The word "vicar" means one who serves or acts in place of someone as a representative, and is derived from the word "vicarius."

The Catholic Church is not unique in calling Peter the "vicar of Christ" this title has also been used by Nestorians who believe in a Petrine Primacy similar to that of the Catholic Church.

Those who repent before God of their sins against God will be forgiven. There is people who make a mockery of the death of Christ on the Cross. Who call themselves godly, who pretend to be a children of God who seem to think they went through much worse then Christ on the Cross. Those people to me blasphemy against God. They are self-righteous, self-proclaim false prophets.

The title "Vicar of Christ" came into use in the fifth and sixth centuries. The Christian Church prior to Constantine reserved the titles, "Vicar of Christ" and "Vicar of the Lord" exclusively for the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent to His Apostles to complete their training (John 16:12-15).

Dearest Mima: Thanks for the excommunication! I guess I am now free to communicate directly with God without going through some man! Praise the Lord! Free at last!
---jerry6593 on 5/13/08

youR outrageous statement questioning the authority of the pope and the fact that he is the "Vicar of Christ" here on earth is unforgivable. And excommunication is your sentence.
---Mima on 5/12/08

Jesus was accused of blasphemy on two occasions, for forgiving sins, and, as a man, claiming to be God. Of course, He is God, so He wasn't blaspheming. But what of the pope?

Blasphemy toward God is to not receive His Word. If someone who at first blasphemed (would not receive) God's Word but later repented of their sins & accept Christ (the Word of God made flesh) as their Lord & savior, this person would be forgiven & saved. It is through repentance that we are forgiven and through the blood of Christ that we are saved.

Blasphemy is speaking against the Holy Spirit and bearing false witness of Him.
Blasphemies, being a false witness for Christ can mean saying all of the right things about Christianity....but when you're not around Christians speaking out of a heart of evil that has no problem with speaking blasphemies.
---princess8975 on 5/9/08

Blasphemy, speaking out of both sides of the mouth. Speaking evil, vile words that only the world uses out of one side, and with the other side speaking precise, eloquent words that a Christian would speak. God knows who blasphemes.

30 He that is NOT with me is against me, and he that gathereth NOT with me scattereth abroad.

31 Wherefore I say unto you, ALL MANNER of SIN and BLASPHEMY shall be FORGIVEN unto MEN: BUT the blasphemy AGAINST the Holy Ghost shall NOT be FORGIVEN unto MEN.

32 And whosoever speaketh a WORD against the SON of MAN, it SHALL BE forgiven HIM: BUT whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it SHALL NOT be forgiven HIM, neither IN this world, neither IN the world to come.
---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 5/9/08

When those people said Jesus cast out devils by the spirit of Satan
(Mark 3:22), what was behind their saying that? One thing I think of >

they were against *forgiveness* (Mark 2:1-12, Luke 7:36-50, see Mark 11:25-26).

One way I'd say to make sure we don't blaspheme the Holy Spirit, then, is to make sure our forgiving is up-to-date . . . that the Spirit we are in has desire for ALL to become forgiven, like Jesus desired on the cross
(1 John 2:2).

A word or act insulting to God, contempt directly or indirectly to his Church saints or sacred persons or things is called Blasphemy. A saint is one Known to be in Heaven, having lived a life of Heroic Virtue or Martyrdom, one while on earth exemplified in a special manner one who kept Christs Moral laws and counsels.A saint needs cannonisation.

Many so called spirit filled evangelists arein in for the money. They get rich and do fake miracles and steal from the poor and the desperate. 20/20 showed how Benny Hinn is a liar and a thief stealing money that was supposed to help orphans. The so called healings were fake. Yet people still follow him and his lies.
---samuel on 5/9/08

Today, many blaspheme the saints from God, and the Spirit-filled evangelists whom are genuinely doing the commanded works of Christ. Knowing the supernatural deeds are from God, then saying in front of others that the good miracles are unholy or from Satan is unforgiveable.

