Its too bad you're not home more MikeM. I've spent a lot of time in Loma Linda and the San Bernardino area, its so lovely there. Its the only place in CA that I'd care to live. Too bad you're away from your family so much. We seem to run in the same circles...welcome to Oregon! I like it here very much, and miss Las Vegas little.
---NV_Barbara on 10/15/06

Thank you brother Mike. for the info. I have passed through San Bernadino, on my way to Texas many years ago. I thought it might be close to Yosimite National Forest and I might have past it on my way there. Oh Madison, glad that you are doing much better. Take care

Sorry Jack, I have been too busy to reply. You copied: Whatever became of the buildings at Heritage USA, on the state line of the two Carolinas?
---Jack (Vote) on 9/29/06 I am wondering what that has to do with anything? That is like saying there are two(2) churches in my city of the same denomination. SO?
---Dottie on 10/13/06

Yucaipa is east of Redlands, which is 15 miles east of San Bernadino. I sit below 11,000 Foot San Gorgonio Mountain.
---MikeM on 10/11/06

Now that you answered, Yucaipa is east of Redlands, can you now point out where is Redlands? have never heard of it. Maybe I don't go out much but it must be there since you said it was. Is it close to Sacramento?
---lisa on 10/11/06

Whose fault is it if I don't recognize a country/state/province that's mentioned? Mine, of course! It's not like I can't find out.

Mike, Quebec sounds almost like Texas. Almost. But here it's Spanish. So what language besides English am I most fluent in? What language did I study for years in school? French, naturellment! Guess I should make it a point to visit Quebec (which I hear is beautiful).
P.S. In case y'all don't know, Texas is in the U.S.A

Donna2277 You missed a treat not visiting Quebec, It is totally French, they have "language police" (just like Orwellian) where if you put up a sign in English, larger than it's French counterpart, you can be fined and/or jailed!
---1st_cliff on 10/10/06

Youre right Mike, there are no antelopes in the Antelope valley.. There are no Palm trees in Palmdale either!

Lots of Joshua Trees, cacti, scrub oaks..
It has changed a lot since I left in 73. It has a population of 7,500, now its what?? 500,000....
---NurseRobert on 10/7/06

Yucaipa is east of Redlands. I went to Cal State San Bernadino, a 'conservative' college, at least by California standerds. I am away from home two weeks a month at various worksites. I am writing on a notebook computer in eastern Oregon at this moment, desolate, stark, yet beautiful. Open country is humbling. I work hard but make so little, everyone says, 'welcome to the club.'
---MikeM on 10/7/06

Palmdale. The Antslope Valley, and no antalopes. Sadly in 1983 my in prison nephew was part of a racist religious group (aryan Nations) that killed a man in Palmdale, behind a donut shop.-division-

My aunt went to Lancaster High, class of 1982.
Other places I have lived in Ca, Inglweood,-gangs. Clearlake,-hot but nice, Bishop,- real nice, Riverside-smog. Yucaipa,- family town.

Dory, that was a great answer. Oh by the way, I live in California and don't know where "Yucaipa" is at. How terrible that someone from so far knows and I don't. But the part you gave about the dogs is great, I have a Siberian Husky myself and think about the cold countries when I see her eyes. She sure doesn't bark, but makes a lot of sounds like talking. She will howel in a language that is almost recogizable as human. I say speak and she won't stop.

---Emcee on 10/6/06

Dory,
Sorry, we don't mean to be 'ethnocentric,' but hey, in all fairness, Americans have 50 states to remember; Canadians have what, 10 provinces? ;o) I can name half... Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. I know- youre not impressed, and I don't blame you. lol
Anyway, here in AZ, I see lots of autos with license plates from Saskatchewan. What a fun word, "Saskatchewan," Eh?!
---Tbabe on 10/6/06

I was born and raised in the USA. I can not only name the provinces of Canada, but have visited them all except Quebec. I expect most Canadians are well enough educated to recognize most states in the U.S. (but probably not abbreviations such as CA, MI, CO etc. I don't know them all!).
I was born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, but retired a few years ago to Texas. I've visited countries on every Continent (except Antarctica) and found great people everywhere.

Nurse: ****Americans can be pretty ethnocentric****

That was my point about why I commented on the Americans just naming their states and not the country. It is as if the world revolves around the US. Well, it doesn't. It revolves around the sun and the Son.
---Madison1101 on 10/5/06

Mike ::No kidding we dont need freezers We hang our meat on a tree & you can cut a hunk off & cook a lovely steak any time you want but as Dory Lory says its all true! you have to teach your children not to eat yellow snow, & the sun in summer does shine at midnight all in all. Its called Gods country,& the land of magical monments bTW if you come to canada in your Limo Bring Parts & of course Gas lots of it The road ends HERE.
---Emcee on 10/5/06

Dory, it is truly sad that most Americans cannot name the providences of Canada. Americans can be pretty ethnocentric.

I did find out where Yucaipa is (maps and atlas' are wonderful things!). Its not far from where I grew up in Palmdale.
---NurseRobert on 10/5/06

NurseRobert - You're right. Canadians do have a fair knowledge of the where the different states are located and I even know where Yucaipa, California, is. I've been there.

When I was homeschooling my kids, I noticed that the Social Studies curriculum published in the U.S. seemed centered around the U.S. Children here, in Canada, study about the world and all the different countries in their Social Studies programs.
---DoryLory on 10/5/06

MikeM - Yes, Canadians all live in igloo's and we dodge hockey pucks on our way to work. Also, don't forget that we don't have vehicles up here. We all drive dog sled teams. On a Saturday afternoon at the local WalMart, you can hardly hear yourself think out in the parking lot for all the barking and yelping going on! (LOL!!) And yes, WalMart is constructed of huge ice blocks! Isn't that right, Emcee? ;)
---DoryLory on 10/5/06

Crystal,
Yeah, I know what your saying about the traffic and the cost of living, but it's the summer heat here that's the killer for me, and I'm just so happy that it's cooling down I can hardly think of any thing else. :o)
Another thing I like about living here is the colorful evening sky; it's quite a beautiful sight; after 20+ years here I'm still in awe.
God Bless.

I am from Texas,USA. The only State in USA that was once an indiviual country. It also is the only State that reserved the right to pull out and become a country again if they please.
