Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, ect. He breathed into Adam and he became a living SOUL. Adam had a spirit. Adam was a living soul, Adam knew no sin. made in the image and likeness of God. the image of God refers to the immaterial part of man. It sets man apart from the animal world, fits him for the dominion God intended him to have over the earth Gen. 1:28, and enalbes him to commune with his Maker. It is a likeness mentally, morally, and socially.Mentally created to be rational. Morally created in righteousness. Socially created fro fellowship.

No man has seen God at any time because God is a spirit. In His image we'r created Is the flesh of Jesus Christ. That Is the only way those in The N - Testament can see God.
---Lawrence on 8/3/10

God is the King of all creation, Jesus is the King of the Jews. Man was created to be kings (rule and reign) in a kingdom (earth).
---Leslie on 1/29/08

Being made in God's image, is not about physical or characteristics. It is about the fact that we have a spirit and are able to choose right or wrong. We are all made in God's image.
---Bruce5656 on 1/28/08

I think it is the body mind and spirit too, but more importantly we are created to live in a community of love. which is the image of God.

Body, soul, Spirit...very good thinkers...
i definately think God has a spritual apposable thumb

Donna::Its not a case of How he created Man Its WHY He created Man??And i9f man knows the reason apparantly some dont know yet WHY.
---Emcee on 4/23/07

Ryan, since it was God who created man, why don't you ask him instead of asking man? He will answer you, I'm not being sarcastic here. Ask Father, "Father, HOW did you create man in your image?" What difference does it make as long as we got here safe and sound, smile.
---Donna9759 on 4/23/07

reply to ryan, upon request.greetings .in reference to form ,jesus stated that our Father has shape and form.agreed?little is it known but spirits are not clouds of gaseous particles.we are unable to see spirit or angel unless they permit us to ,not us to permit them to.spirit and angel both have forms and shapes unknown to us .many times man has been given a glimpse of them and our imagination has done the rest.yes, satan is spirit and has else can one recognize another?

Rom 8:20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
According to this scripture, all creation was made subject to vanity, "including Adam". And if we notice, God didn't even ask our permission to make us this way, much less to be born in the first place.
I'll ask a question. Before Adam had sinned, if he had climbed up a tree and fell out of the tree and broke his neck, would he have died??
---Billy on 8/21/06

The verses you mentioned speak of the unregenerate fallen spirit of man. Before the fall it was not that way.
2Cor 3:18 refers to the supernatural change in the spirit of man that takes place when they become Christians. Read the whole chapter. And note verse 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Quick NOTE: I'm not sure if someone started another blog based on this one, or if they were independently formed, but here's another one very similar to this one: Does God Have A Body, so read those comments as well if you're not familiar with it.

(4).. I believe that the scripture was suppose to read that God is making man in His Image.. This would go hand in hand with other scripture.
2Cor 3:18] But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, ARE CHANGED into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
I believe that if Adams spirit was in the image of God, he wouldn't have sinned.
---Billy on 8/21/06

(3).. 1Cor 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

1Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
---Billy on 8/21/06

(2).. Our spirit IS NOT made in the image of God, doesn't the scriptures teach that there is a spirit of man that is contrary to His spirit!! There is a spirit of man and a spirit of God. Our spirit can't understand the things of God!!
---Billy on 8/21/06

Ecclesiastes 3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, THEY HAVE ALL ONE BREATH; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
In Genesis what was it that was breathed into Adam? It was the breath of LIFE. All creatures have this same breath in them.
So this breath can't be Mans spirit, but was Adams spirit made in the Image of God?

earl, you say "all spirit is of God." What about demons and Satan. Aren't they also spirit? They have no physical form. Although I may be mistaken and if I am correction with scripture would be apprediated.
---Ryan on 8/21/06

spiritually, all spirit is of God.therefore mostly we are unable to make distinction between an angel and and the spirit of truth leading us,but ,cosmologically there are differences, don't you agree?most all religions have grouped all spirit as God most God is absent from the mind until man appeals to God.jesus taught his apostles that" the true light lighteth every man that comes into the world".the indwelling is the image of God

Genesis 2:7
7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
---willow on 8/12/06

do you truly believe that the physical attributes you have are have any meaning to God? NO.GOD is spirit and your spirit is made in his image.your spirit has the capacity to love, to forgive,to obey, your flesh is corrupt, sinful,in conflict with God.Jesus came to set you free, not your flesh but your spirit.

