2 John 1:10 and 11. I think that these verses are a warning regarding how closely we become involved with those trying to bring us 'another gospel' e.g. J.Ws. |

I like Helen's answer. I think the Scripture refers specifically to Jehovah witnesses and Mormons in our day and time. |

The phrase "God speed" is often used as a blessing on those departing on a journey,or on a mission. (and Jack says it may be used as a welcome) The passage here says that if you give such a blessing or welcome to one who has a false doctrine, you are endorsing that false doctrrine, and so are evil. |

Exactly Creamcup, and we wouldn't want to add God's blessing to antichrist or those who preach a false gospel. |

I think God's speed is God's blessing. |

Cute John_T. :-)
Mima, the full context is straight forward:
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 1:10-11.
Now which doctrine? Isn't it that Jesus is come in the flesh-v7? Notice we are asked to keep the original Commandments. |

The Scripture refers to greeting those who bring another gospel, and that we should not let them into our household because we would be partaking of their evil deeds. We should be very careful not to help anyone in any way e.g. taking their literature if they are bringing another gospel. |

The Greek word rendered "Godspeed" in the KJV is XAIPETE, which is simply the generic greeting in Greek (as it is today), simply meaning, 'Howdy" or "Hello." |

Please give the scripture reference, so we can see the context in which it was said. |
