Should I Make A Musical CD

Some people at church want me to record a CD, but I am hesitant. I have been singing for 30 years and now, all of a sudden, the interest has peaked. I am honored, but have not heard from the Holy Spirit on this. What angers me is that some have mentioned the money that could be made. What do I do?

God gave you a talent. Use it anyway you can for the glory of God.I really don't think you need approval from the Holy Spirit since God already has blessed you with a wonderful voice. Please make your cd and God will bless you for it. Do it for the glory if God.

Making a CD isn't wrong. God said to use our gifts freely. But you should wait on the Holy Spirit first. Ask yourself this, Is this what Jesus want me to do? What would Jesus Do? Don't look for people, Look for Jesus. What do you want to do it for, the money or for Jesus? If I was you, I would look to Christ first to see what He really wants you to do.

There is nothing wrong with making money for your labors. Make the CD, use the money to give some of them away and get the Gospel message out in song. Support other ministries also.
What makes you think you have not heard from the Holy Spirit? God speaks through His servants and they have spoke to you.
My suggestion is to go ahead and make the CD unless God intervenes and stops you.
Two such CDs were given to me by one of the posters here that has given my family hours of comfort.

Making a cd can't hurt anything. Just give all the proceeds to the needy. Problem solved.

Cana, I couldn't resist replying to your post. If God gave you a voice, use it for His glory. Please, go ahead and record your cd but make sure it honors God and not man. Don't do it for $$$$$ even tho God may give you $$$. It cost a lot of money to record.

**I am honored, but have not heard from the Holy Spirit on this. What angers me is that some have mentioned the money that could be made. **

1. If you haven't heard from the Holy Spirit, then don't. If you don't feel this is God's will, then don't do it.

2. If you're able to recoup your expenses (studio musicians, recording fees, advertising, manufacturing costs, etc), count yourself VERY lucky.

While I don't think the others gave you bad advice, I would say if you are hesitant, then wait on the Lord. Ask him to give you clarity and wisdom from on high. He is faithful to answer. Here's another thought...if they are really that determined to make a CD, find out if they are willing to fund the making of it. If God told them to tell you, then they shouldn't have a problem helping it come to pass, right? :o)

Pray sincerely asking the Fathers directions concerning this. Be still, listen & trust him for His response, knowing it will give you peace and certainty.

cont'd. I wish I could sing along with some people who sang live in our church who are no longer here... Special songs not available commercially but in line with God's message to the church. Bless you in whatever you choose to do. Please don't be offended over the money issue. God knows the intent of your heart and will honor your stewardship of any earnings made. Never forget those who need God's music but can't pay for it. Thank those openly who can and do pay to support your love offering.

Cana, look at this another way. What if you had a chance to have recordings from your loved ones reading scriptures to you. Or your minister teaching again those things you hold dear to your heart? From my soul I ask that you share your gift with those who love you and others who may seek God through your voice. I have no singing voice but God hears me often. (cont'd)

I believe that God speaks to us through His people, and that you should prayerfully consider making a CD. Your motivation should not be to profit financially, but to spread the gospel and bless others. Any money you make, after expenses, you could give back to your church, or designate for a particular ministry.
---Madison1101 on 9/21/06

Cana, When God gave you a singing voice, you should take that as a cue that He wants you to use what He gave you. You don't need to hear from Him again.
---shira_9639 on 9/21/06

Well let me tell you first hand. If you use soundtracks to sing with, you can't use their music (Ex, Cooks, McKameys) unless you get their permission in written. I made a CD with others words but had the music made. I didn't do it for the money, I done it because so many people asked if I had any CD's they could buy. If your really not sure, seek God, and don't do anything until you hear from him.

Cana, do you remember when God said to Moses, "Why are you standing there? GO FORTH." Sometimes we just have to move forward and if God blesses it, that's your confirmation it was from God. The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord, so if people are telling you to record a CD, that very well could be the Lord speaking through them. Don't be like the prophet Baalam when God had to speak through the, just kidding with you. Go forth and do it.

However, if the idea is that you use your own money to do all these things which would be a lot then don't expect to see any return on it for a long time, until after you have sold possibly thousands of copies. It is less costly if you write your own songs because you dont pay to use someone elses work and, you get the royalties if the songs get airplay or if someone else also chooses to record/perform them. Best wishes.
---M.P. on 9/21/06

Yes money could be made; that is not the same as saying that it would be made, especially short term. If the church is suggesting putting up the money to hire the recording studio, pay for musicians (or the backing tracks you would need instead) and all the royalty fees (if you would be using somebody elses copyright work), then this could be a marvellous opportunity for you.

Sometimes others are sent to give you a message, just in case God was speaking to you and you didn't recognize it. But the most important thing to do before any decision is to pray. Alone in a place that is quiet with No distractions when it is the LORD and you. Pray and ask for guidance and then just BE QUIET, and WAIT. For some of us that is the hardest part.

Cana - Hi. Don't you think that if making a CD was from the Lord that He would already have told you about it? If money is the main motive for them wanting you to do it, then get out and go find another church. We are to be personally lead by the Holy Spirit, not by people.
---Helen_5378 on 9/21/06

Cana ... who would make the money? Any earning would be yours, and you could gift them whereaver you wanted. Why not say all proceeds will go to some far flung mission or charity, and see what the church officials say then?
