it really depends on the church you go to, people are searching for truth..freedom in chirst, they need to be taught of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, they need to be taught that God loves them just as they are, God is there with them, the church needs to open the door to all that comes in, i think that is how Jesus did it...mary4964

Melissa - Get them in the door by simply praying. The Lord will honor those prayers and He will bring them in. Just preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified -- GET BACK TO THE CROSS.

I never thought of it that way before. Our church has about 20-25 people on a good day. So you believe, Heather, that this is the remnant already? The church might not show any significant growth before the end?

The focus should be on preaching Christ and him crucified. If the unbelieving depart, let them depart. Teach them that are faithful to endure unto the end. Honour those who love the Lord and realize that contrary to common teaching there will come a great falling away in churches that preach the truth. When Christianity is popular something's wrong. Those high attendance super-centers may just be dishing out flesh instead of the word.

Amen! Thanks, Helen, but how do you get them in the door to hear the truth of the Cross? You can't force people in - they have to have the desire to come to church. Then our job is clear - love them, show them Christ and pray for them.

Get back to the CROSS OF CHRIST, Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
