Can you tell me how you came up with soul = mind, will and emotions? Thanks.
---Vicki on 5/9/09

Ulrika,if you are refering to what I wrote there is nothing New Age about it. It's Biology 101 and basic Christian values, following God and not our own desires. Some people seem to see everything they don't understand or believe as dark and sinister. Christ warned against corrupting the simplicity which is in Christ. Simple,as Emcee and I said, the Spirit directing impulses/behavior of the body.
---Darlene_1 on 5/1/08

Ulrika::What is psychobabble, would that be gibberish,?or in plain words do you 'not' believe we should endeavour to control our thoughts words and actions for the greater Glory of God so as to reach a stage of perfection which He demands of Us.?
---Emcee on 5/2/08

This is all new age psychobabble.

It's no different than speaking positive affirmations over yourself. Someone here is practicing or dabbling in the new age. I recognize it.
---Ulrika on 5/1/08

Yes Darlene Them's the ones I was talking about to use the spirit of God within you to control your actions. Not the spontaneous bodily reactions like stepping on a Tack or stubbing your toeor accidentally cutting your finger.
---Emcee on 5/1/08

The brain sends signals to the body. Built in responses take care of selfpreservation. Those responses and emotions happen in an instant without calling them or controling them. They are basic and innate in every person. Control comes through socialization, training by parents when young. When saved,we learn how to control emotions, actions, and to walk in the Spirit not the flesh. Selfpreservation emotions are still there but we take control on a cognitive level based on a decision to serve/please God.

*Unholy* emotions are dominating and wasting us. These are the "lusts" we are told to get rid of > "as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance," (1 Peter 1:14) In selfishness of sin, our personalities are conformed to the pleasures we prefer. Different people with different

*preferences for pleasure*

develop different personalities...using power, prestige, politics, and possession to get the pleasure they prefer (o:

THE seat of our *godly* and *holy* emotions is the throne where Jesus sits as Lord of all. The emotions of God coming through Jesus to rule us have God's purpose with perspective and pleasant patience of peace ruling in our hearts. And though these emotions of the Holy Spirit are for God's good pleasure, they are personally caring in us . . . not wasting and stressing and hurting and depressing and driving us (o: > "you will find rest for your souls," Jesus says in Matthew 11:29.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/1/08

The fruit of the Spirit gives us a description of God's love and the emotions of God's love. God's love is loving (of course), joyful (meaning sweetly beautiful and glorious and happy?), peaceful, self-controlled . . . . making us this way in real love. So, the fruit of the Spirit is simply qualities of an emotion of the
***Holy Spirit's*** love.

But Satanic emotions are confused, nasty, hurt, self-pitying, unforgiving, won't take no for an way to go. They are like *his* spirit.
---Bill_bila5659 on 4/30/08

Emotions can be passions of seeking something, or drives having you react to getting what you desire or not getting what you want. They are part of you who are spiritual, but moving your body and effecting it medically. And these emotions can come from Satan who is about seeking pleasure to feel good, and reacting nastily about not getting pleasure, power, possession, etc. But Jesus is "gentle and lowly in heart" (in Matthew 11:29). His emotions are gentle and humble.
---Bill_bila5659 on 4/30/08

The *root* of an emotion is in the spiritual being who intitiates the emotion. Emotions are what move you to seek what you desire, hence they have
*motives* which are personal, and therefore deeper than just physical in the body. But emotions can effect the body medically so that ones judging (by appearance only) think they come from the body and from chemicals which the spirit's emotions can effect (o:

Darlene1::Does your brain operate you, based on spontaneous reaction or is every action based on Control by your choice. Is this not the essence of what our lord teaches "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect"Just MHO.
---Emcee on 4/30/08

Emcee, good question. My thought, Emotions are for the most part spontataneous which means they come from natural feeling, native tendendcy, impluse, and I would say the working of glands, such as adrenal-fight/flight,in the body. Control is choosen constraint which is repression of one's feelings, behavior,or actions. The brain decides this, but the Spirit directs it. Emotions-innate,control-learned.

Without CONTROL of the Reins/Bridle of a horse, IT Will Go were IT wills to Go.
Just Like a Vessel, as Big as they are, They're steered by a little part(rudder) and W/O Control of IT, it IS tossed about W/No Direction.
Just as the TONGUE, IT is the smallest of members and IF its not Bridled(CONTROLLED)
you will be as an Unbridled Horse & A Vessel W/O a RUDDER.

Theirs some Scripture that tells this a little better then I may have.

I believe its in the soul, we deal with our emotions through our soul.

Joseph Darlene DDM:: How about "CONTROL" is that not considered to be an emotion? who therefore is the controller of your emotions.I suggest U, through the choice vested in U. Just MHO.