It is to speak evil of or to God, or evil of or to sacred persons or sacred things. I am commonly dissed or blasphemed by the unregenerate. "Therefore I say to you, all manner of sin and desecrating words will be forgiven to men, but the spirit of desecration will not be forgiven. And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks a word against the Holy Ghost, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, neither in that to be."Matthew 12:31,32

It is having a spirit of desecration, which mockingly ascribes the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan. It is calling good evil, the truth a lie, and the Holy unholy. When God's Spirit genuinely works through a person (as He did through Jesus' miracles), and another person (like the Jewish Ministers and Teachers) disses it or disgraces it, that is blasphemy.

All other sins, even murder, can be forgiven, but there is no forgivenness of sin without the blood of Jesus being applied to our hearts. Christ is the door we must pass through to be saved and reach heaven, any other way results in hell. When someone accepts Christ as Savior, there is no blasphemy.

"The Holy Spirit's work on earth, is to convict men of sin. If he rejects this conviction and does not seek salvation or rejects Christ and His saving grace, he has then blasphemed the Holy Ghost. The worst sin and the only one that will send you to hell is the rejction of Christ as Savior.

Is Christ sitting somewhere upstairs? Do people get their own personal Holy Ghost or there is just one and the same Holy Ghost for all?

Matthew 25:"44: Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45: Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46: And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."
---Nana on 8/16/07

#1 Think on it. The Holy Spirit's work on earth, at least in part, is to convict men of sin. If he rejects this conviction and does not seek salvation or rejects Christ and His saving grace, he has then blasphemed the Holy Ghost. The worst sin and the only one that will send you to hell is the rejction of Christ as Savior.
---Debbie on 8/16/07

In my humble opinion, the only (option for an)unforgiveable sin is to leave this world loving the evil and hating the good. The requisite condition for this state of affairs is when one believes that the good is evil and the evil is good. Consider the context in which Jesus mentions the blasphemy of the H.S.-he is accused of casting out demons by an evil power. The H.S. leads one into knowledge of good and evil...if one believes the good is evil, what then?
---chad6498 on 11/16/06

I stand in agreement with Debbie. I would also add not allowing Him to speak through you or speaking in direct opposition to Him when you are delivered up to the Antichrist will be judged unforgivable.

Blasphemy....Can also mean giving someone else credit for what only the Holy Spirit's office can do..intercede for the Saints. Romans 8. Those who pray to any other, as their intercessor, are also practicing blasphemy!!!! No other gods before Him.

Blaspemy of the Holy Ghost Was only possible while Jesus was alive here on the earth. Blaspemy was when Jesus was accused of doing what he did through the devil, instead of the Holy Spirit.

Mary.#3. When this hardening of the heat reaches a certain fullness of development, determined only by God, the Spirit will no longer strive to lead that person to repentance. (Gen 6:3;Deu 29:18-21 1 sam 2:25, Pr 29:1).

For those who are worried about having committed the unpardonable sin, the very fact of wanting to be forgiven and willingness to repent of sin is evidence that one had not committed the unpardonable sin.
---Ramon on 8/3/06

Mary.#2. The process leading to blaspemy agaisnst the Spirit is a follows:1)Greving the Spirit(Eph 4:30),if ongoing, leads to resisting the Spirit(Acts 7:51);2)Resisting the Spirit leads to putting out the Spirit fire (1 Thes 5:19);3)Putting out the Spirit fire leads hardening of the Heart (Heb 3:8-13);4)Hardening the heart leads to a depraved mind and to a labeling of good as evil and evil as good (Is 5:20;Rom 1:28).

Mary.Matthew 12:31. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit involves atributing the ministry and miraculous kingdom power of the Holy Spirit (such as authority to drive out demons and power to heal the sick, cf vv 22-23,28) to satan rather than to God.

It invoves a deliberate rejection of the Holy Spirit's witness to Christ and the Gospel. Note that in this context, it was not "sinners"(9:10-11) who were committing this sin, but rather the "spiritual" leader of Lsrael (vv 24,34).
---Ramon on 8/3/06

Scripture teaches that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. If someone has truly blasphemed the Holy Spirit then they cannot be saved, nor would they want to if they have gone that far. (This first part is only what I think ok and I would like feedback on this). Blasphemy against God the Father and Jesus Christ is different --- those sins are forgiveable.
