Was everytime Abraham tithe, was it recorded in the bible? I don't think so. Just my observation though. |

According to Genesis, after the rescue of his nephew Lot (whom he once called his brother), he gave a tithe of the booty taken to the Royal Priest Melchizedek. Of course, since tithing had not been commanded, and there was no cultic center to whom he could have paid his tithes, what could he possibly have done otherwise? |

You can find it in Gen 14:20. Abraham gave tithes of all. Heb 7:2. |

Rebecca. Very interesting comment you made about Abraham tithing of everything he owned. Could you explain how you come to that belief?I can't find any indication that he did this more than once. Thanks. |

Yes, it seems he did and we are not told how often. Also, there is not a shred of Scriptural evidence that God had instructed Abraham to tithe. Although tithing was pre law it was not required until it became law. It's purpose was for the Levitical priesthood, which along with the law, according to Hebrews 7:11-12 was changed. Those who still practice tithing according to the law should go back to Deut.14 for some very wonderful instructions pertaining to it. |

No, Alan, tithing was first mentioned in Genesis (Gen 14:20 also Hebrews 7:6). Jacob also promised a tenth of all the Lord gave him in Genesis 28:22. The first mention of it under the Mosaic law is in Leviticus 27:30-32. It predates the Levite tribe. |

Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek. Everything that Abraham owned he gave tithe on it. |

Was not the tithe introduced as a way of paying the Levites? In Abraham's time, there were no Levites. |

The only record I could find in the OT concerning the tithe of Abraham is in Genesis 14:18-20. At that time the idea of tithing was not a working concept. If Abraham did tithe again, there is no record of it. |