Gods word says he breathed the breath of life into adam and he became a living soul. When adam becanme a living spirit the part that was made in Gods image was his spirit .the living flesh was not in Gods image . it was a physical shell. Now while adam obeyed God and walked with him everything was great. When he fell the flesh went into conflict with God, and his word, aka since christ the spirit and flesh can be as adam was with god before the fall. But ONLY YOUR SPIRIT IS IN GODS IMAGE.

"Did you know God can smell, he has an ear, mouth, nose, hands, and feet? I believe God made us to look like him."

Just because God describes himself or the way we interact with him in anthropomorphic terms, does not mean that he has a physical form. Jesus gave us the definitive answer to this. "God is a spirit." John 4:24
---Bruce5656 on 7/15/06

our bodies are just the earthen vessel, the clay pot, that the image of God resides in while we live here on earth.the only part of us thats in Gods image is our spirit
---tom2 on 7/15/06

ryan, God is spirit there is nothing about our flesh that is in his image. He ain,t flesh. now the word became flesh and dwelt among us, but that wasn,t his nature. He assumed flesh for us.The only thing that we represent in Gods image is our spirit.

ryan, abosolutely but remember that God is spirit unable to sin ,totally holy. We on the other hand were created with a flesh shell which we know know can and does sin ,thats the difference.when we die and are in christ we are then spirit and I guarantee you we won,t sin anymore in heaven cause we will be spirit, and not flesh. Thats the image ,now we are spirit shrouded by sinful flesh.Still in Gods image because of the spirit within us.
---tom2 on 7/14/06

Did you know God can smell, he has an ear, mouth, nose, hands, and feet? I believe God made us to look like him.
---shira on 7/13/06

tom2..we must look to the original creation. God originally created man perfectly in body, Spirit and soul. The flesh you refer to is a result of the fallen man.
---Ryan on 7/13/06

we are made in Gods image. let see God is spirit, not flesh so we wear a shroud around our spirit that covers our unseen spirit that dwells within us all.Our spirit is made in the image of God. has nothing to do with the flesh.THE flesh sins and God don,t sin he is a holy spirit.

If we looked like chickens, Jesus would have looked like a chicken. We are not patterned after Him physically because he does not have a physical form (John 4:24) except as He would assume one to interact with us. Philippians 2:7, "But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:"
---Bruce5656 on 7/12/06

Ryan, my sincere apologies. I honestly thought you were going to come up with this theological answer that no one would understand. I didn't realize it was the body, soul and spirit answer, the simplistic answer. Sorry about that, I repent to you in sackcloth and ashes.
P.S. I still don't think some Christian folks realize God meant "die spirituallly."
---Donna9759 on 7/12/06

An interesting question that runs parallel to this question is; when Jesus Christ took on a body the shape of that body was in the image of man. Does this mean that our body shape and form is the same as the God's?
---mima on 7/12/06

God is spirit, you are the only animal on the planet with a spirit.that part of you is in the image of God.the spirit has the ability to have the nature of God. But AS I said the flesh messes things up with it,s craving for sin.

Rickey...Phenominal answer!! That is it. and When God said, "You will truly die." He meant the Spiritual connection, the part of God that dwelled in us. When man partook of the forbidden fruit man died in the Spirit. Tom... excellent definition. I am so pleased to find people that understand .
---Ryan on 7/11/06

Donna, this is extremly important it makes a huge difference. If one does not understand what it means to be created in God's image than one also does not understand what He meant when He said, "For the day you eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is the day you will truly die." If we don't understand that than we don't understand why God had to send His Son.
---Ryan on 7/11/06

Gods image.when God made man he breathed the breath of life into him and man became a LIVING SOUL.within your being is a spirit,it has the nature of God but unlike God it is limited by the have the capacity because of being in his image to reflect his nature. But his is perfect, your is shrouded and affected by sinning flesh.God is totally holy, you are made holy through have the attributes or nature of GOD but he is holy and perfect you aren,t.
---tom2 on 7/11/06

The Godhead is three in one and we are three in one. Godhead consists of the Father, the Word, and the Spirit. You are a spirit, have a soul, dwell in a body.(IThessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12)

I personally think it means being created new in the image of God with the fruits of the Spirit. It may refer to the first people so I won't say anything against that. I do believe that it's mainly salvation of a spiritual recreation with those who reject the Lord and recrucify Christ being cast out of the garden in a mystery.
