Protesting The Amish Deaths
I just learned that a Baptist Church had planned to protest the funerals of the five dead little Amish girls this week. Why are so-called Christians so hateful? I understand evil is in the world, but to do evil in the name of God is just horrible.

there is a thin line between Cult and fundementalism. they have gotten off the truth and started putting debatable items into the fundimentals of faith. it's not orthodox because othodox only includes the fundementals: Triune God, salvation through Jesus only, grace over works, church to encourage people to christ. the rest is preference and should not be set as being the fundementals. I don't beleive we should judge but enocurage people to christ.

Fred Phelps is possessed by demons. When he speaks his eyes are just evil. He has no love for GOD, because we are all God's children. God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten son, so whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. If Fred Phelps believed this, he would not be spewing all kinds of blasphemous things out of his mouth. He is definately possessed by demon spirits.

Protesting at any funeral is heartless and cruel. Jesus had compation at funerals he didn't protest them. I don't care if you think our country Sucks or if the Amish are a false religion. The family Lost a loved one and we should respect them and mourn with them. Not persicute them. (that Fundimental Baptist Church is nothing more than Americanized Al Quida terrorist)

**He [Phelps] uses 4 letter words, describes very graphically in church what men who love men do to one another. **
Whimpering, drooling, dribbling, and moaning in forbidden pleasure and rubbing himself all over the while, I'll bet you.

I won't say what I really think about that church. It seems to me the hatred they spout is from their father the Devil. If I were them I would be careful about the things they say. It is not for them to judge who goes to hell saying "Thou Fool". Forgive them Father they know not what they do.

Whether Amish, Baptist, Pentecostal etc. we are all Christians, get in touch with jesus because the end is coming and when it does you better be ready!

I too looked at the site. It is disgusting.
I would like to point out, that I am sure I am not the only one that takes it "personal" when Herb tells me I am demon possessed.
Alan, I appreciate the spirit with which you write here. God bless.

Bruce ... I have never experience speaking in tongues, and am confused by all the theological discussion about it. There are a lot of such issues that give rise to stroong statements, and I have been chastised enough on here for trying to broker peace and courtesy between people with opposing views.
But the Westborough comment amounted to a personal and vicious attack on Herb, and I have seen the Westborough website.

Looks like this is a case of a Baptist church giving the Baptists a bad name. Westboro Baptist does believe in five point calvinism, like many baptist churches. However they don't show much love of Jesus.
---sam on 10/9/06|
I am not defending likening Herb to those people, but I wonder why you do not speak up as strongly for us pentecostals when Herb claims we are demon possessed because we speak in tongues.

It does not matter if they have something to say about the Governor, the funeral of these little girls is not the place to do it. Not only is it insensitive but it is cruel to put these grieving families through more then they already have to endure. Thank God, the Governor contacted that group and convinced them to do it at a different time. He felt it was inappropriate, so in some ways he is more sensitive then they are.

Sam ... Herb is a very strong baptist, and I don't agree with some of his beliefs, but at least they are decent and honest and spring from Christian principles.
Just visit the Westborough site, and you will see they are nothing like any of the various standard Baptist groups. Just look at the hatred!
You owe Herb a massive apology for likening him to them

Helen: PA Governor Rendell said some negative stuff about Phelps and WBC on Fox News channel in the past year.
---Madison1101 on 10/7/06|
Ask Rev Herb..he is always promoting the Baptists.
---sam on 10/7/06|
Helen: I think the botton line is: Their just Wing Nuts! Trouble makers, you name it. Giving Christianity a bad name. It's these kinds of Christians who have gotten so embedded into politics in the wrong way.
---kathr4453 on 10/7/06|
In reading their press release, it seems that it is not that they were protesting the funeral, they were going to protest at the funeral to take advantage of a high profile event to get their message across. In this case the message was to be a warning to Governor Rendell for his "blasphemous sins against WBC". The signs were to have Psm 105:14-15 and Heb 10:30-31 on them.

