Raise their sense of 'Self Worth'

Teen PIT Falls

The bible is the best place to begin. Teach young people what fornication is and how it offends God. Teach them the sacredness of sex in the bible and parallel for them the ways in which disease, out of wedlock births and other social ills relating to premarital sex weaken our society when we use it outside of the purpose for which God intended it.

Joe ... Yes God gave us the means and the will, and the instinct to procreate.
But He also gave us, through His rule-book, a sense of responsibility, and that includes abstinence until we are in such a relationship with someone, that procreation becomes right.
And that's marriage.

It is 'natural' for a man to want many women.(the natural man) As a teen I saw the negative results of teens and adults sexually active. What was worse was in the church it appeared most adults, while preaching sexual morality were absolute Hypocrites, that did not help. The stories i could tell! Abstinence education must be backed up with example, or its worthless.

Just a note: Teens are exposed to sexual material very young. Make sure you know the facts, too. Many kids think that practicing oral sex is "abstinence". Many don't realize that STD's are passed by this route too.

The only time that a person should "abstain" from sex is when they are not married.

Oh please! give me a break!!!
Abstinence is unnatural? Perhaps for a dog!
It may be difficult, but not impossible, and well worth the effort.
Yes, God made us to procreate, but it's His will that procreation takes place within the boundaries of marriage.

Joe::Nothing is imposssible there is a time & place for every thing including Procreation given the laws of God.otherwise you relegate yourself to the degree of being called an ANIMAL which is A DOG.
---Emcee on 8/10/06

Joe: God made male and female to marry and have children and both ideally pick up the tab. However Dogs are dogs and go with any other dog they happen to stumble upon in general, so to act like one means abstinance is not something understood in the dog world. I guess people act like animals also but one thing is certain, there is no welfare or child benfits for animals, human beings pick up both tabs, either in taxes or they pay out their own pockets for the up keep of the animals. which would you prefer

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. If you teach them the things of the Lord, that God is a Holy God and if they sin, they will grieve the Holy Spirit and will be out of His will, they won't sin because they will love the Lord thy GOd with all of their heart, soul and mind.

It's impossible, like trying to teach dogs to fly.
Abstinence is unnatural.
God made us to procreate!

There is a book called the Love KIller, by Josh McDowel (SP?) it's an amazing book about why we should practice abstinence. It's fiction but with discussion questions at the end of each chapter. It also includes some very scary facts about std's and how condoms are not as safe as kids are told they are in school.

If you teach your children self worth from a baby to teens and respect for young ladies and themselves, through the word, they will not depart from that advice, you have to teach them to be careful of peer pressure, and not try to be popular, but to Hold fast to godly principles, the excuse of going to church help them not to get involved, and upon till today, don't know about tomorrow I can say God has been Faithful.

I taught my boy's abstinence, and showed them through talk shows and lifes experiences that girls are to be respected, not used. I taught them that to provide for a wife they needed a proffessional qualification, job, car. It was hard until the horror stories started to come in, My sister however taught her son that it was fine ti have a girlfriend and trusted his lies, she is now a Grandmother he is a absent father at 16.

You can teach by communicating. A LOT. Talk to your kids all the time, even when it seems like they arn't listening, because they are. From the time they're real little talk to them about what is right and what is wrong. Make it simple, not long boring lectures. Most important: Ask them how they feel about things. Listen to them.
