Best Way To Witness

I have never witnessed before and have no idea how to approach people and just blurt it out. I want to teach love not judgement, but sometimes the truth hurts. What is the best way to reach people?

God does not always call us into witnessing. I just found this out not too long ago. Sometimes, He only wants you to learn and get to know people. I suppose that it is suppose to help in your ministries.
---catherine on 3/27/08

I just saw two people witnessing for two days(six hours a day) leads 72 to the Lord Jesus Christ. This was done by approaching people in a public plaza or park. And plainly and straightforwardly asking them the question, are you sure of your salvation. Did they get turned down? yes about 10% of the time.

My Grandmother was a great role model for me in Christian Faith. She just led by example and didn't take any flack from someone speaking badly about Christ. People of all walks would respect her, regardless if they believed her or not. There was no ego about her faith. She didn't offer any unsolicited advice on someone having faith or not. I'm glad God gave her to me. I wish I could have told her that before she died.
Unfortunately, I'm still working on my temper that I got from her too. ,D

(cont'd) Anyways, I was refrencing her beucase she just DID what was necessary. There was no pomp, she just did the things necessary to make the world run with the Holy Spirit. Make sense? Someone was hungry? Care Packages! Someone was Sick? Stop by with Homemade Soup. Someone was elderly, lonely? Take a visit. Let God's Love be Shown by the Love you Show to others. That was what she tought me. Let your enthusiasm show when you talk about Jesus. Lemme know how you do! Good luck!

Think back on how you yourself came to be a Christian. Did someone blurt Jesus out to you, or was it different then that? Sharing Jesus with other souls is a precious thing, and whenever you actually get to pray together with them, it is beyond words. When talking, think of it like introducing your best friend to them so that all three of you can be friends. There are many openers to start on the subject, like: "Do you believe in God? Do you pray? Do you go to church? etc.

To each his own. Whatever God has called you into. Make sure. The best way to witness is by the power of God, then you have power. Please do not be as the pharisees. Too many preachers are telling people to go out and be a witness for Jesus. These preachers are trying to be like Jesus and they are not even saved. What about God? I am quoting scripture when I say to you. "You must wait for the power of God to come upon you and then you can be my witness". I believe Jesus said that.

Sally, the best way to wittness is to kep your focus on the Spirit. By focusing on the Spirit you BECOME Salt & Light and produce good fruit. This state of BEING will shatter darkness whenever you come in contact with it. Stay fed in the word feed your spirit with the truth of God. Do not go out and look when the times come they will be spontaneous and if you have been feeding your spirit with truth the Spirit will direct you.
---Ryan on 3/26/08

As a follower of Christ, God has equipped you for every good work. Tell him you are available to be used by him as he sees fit. He'll show you what to do and what to say when the time is right. Just be willing to obey. He'll do the rest.
---Katie on 7/22/07

If you have surrendered your life to Christ already, start praying that God should use you to reach out to others.
You will be groomed(through other persons)and led into witnessing by His Spirit(in group or not), because witnessing is not something a one can do by oneself alone.

#3: After they've read the scriptures aloud and given their interpretations (if their interpretations are incorrect or they don't understand, ask them to read it again and again), ask if they are a sinner, do they want forgiveness, do they believe Jesus died for them and rose again, are they willing to surrender their lives to Christ and are they willing to invite Him into their lives and hearts. I have used the steps in Mr. Fays book with success. If you can get a copy, it's an easy helpful read.
---AlwaysOn on 9/7/06

#2: Next, Share the following scriptures by asking them to read them out loud and ask them "What does this say to you" after each one:

Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, John 3:3, John 14:6, Romans 10:9-11, 2 Corinthians 5:15, Revelation 3:20. (you may want to mark these off in your bible ahead of time). (continued...)

Being kind & respectful is the best way to draw people in. Once they are open to talking to you, ask the person (conversationally) if they have any spiritual beliefs, who they believe Jesus to be, if they think there's a heaven or a hell, if they died that day where do they think they'd go (and if they say "Heaven" ask them why) and if what they currently believe isn't true, would they want to know? These strategies are from Share Jesus Without Fear by William Fay. (continued...)