Google his name. Read all you can stomach. He's protesting because he says the Gov. of Penn. committed sins against his church. He's praying for worse punishment for Penn. His platform is "You had it coming." He uses 4 letter words, describes very graphically in church what men who love men do to one another. He says God Hates America, God Hates ...., God will punish....; Vile. He's a religion unto himself, eyes burn with hatred, like looking into the pit of hell. I saw him face to face.

Does anybody here know why they are protesting the funeral?
---Helen_5378 on 10/7/06|
I am so very, very glad that Phelps group is so soundly condemned by the people here. It is refreshng. That is exactly like the group I was raised around in So. Cal as a teen. Its when some whacks like Phelps are considered mainstream that I will worry.
---MikeM on 10/7/06|
Is this a singular church/church leader or an entire denomination?
I seriously doubt all Baptists are protesting the funeral.
---Pharisee on 10/7/06|
I've listened to Fred Phelps, face to face. He came to my town. He is cultic and obscene. As with any cultic leader, he casts a mesmorizing spell over a crowd. Churches came together and prayed before he showed up. The doctrine of demons he preached was largely ignored. Radical self-imposed, defiled religion.

Thankfully I AM ignorant of this group. They sound lost to me!
---Crystal on 10/6/06|
This 'church' is made up of mostly family members of Fred Phelps, hate mongers of the worst kind. They have also picketed veteran's funerals complete with devilish signs held high. The only way they agreed NOT to protest the children's funerals was due to Mike Gallagher who offered them a free hour on his radio show. They spewed their hate as callers of all walks of life called in to disagree with them. I don't listen to Gallagher, but I thank him for doing something to spare these families any more pain.

These are the kind people (their not christians) that give True Christianity a bad name. The lost who hate Christianity love to take these instances and put us all in the same category. I hear comments like that all the time.
---kathr4453 on 10/6/06|
And to think that they most likely believe they are being persecuted for righteousness sake. That is the cave most hide in when blinded by their own error.
---Linda6563 on 10/5/06|
The answer given, by Linda, seems correct to me.
---mima on 10/5/06|
This is the infamous Westboro Baptist Church. They actually said that 5 little girls were shot to death because God was angry at the governor of Pennsylvania because of what he did to WBC to keep them from protesting funerals.
WBC is to Chrisianity as a used cat box is to the room it's in--except that would be to cast slurs on used cat boxes.

**There has to be more to this story than meets the eye. What am I missing here?**
You are doubtless ignorant of that cultish hate group known as Westboro Baptist Church--and what a blessing if you are (I mean that sincerely.)
If you really want to know, read about them on Wikipedia.
There is also an unauthorized, well-researched biography of Fred Phelps called ADDICTED TO HATE.
---Jack on 10/5/06|
The latest news indicates that the church has called off the protests. Wisely so if I may add.
---pkay on 10/4/06|
Fill me in. Why are they protesting? Why do they think it's any of their business?...oh nevermind, I know that one.
Back to the first question, why would they protest? I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the info!
---kathr4453 on 10/4/06|
Unfortunately, there are retarded Christians in the world. Retarded as in their growth was retarded and, beyond confessing Christ, they lack maturity and wisdom in Him. The Westboro Baptist Church members planning this protest are definitely in this category. Pray for them.
---AlwaysOn on 10/4/06|
This news really upset me. The fact the truly innocent children were slaughtered was awful enough.
But "Baptist" using funerals as an opportunity to protest is sickening.
Would Jesus approve this in his name?
---Walte7749 on 10/4/06|
Why would the Baptists "protest" the funerals of the Amish girls? There has to be more to this story than meets the eye. What am I missing here?

Being born again gets the believer out of the world. It is the renewing of the mind that gets the world out of the believer. Many become born again but never go on to the saving of the soul. Those are the ones who still fight the way the world does.
