New Inventions For Mankind

With our auto industry in trouble, I believe we are on the verge of finding new forms of energy. Crisis alway brings on new inventions. What do you think they will be?

I agree to a point--we really do need to come up with alternate energy sources and take advantage of them when we can. Only problem I have is using something like corn for fuel when so much of the world is going hungry as it already and I believe the Bible says it will get even worse. Not to be depressing--it's just biblical. But yeah, I'd rather see food go into hungry peoples' bellies than a car.

Spike, I've heard of vegetable oil being used as fuel for diesel engines. Fry a chicken and fill up your tank using the same Seriously, It makes sense that, if this is true, a system will be developed for all cars to run on on this (or some similar) alternative fuel.

They'll probably builid on what's already existing, but has not been fully developed or widely received yet, such as a different type of fuel or electric cars with longer lasting batteries. This is an uneducated guess though.

Rachel: No, all alternative fuels are more expensive than gasoline. Hydrogen is produced by hydrolysis of water using electricity. It takes much more energy to produce it than is realized from it. Since it is a gas, it must be compressed to thousands of psi pressure to get enough for a reasonable distance. Such high pressure vessels are much too dangerous for John Q. Public to refill and handle. Heaven help you in a wreck. It's flame is invisible, so you could walk right into one and never see it.

In 1972 GM had an "engine" that ran on freon. It was sealed only requiring a minor heat source (solar). Estimated useable time for the average driver, 7 years. It was hidden. A company was formed producing magnetic inductance energy in the '80s (Dennis Weaver on the board), Owner disappeared, all info with him. An atomic powered eng would use appx a thimble of energy in a lifetime (just add water). Gee, I bet it's all about the money...

Jerry ... Do you know when jesus will come?
Are you sure the oilfields will last till He comes?
We have been using oil for how many years? Will it last 1000 more years?
Actually, I hope it does run out, and fast. We might then get rid of some of the pollution.
But maybe we should be thankful for the polution, for it will hasten the end of the world? And we all want that.

Jerry, how far can you go on a tank of hydrogen? Would it be less expensive than gasoline? I figured you couldn't light up a cigarette at pump. Fireworks for sure.
---Rachel on 9/16/06

There is no fuel crisis. There is plenty of gasoline on earth to last until Jesus comes. The crisis is caused by government intervention in the form of excessive taxes and prohibition of expand exploration fields. The automaker's problems are related more to labor unions' excessive demands than to fuels. Alternative fuels are not economical (without government subsidy), and some (like compressed hydrogen) are extremely dangerous.

I like the idea of the new hydrogen technology, too. I suppose we would have to recycle all of our current engines, cars. Big expense. Hope we don't see piles of cars along the countryside. And then there's the smoking issue, can't imagine that would be too safe. One less blog to fuss about.

I'm glad someone thinks about this stuff.

Maybe they will reinvent the horse and buggy.

I think the best form of energy system will use ambient temperature superconduction and magnetics.

I think our country will be set free from dependency on foreign oil. At the eleventh hour, it will come. If 10% of this nation is Christian, God will move His hand for that 10%. Nation is being squeezed.

I can't say for sure but I don't think it will do much good to find new forms unless they are clean. We have abused the planet long enough with the fuels we are burning now. I'm hoping the new energy will be solar. At least we have lots of it and with the proper technology it can be clean too.
---john on 9/15/06

Probably it will require a variety of new technologies. Few fuels are as convenient as gasoline, but likely, I believe, the easiest transition would be to ethanol which our cars can be modified right now to run on and which countries like Brazil already use as much if not more than gas. I also really like the idea of hydrogen fuel which does almost no harm to the environment and when used at full potential could be up to 9 times as effecient as our current combustion engines.