Wasn't aware "she" was derogatory. Just trying to post and be efficient.

I guess there is no point in arguing with you. To state that you know fully the ways of god (and all his "mysterious ways") is simply misguided thinking, and I'll pray for you.

Catholics (and other types of christians) may or may not make it to heaven, and that is god's will. I trust in HIM to make those choices...I dare not say I am capable of making them as a simple human being.
---frank_cos on 8/8/06

Frank Cos - My name is Helen not "she".. that is very rude. Thank you. All who believe that Jesus and Jesus only saves will go to heaven. That means that Jesus came into this world, took on human flesh and gave Himself as the Sacrifice for sin on the Cross then rose from the dead. All those who believe there is any other way to heaven will not go there. You can know what God's will is by reading and knowing His Word The Bible. I would say the same things to any other cult also.
---Helen_5378 on 8/8/06

MP - she said it in another string.

Helen - Do you believe all Christians go to heaven? Only god decides. He decides who goes, christian or not. If you don't believe this, then you must know more than god (and that would be something!). Catholics are not going to hell carte blanc - how can you be so judgemental of others. It's not your call, you don't know gods will! He'll pick whomever he wants in his kingdom!

Sally--Mima gave good advice. But don't discount how you live your life or peoples interest in your testimony. Especially on the job, people will notice integrity, honesty, self-sacrifice, PEACE in your life. You're not JUST a nice person. If they comment, you may briefly explain Jesus in your life. (practice how to say it and pray for an opportunity). In ordinary conversation you may be able to share your testimony. At the workplace a direct approach my be inappropriate.I've had results this way.

[cont] It is true there are some who refuse the Gospel no matter what because the Gospel is an offense to them. Then there are others who don't even get a chance to hear because sensitivity-challenged Christians have turned them away with a harsh and grating attitude. We are called to be Ambassadors for Christ; I don't think tactlessness is a desirable characteristic of an ambassador.
---Benny on 8/6/06

Paul became all things to all men by all means so that he may win a few to Christ. He did not say: "My way or the highway". There's a right way and a wrong way to speak the truth.

---emg: Have you ever heard of the defining question. Understanding what a defining question is and how to use it will set the stage for your witness. Recently three men begin to use this defining question method. In the last seven weeks they have seen over 70 people except the Lord Jesus Christ between them. Many of the people they led to Christ they had already witnessed too many times before, but the defining question allowed them to lead the people to Christ.
---mima on 8/6/06

Two all those reading about this question: please consider carefully reading all of Helen post concerning witnessing. I she is believe right.

People know I'm a Christian by my actions, words. I've become a different person with Christ. People at work who knew the other me and see the changes ... that's witnessing. I've even been called down when I did something not so Christian. I apologized and thanked the person for stopping me. People learn by watching others, listening.
---Nellah on 8/6/06

Frank Cos you say to Helen "There you go again, accusing christians (yes, RCC are christians) of doing something evil (joining with the muslims). Seems like there is so much hate in your heart towards Catholics. Odd...." Is there something missing from my computer screen? Where does Helen mention Catholics or Muslims in her posting of the 4th Aug.?
---M.P. on 8/6/06

Mima, "The Person you are witnessing to is not interested in your lifestyle or your own personal testimony. No they are interested in 'how can I be saved?'". Most people that I know, including relatives, believe that they have nothing that they need saving from.
---emg on 8/6/06

6/... Are we as Christians to stand by and let millions of souls go to hell because we supposedly loved them? Or are we, as the doors start to shut, going to cry out to them with the truth before it is too late for them. A man gave his life yelling out to drowning people as the Titanic went down to trust Jesus. He was already saved and knew where he was going, but desperately wanted those others to go with him. He went to a watery grave while preaching the truth. Are we willing to do the same?

