Catherine ... Would the Bible tell you which vegetables to buy for your next meal?
Does the Bible mean you don't have to look up the plane schedules before you decide whioch airline to use?

I believe without a doubt that the Bible covers everything. In any case, when in doubt ask God. He always has the answer right away.

In the Old Testament, virtually all of the patriarchs were polygamous. God never spoke against it (except to Solomon - and the issue there was NOT polygamy, but rather that his many wives swayed him to idolatry). In fact, in some cases, polygamy was mandatory (in the case of a man who died childless, his kinsman was REQUIRED to marry the widow, and no exception was made if he was already married).

Whether we think this is a good thing or not doesn't change that.

In Biblical times, women were property of their fathers until marriage, and their husbands after. This is why "men married", and women were "given in marriage". Vestiges of this remain to this day.

A woman didn't marry whom she wanted - she married whomever her father told her to marry. She had little choice in the matter. (Of course, loving parents would look to their children's wishes, but that was a matter of their choice, not custom or law).

The Bible gives general guidelines to many important issues, but for speific problems, we can just apply the guidelines - we have to work out the specifics ourselves.

As Darlene_1 pointed out, "What would Jesus do?" is a good starting point, but it's not sufficient. If you are agonizing over whether to buy a Ford or a Chrysler, for eample, there is no clear-cut reason why he would favor one over the other. In such cases, we have to make up our own minds.

I did, because life down here is the problem, and I think the Bible answers that one well if you know Jesus.
---Pharisee on 4/9/08

pharisee, actually you are right on,but in my opinion thers NOTHING to say accept I ACCEPT THIS WORD, and then live the life thru jesus that the words says to do in the way it says to do it,and be the ambassodors that jesus wants us to be.

The bible does have all the answers but we just don't want to listen.
---shira_9639 on 9/12/06

The Bible gives us the mind of God. His way and will for humankind. It also shows us how Christ related to God and obeyed His will. So the question "what would Jesus do" is an excellent way to find your own answers, for you can go to the Bible for that answer and thereby find your own.

Jesus gives solutions to problems, and what is impossible with man is possible with God.

What you find from the Bible is a certain perspective, one where God is revealed in truth to where trusting is easy.
We see God in His Glory through the work of creation and sovreignty over Israel.
We see The Lord Jesus in subjection to the Father.
We see the Holy Spirit sent by Jesus to the apostles, and althroughout Angels in sevice to man; If the word of God is true, there's less left to say than do.

Yes, you can find the answer to all and every problem in the Bible, although some disagree with this. If the problem is not clearly outlined, the answer to everything is the Cross of Christ and Jesus' sacrificial death there.

No! Not all problems by any means, but you can find useful information related to Christian living and ethics.

Use a topical index such as Naves Topical Bible.

Yes, every single one of them!!

Not directly, Sue. Just to test, I looked in it for how to fix my washing machine, and it was no help.
But it does say "The labourer is worthy of his hire" and so I realised I needed to pay an expert in washing machine servicing

Within logical reason, yes. Obviously you can't get too technical (ie. should I make chicken or beef for dinner tonight?), but there is a lesson to be learned in every situation, and a word of wisdom to be gained in every question. Some will be answered straight forward, others will be more vague, but I think the Bible can instruct us in everything, as long as we are teachable.
