Christians Like Violence

If Christians are suppose to seek that which is good, why do Christians produce horror movies, write horror books and develop violent video games? And why are Christians attracted to such material?

I do not know of any Christians who do such things. But as for entertainment, we Christians do not bury our heads in the sand and pretend that evil does not exist, and we enjoy seeing the good win over the evil, as ultimately it always and at all times does.

I'm not aware of Christians producing horror movies and violent video games.

I enjoy murder mysteries because I like to try and predict the ending. But I will walk out of a movie if there is too much blood and gore.
I like programs about medical examiners because I myself have attended autopsies the purpose of which is to determine cause of death. (It's like solving a mystery). I don't consider it "horrible". But some of these TV programs are so unrealistic they are a waste of time.

If you get some kind of "thrill" out of such things, it's not edifying. You'd be better off using your time in some other way.

I learned to be honest with myself as well as with God. He knows our inner workings better than we do. We will never be perfect in this world and we should stop trying to be. The grace of God is our equalizer. And one day we shall be changed, in a moment, in the twinking of an eye.
But in the mean time ,I am going to continue to learn more about God, and pleasing HIM everyday. Becoming a better Christian not a perfect Christian(in this world) and enjoy the journey!

I do not know about horror movies, books and games but come christians do watch this stuff. I watch wrestling matches on tv and they are violent. My father was a minister and he loved wrestling, also. Some people feel if they do not commit the violent acts they are ok. I guess. Don't really know. But we are going to commit some type sins in our daily walk with the Lord. Sin is sin. No little sins and big sins.
Watching a violent movie is much a sin as adultery. Stealing is a sin as is lying. One is no larger or worse than the other.

A born again christian is not going to produce horror movies and write horror books and video games. I didn't know christians was attracted to violent materials. The christians I know certainly don't mess with such foolishness.

Not everyone is at the same level in their Christian walk. If we are "true" Christians, we should be working towards looking more like Christ, but that doesn't mean we are all there. We still sin and struggle with temptation. Maybe these people who like the violent movies/video games don't know it's wrong. They could be new Christians and they are just starting their journey to look more like Christ. If so, they need a mentor to help them along and we should be gracious with them.

There is a great lesson to learn from this question, if you treat this question would self- examination.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Besides, do these books, movies, and video games bring peace to the soul and the mind? No. Today's "entertainment" brings horrifying fear to the mind, heart and soul. And each time you watch it, fear builds. This type of "entertainment" enslaves the Christian to fear. When you watch these movies, what stirs deep within you? Look at what it's doing to the secular world and to our children. If you must read a novel try "Anne of Green Gables."

Benny: Don't you think that the Holy Spirit has an answer to your question? You are comparing apples and oranges. The OT is the true history of the Jewish people and the NT is an eyewitness of Jesus and the forming of the church. The bible is inspired by God himself. The movies, the books, the video games are written and produced by one author's or producer's interpretative imaginations. The are the fables warned about during the end times.

steveng: I'm not sure what exactly you include or exclude when you say "horror" but that which is "good" in God's sight does not exclude the possibility of violence. Indeed, if you read the Old Testament, there was plenty of violence (mainly against God's enemies). I don't know about you, but I consider it a good thing because God's will was done. Would you then consider the Bible a horror book or any movie portraying violent parts of the Bible a horror movie?
---Benny on 9/17/06

Besides the KJ Bible, everything you read, everything you watch has a little Biblical truth. Would you follow a prophet that was only right half the time? Would you follow the Bible if half was truth? The books and the movies have little truths in them to make you believe that it contians Biblical truth. Satan works like that, to twist the truth. Today's Christian beleve that because the Left Behind books have a little Biblical truth that the books are all thruth.

Steveng, you've asked a good question.
When I was an organist, the choir director sang a solo that everybody loved. It was nothing but a long list of people who were going to go to hell. The implication was that nobody listening to it fell into any of those categories--sort of a "God, I thank thee that I am not as other men..."
Too many people seem to get a vicarious thrill out of end-of-the-world cliffhangers. Otherwise, this tripe wouldn't be selling, would it?
---Jack on 9/17/06

Steveng -- For generations, preachers of Christianity described vividly the tortures of hell, in hopes that fear would cause people to turn to Christ for salvation. It's not a very effective approach these days, but I think the "Left Behind" series (and games) in part, had the same motive. And the authors understood that all people (not just Christians)are curious about the future and attracted by stories of violence and danger.

I once meet a women at a nearby McDonalds. After some small talk, she told me what she believed about the endtimes. I asked her where she got her information. She said from the Left Behind books not the Bible. Christians write such books as The Left Behind novels and other such books. Christians produce very graphic horror pictures and video games depicting the endtimes. For it is written that they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

They are not real Christians, but they are only assuming the name Christian.
---Eloy on 9/16/06

At the "risk" of seeming less than holy, most of us Christians still live in a carnal body. We pray to be pure and not sin yet, we are as Paul (Ro.Ch7)...19 "For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do." On earth we are not perfect, just forgiven in anticipation of His coming and to perfection.
---mikefl on 9/16/06

A true born-again Christian would not be producing such things or getting involved in them in any way. Many claim Christianity but are not Christians.
---Helen_5378 on 9/16/06

Not all Christians are.
I suggest it is because they are after all still human beings, and still have human desires and vices.

The Holy Spirit has none to do with any such thing.
As for Christians this is their testimony:
Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