5/... I have stood and watched as a RCC "priest" literally preached a lost soul into hell. All this man could say was about the supposed good works of the dying man and touched his hands. Well all the good those hands ever did was hit his wife and pick up glasses of beer at the pub. The man was not saved, yet he had been led to believe that he would go to heaven, or at somewhere -- maybe "Purgatory" which doesn't exist because God didn't make it. Is the picture clearer?
---Helen_5378 on 8/6/06

4/... If you think I am coming on strong, then take a look at what Jesus Himself said to the unbelievers when He was down here --- hard to handle and He pulled no punches with them either. People will get offended no matter how the Gospel is presented to them, those that do not want to believe that is. But that is not to be our concern. We are to tell them the truth before it is too late. The doors are closing soon.
---Helen_5378 on 8/6/06

3/... Yes we have to love everybody, but a love that is not prepared to tell lost souls the outright truth of where they are headed is not love at all. It is some fancied up concoction of what the real Gospel is. Paul was never afraid to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified, so neither should we.... it should be our whole focus. We are accountable to the Lord for what we do say and what we do not say. (.../4)
---Helen_5378 on 8/6/06

2/... As born-again Christians we have the truth of God's Word and we are supposed to live by it and use it to correct error. How would you feel Frank if you didn't know you were headed to hell, and in all sincerety you believed you were going to heaven, only to find on Judgment Day Jesus saying to you "Depart from me, I never knew you", and there were Christians who could have saved you from hell. Don't you think you would be forever left wondering 'why didn't they tell me'?

Frank Cos - What makes me angry about the RCC is the enormous power it has to keep on perpetrating their lies and taking millions and millions of the so-called "faithful" lost souls to hell with them. That is what makes me mad. And if you are going to sit around with your "teach love" attitude and not say a word to them I would just hate to think what Jesus might say to you on Judgment Day. Maybe something like "why did you love them into hell?"
---Helen_5378 on 8/6/06

Frank Cos - I do not care who it had been who joined forces with the Muslims -- it is grossly wrong. By the way I did state that the Jews joined forces with them also. Look at what the Muslims are doing to people. How could you even think to entertain the thought that there is nothing wrong with it. I am called to tell you the truth -- if you want your ears tickled then you will have to look elsewhere. We as Christians are to hate sin.
---Helen_5378 on 8/5/06

Frank Cos - A Christian is a follower of Christ. A Christian believes that his/her salvation is totally by faith in Jesus' finished work on the Cross as payment for their sins.

Helen -

Part#2 So Sally you must tell them how they can be saved. As far as greeting, I ask the following question." May I ask you a question"? I have never been told no. You explain to them how they can be saved and asked them do they want to be saved? And followed that up with an opportunity for them to pray for their salvation can be saved. If you want to discuss this more I am mima 3783 at penpals. In the beginning your greatest success will be with those younger and poorer than yourself.
---mima on 8/5/06

Part#1 Sally; many people believe their lifestyle(how they live their lives in front of others) will lead others to Christ. Wrong! Many people believe that your own personal testimony will lead others to Christ. Wrong! People that practice these methods should be asked, where are your results. The way to wind others to Christ is very very simple. The Person you are witnessing to is not interested in your lifestyle or your own personal testimony. No they are interested in "how can I be saved".
---mima on 8/5/06

In addition to the sound words of Ryan and Katie, it also helps if you have not done so already to have rehearsed and committed to memory a simple outline for your Gospel presentation e.g. 4 Spiritual Laws. You should also do the same for your personal testimony of salvation. It pays to be prepared because you never know when the Lord will call upon you to witness. But most importantly, witness with your own Christ-filled life, to colleagues, family and friends.

I believe that the best way to witness is to pray "Lord, speak through me". The Lord is the only one Who knows exactly what needs to be said. By letting Him speak through you, you are also casting your cares on Him. Jesus saves, not us. The problem is that we naturally think that if we say the right things then that person will get saved. No, it has to be all the Lord.
