Christianity And Science Together

Do I have to conclude that Christianity and Science don't mix and that Christians don't need Science?

Moderator - Christianity and true science work together fine. You just need to talk to people that are educated in both subjects.

Christianity and true science work together fine. ('True' Christiaity meaning that hich agrees with ones estalished presuppositions.) I see no conflict between scienc and the Bible. I take the Bible seriously, not literally. literalism 'box's one in'-thus requiring cognatie dissonance in place of faith. I have soe education in the hard science's, and do study the Bible, I see no conflict, not having to deny objective reality to maintain a personal faith.

Depends on your definition of science. Modern science has been hijacked by people who believe everything is the result of natural processes/causes. The Bible teaches about supernatural causes, especially when dealing with origins. These two views are not compatible, no matter how much some people try to make them. It is like mixing oil and water - it only lasts as long as you are vigorously shaking it.

There has been many times things that are written in the OT has actually been proven true. Moses crossing the sea to escape from Pharoah. Giant Skeletons being found. Even to the finding of Jericho. The information is out there, Google search helps.

Benny is 100% correct

1 Tim 6:20 - "science" here in its original Greek rendering is "gnosis" meaning "knowledge". The knowledge here is believed to refer to Gnosticism, a perversion of Christian doctrine that says only a select group of people receive "secret knowledge" needed for salvation. But I'll grant that it is very unusual for "gnosis" to have been translated to "science" in this single instance. Someone more knowledgeable should correct/expand-on my comment.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of SCIENCE falsely so called:

Ansel Adams is my favorite photographic artist. What people ignore is the foundation of western science is a presupposition of the creator. This is codified in the concept of 'natural law.' which begs the question, where does that law of the universe come from? Be is Darwin or the (awful) Charles Darwin the presupposition was that of natural law.

To me science is like scenic photography, with skillful practitioners both capture a snapshot of God's wonderful creation. If you have ever seen Ansel Adams' work or understood Maxwell's Laws of Electromagnetism then you know what I mean. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)

science,?need science? a direct effect from the creative, intuioative mind caused by being spiritual created in the image of God.God made us to ponder,to question,to discern.he gave us a mind that might understand many things that effect our lives. But AT THE SAME TIME WE USE OUR MINDS AND SCIENCE TO TRY TO PROVE A UNSEEN REALITY. many things are unseen. You can,t see gravity, many gases, the wind, but they can be great, but it can be foolish also.

What do we need science for?

Helen, that is really, really funny. Should have been on the humor blog.

Helen, so you can be here on the web......
---MikeM on 7/16/06

Helen .. You would not be able to communicate with us here had it not been for science. You would have no electricity for your freezer, or cooking. but for science, you would probably be dead.

What do we need science for? Well, actually nothing, if you want to live in a cave, carry your water from the nearest stream, eat whatever is available (including bugs, lizards, grubs) and die of an "ordinary" infection.
