Church Is A Boring Place

What would you or should you do if you become too comfortable in the church meaning everything seems to be the same, you sing the same songs, the preaching seems to be the same, it has fallen into routine and you don't feel you should leave but nothing ever happens?

Moderator - Prayer and fasting and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It may be time to move on.

frances: "The Church is the poor, the oppressed, the drunks, the homeless, the imprisoned, the sinners, the sick, the abused, the drug addicts, the innocent babies."

On the contrary, the church IS the Christians, period.
---Steveng on 1/29/08

The Church is the poor, the oppressed, the drunks, the homeless, the imprisoned, the sinners, the sick, the abused, the drug addicts, the innocent babies. That is who God wants to pick up and save. They do not have chapels, churches or cathedrals. They are spiritual beings in need of witnesses for Christ, blankets, food, visits, money and in need of love.

dan: "I would propose that church is not for the members. It is a place for members to bring unbelievers to to meet God. If it is for members it is a social club."

Church is NOT a place, it is NOT a building, it is NOT an organization.

The church is THE people.
---Steveng on 1/27/08

What is church- the definition? Is it the building christians go to, or the establishment? WE are the church, the body of Christ. If we say we "go" to church, we're misusing the term God gave us. Maybe people get bored in church because the pastors are too afraid to speak or do anything that might offend the congregation. And maybe we're not suppose to be even meeting in the building. Just a thought.

Join this, join that. Hogwash, I say.

What Christians need is to form a small group of seven to 12 people and grow in Christ. It provides a true relationship between the people and between the person and God. It's the only way to mature in Christ. There will come a time where Christians will be horrorably persecuted, even in America. A home church is the only way to keep God in the heart.
---Steveng on 1/27/08

Sounds familiar to me....I had it happen. It means you are in man made religion and traditions many times, and not in true relationship with Jesus. It's not about religion...its about relationship!

DOUBTis created in ones mind by the Deciever. It is an attack by Him on your Belief,to turn you away from God.He is playiny on your Choice.St Paul speaks "Hold Fast to your Traditions Beliefs."If the love for your God turns mundane ,then its time to renew with Vigour Your belief & trust in Him.Peter said "where shall I go Lord You are the bread of eternal Life"

Maybe God is calling you to do something in your church. If you are met with obstruction then you know to move on. Shake the dust off your feet. I did that.
---frances on 1/25/08

Do what I did. Start or join a bible study group in your church that seeks NEW truth. Read new books like "THE SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH" by Neufeld and Sterling and see if this is true or not. Let members know what you are doing. Tell them you are tired of 'sipping on milk' and need some meat to chew on. Start by studying the testimony of Jesus given to us by His eyewitnesses only (John 14:26)

I'm not an expert either. No one's expected to listen to me, but I hope someone will. God is your final answer to everything. He can help with anything you need. If you feel that church is becoming routine, pray about it. Ask God, say,"I want more of you in my life. I need you and I want to grow in you." Just tell him what your problem is no matter what it may be. He's sure to answer if you believe he will. Just have faith, I suppose.

put your faith into action.
Pray more everyday...Read the Bible more...join Bible study...put more attention on God in your life. Put Him first in all you do. If God is not first in your life...you can not expect much from Him.

Johannes: "You are there because God put you there for a reason so study and Pray to find out why!"

Unfortunately, 97% of the Christians today don't or cannot listen to God and choose a church of their own choosing, not God's.

Being bored or being offended can only happen if one chooses to be that way. You are there because God put you there for a reason so study and Pray to find out why!

Try learning about and planting home churches as the apostles did in the beginning. They are more growth oriented personally than many, if not all, organized churches.

Is this somewhere you want to be? Is you mind on worldly things when you are in church? Has your spiritual life moved in a direction that is away from God? Has the leadership of your church changed or is it not contending for the faith that it was founded on?
---brent8575 on 1/22/08

First off you need to be in a Spirit led revival Chruch. if you have to move and take a lower paying job, its your eternal soul thats importaint. if you are the problem and not the church be faithful. the Bible is full of wilderness experances. Moses, Elijah, Jacob even Jesus had high points and time alone in a dry wasteland. dont worship how you feel worship hard because Hes God. contribute to the services, maybe you can bring about change.

Start praying for change and watch God move in your church. God does answer prayer. Prayer is the key that unlocks the door to what we need in our lives. Jumping from church to church is tiring, boring. Some churches are just more anointed than others. They follow the leading of the Holy Ghost more closely, so God moves in a mighty way because of their obedience to Him.Is your pastor a born again, holy-ghost filled preacher? Your church is sick and needs Doctor Jesus to step in. Pray for revival.

Think of Church as a Gas(Spirit)Station, You go & get a fill-up & you stop & help stranded(lost)people along the way...
Don't set around in park idoling, It's a waste of Gas!Church(the building) is for PRAYER & FELLOWSHIP & LEARNING!
If it's a Boring Church, the word of God isn't being taught properly, Because the Word of God is Anything But Boring.

It seems to me that God would move you on. That is what He did to me. I use to love comfort. Now I am uncomfortable if I am comfortable. But truly the person of the Holy Spirit should flood all over you as you walk into the door. Ha, ha into the door.
---catherine on 1/22/08

I have a lot to say about this subject, so it may take me a few posts to get it all out. First of all we must understand the definition of the word Church. Church is not a building where people go(Acts 17:24), to sing and listen to some guy in a pulpit and follow the same routine week after week. Church is a spiritual body, made up of believers filled with the Holy Spirit.
---Ryan on 1/22/08

The Church is supposed to be your anchor not your weekly entertainment. This should not be your only contact with God.

I am constantly reading the Bible and the Early Church Fathers (for context) and exploring the writings of others. The Church is where I get grounded. It is a place of constancy to bring me back to my roots when I get too excited about my own discoveries. I frequenlty find that the Church knew it all along and I am just catching up.

Those who are bored in Church are bored because they put nothing into their worship, yet expect to get much out of it.

The Lord restored an interactive Church, where the congregation and the teacher/shepherd learn together. The professional and the moderator here CANNOT help the true seeker. They have an agenda, to support the wickedness of the trinitarian excesses and the false creation of a spirit only god, without parts or passions.
---Robert on 4/1/07

Actually, I would love it. One Sunday a few years back, God spoked to me right in church. I had my legs out straight, sitting so comfortably. He said, "Don't you get too comfortable here." Next thing I knew I was out of there. And YES, God moved me out.
---catherine on 4/1/07

It sounds like it is time to move on to another. If they preach the same over and over again, and your not being being feed the right way, ask God to show you where He would want you to go.nothing like dead church to chase you away.mary4964
---mary4964 on 3/31/07

If you feel there is a routine going on and it is time for a change, then it starts with you. Be the first to make the change, sing a different song, etc. That is the problem with alot of people they become too comfortable, and they lose their joy. I agree with the moderator if you try and change this and no one is willing to work with you, go somewhere else. One thing about my church is the Pastor makes sure we don't go into a routine, we all do our part in making church fun, good clean Godly fun.

Rebecca, I do not agree with you. Doing so disrupts the orderliness of worship and does challenge the authority that God's appoints over us. Remember that a *local* church is not a place for exercising your freedom of speech; it is a place for honoring and worshipping God. We should aim to please God rather than carry out our own independent whims.
---Benny on 8/4/06

Donna; even the Pastor of the church needs to sit down and let another preacher in and preach, maybe he can learn a thing or two. He shouldn't be the only one preaching all the time. If a word from God comes to you and you need to speak out on what God is saying, then do it. So what if he gets mad, he'll go over it. You are not taking your authority over him, you don't need a mircophone, just stand up and say what is in your heart. change is good. it isn't good when someone is set in their ways.
---Rebecca_D on 7/14/06

Jack, as Joyce Meyer and Dr. Fuchia Pickette once said: when they are teaching, they are not exercising authority over a man. They are not Pastors. And the men who sit and listen to their teachings do it voluntarily. Don't take that scripture out of context. God has anointed women teachers of the word, but not as Pastors, that part I agree with you 100%...no women Pastors. Did I say I wanted to be the Pastor of that church OR did I say I felt like grabbing the mike? Big difference, huh?
---Donna9759 on 7/14/06

Donna--According to St. Paul, women are NOT to presume to teach in church or take authority over men.

Post # 2- but I love him to pieces, but I want to grab that microphone from him and pour out a message of inspiration and encouragement, but he would NEVER let me do that. He always wants to have the pulpit
---Donna9759 on 7/13/06

Post 1 - I believe what is happening in spirit-filled churches today is they are "camped" in one spot. What I mean by that is, they aren't moving forward in the Spirit of God. They are CAMPED OUT...STAGNANT, why? Because they sing songs, someone has a word from the Lord, and it's usually the same person, then a watered down sermon takes place. What do you do? I say speak to the Pastor and ask him to have different leaders/speakers leading the service. My Pastor is very old and very monotone,
---Donna9759 on 7/13/06

Fast and pray and follow the leading of the Spirit of God. If it is to stay, stay. If it is to move on, move on. When you stop growing you may have hit limits they find satifactory but still doesn't feed you. That's between you and the Lord though hon. May God bless you.
---Shari on 7/13/06

A boring church service may be experienced when:
1)Worshippers are not fully present (their minds are occupied with other things.)
2)The speaker has not prayed about his/her message to discover what God wants.
3)Worshippers are refusing to obey the Holy Spirit by not testifying or making prayer requests laid on their hearts.
Think on these things. As my pastor often says, "This is your service!" What can you do to fully participate? Being active is never boring!

A perfect church service could be achieved through every person there obeying the Holy Spirit. I have been in a few rare services where each testimony and each song led so perfectly up to the sermon that it could only have been engineered by the Lord. In those services, a wonderful thing is taking place - a personal message is being delivered directly from God to His servants who are making it all possible through obedience. (to be continued)
---melissa on 7/12/06

Ryan; you said alot that made sense but never addressed the question. this church (the people) are in a routine, what should this person (the one who posted the question) do?
---Rebecca_D on 7/12/06

?--It may say more about you and your attitude than it says about the church you are attending.

EVERY congregation has its repertoire of favorite hymns, EVERY congregation has a pattern of worship of some kind, and someone once said that every preacher actually has only ONE sermon.
---Jack on 7/12/06

If the Church wishes to receive the power of the Holy Spirit than they must turn away from the law and the 10 commandments we must leave the path of righteousness and look to the power of righteousness in God's Holy Spirit. Replace the 10 commandments with the Be-attitudes learn to grow in God's love and His Spirit. Only when these things happen can we manifest fruit and be called God's children.

What we have in the church today is an atrocity. We have men elevating themselves above others, we have people bowing, praying and worshiping the cross (Idol worship), we have an ecclesia that asserts authority over followers and we have a watered down gospel being taught from the pulpits.