Soul and spirit. Man was created in God's image and has a spirit. He has a soul, which is essentially his sense of self, the center of which would be the mind. And he has a body, which holds it all together. Human beings are made up of body, soul, and spirit. God intended that the spirit of man be continuously in touch with the spirit of God. The spirit in turn, is suppose to radiate through the mind and the body to the outside world. The problem is, Oh, there is more to come>>
---catherine on 4/27/08

The problem that we are facing today>>>is that most people are directed instead by external stimuli that come to us through the bodily senses. So the body begins to be the controlling factor through gluttony, sex, pride, or whatever. Because the body controls the soul, the soul is able to conceive of schemes to make the body happy. And the end result is that the spirit of man is submerged by selfishness. Man will kill, lie, cheat, and hurt others in order to preserve his self-esteem, self-image.
---catherine on 4/27/08

Are you taking that from a New Age Bible or was that from the Course of Miracles?
It doesn't have any biblical or scriptural relevance, the seat of the emotions.
In fact, where in the canonized bible does it ever refer to the seat of the emotions?
I think you're mixing new age with scripture.
---Ulrika on 4/27/08

This is not an attempt to counter Darlene's post, she has rightly spoken. Although she has correctly defines the word reins, as "(kidneys, organs)" the implication within the context of the verse quoted, is kidneys as an essential organ of the body, as the mind is an essential to character. Figuratively it represents the inter most mind, as does the heart, as the central focus of that mind. Both can be identified with what we refer to as the "sub-conscious".

Reins Control the Tongue, The evilest of our Members, For out of it Comes many wicked things.
---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 4/26/08

According to the Bible the Heart & Reins(kidneys, organs) are the seat of emotions,so in body. Psalms 73:21 Thus was my heart grieved and I was pricked in my reins. Proverbs 23:16 yea,my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. Psalms 16:7- my reins also instruct(Strongs 03256,discipline,correct,admonish) me in the night seasons.

All human emotions stem from a thought. The human thought process is of the mind therefore, human emotions lies within our souls.

Donna9759, are you saying that God does not have emotion? God can be provoked to anger, He is jealous, wrathful and when Christ wept didn't that show an emotion of sorrow and mourning? I do not understand your reluctance to admit that emotions exist in all realms physical and spiritual.
---Ryan on 10/11/06

Donna9759 -- Those who take the time to read your post should clearly see the difference. All humans have emotions (that included Jesus). Christians also have "fruit" of the spirit..." love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control". (Ga 5:22-23) to a greater or lesser degree. We are to recognize Christians by their fruit (Mat 7:16)not their emotions, though generally the two should be in agreement.
---Donna2277 on 10/10/06

I think we need to do a bible study on emotions versus fruit of the Spirit. Since the fruit of the Spirit is produced by the Holy Spirit Himself, then it's safe to say, it's a FRUIT and NOT an emotion. Joy is a sustaining power, so is Peace, so is kindness, etc., These are not emotions. Emotions are temporary, fruit is eternal and comes from the Holy Spirit. Yes, Jesus wept, and that is an emotion, not a Fruit of the Spirit. A serious bible study is needed here so everyone isn't so confused.

Thank YOU!!! Alan8869, for COVERING my BLIND SPOT!!!! I did mean Sustain!!!Prov.18
[14] The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
---renat3893 on 10/8/06

Jack ... I think it is quite obvious that Renet meant "sustaining"
---Alan8869_of_UK on 10/8/06

Renet, what on earth does the word "Substaining" mean?
---Jack on 10/8/06

#1 bebet3754, the answer to your question begins with the creation of man. We were created in their image (Father, Son & Spirit) Man was formed from the dust of the ground and given a fleshly body, we were than filled with the Spirit and lastly we became a living soul.

#2 bebet3754, So we see that man is in the image of God in the three-fold nature. God is Father, Son & Spirit, man is body, spirit & soul. As one very astute blogger pointed out it was the Spiritual connection with God that died when Adam & Eve sinned, leaving man dead in the spirit. Our emotions are seated in one of two realms of influence - flesh or spirit. Who you choose decides what emotions you will have.
---Ryan on 10/7/06

Body- World Consious
Soul- Self- Consious- My Mind Remembers all the Hurts, Pain and Abuse etc
Spirit- GOD Consious Has to Overule all because it is the Spirit of the Man that Substains Him in all his Infirmities! When I am Weak I say I am Strong the Spirit of GOD, is Substaining ME!!!!!
---renat3893 on 10/7/06

#3 bebet3754, We are born only knowing flesh so for our formative years we only know the emotions of the flesh but, when we are born-again & the Spirit of God is re-kindeled in our being He matures us in the image of Christ making us Christlike in all realms of our existence. So the seat of emotions is the soul, those emotions are supplied by your master.
---Ryan on 10/7/06

Babet 3754,make it simple for yourself by throwing away your belief in ghosts. Are familar spirits obeying Satan. Person's soul doesn't remain on earth. Spirit of life goes back to God who gave it and the soul goes to the grave with the body. Eternal life was in the Tree of Life in the Garden now it's in heaven ,sinners can't eat and live forever. God takes back life at death,be nothing left to activate a ghost. Psalms 6:5 no rememberance in death, nor thanks to God in grave.

Does God show emotion? Jesus wept.

Before Jesus, God has no body, but yet the Old Testament records God as angry and also speaks of being pleasing to him.

Don't forget David was a man after God's own heart.
---Pharisee on 10/6/06

Science is finding more and more evidence that emotions are triggered by chemicals (or lack thereof) in the brain, particularly.
The "desires" of the "flesh" may be meant more literally than we realized!
---Donna2277 on 10/6/06

bebet3754 -- You are not the only one who finds this confusing. But the spirit and soul are not the same. Before you became a Christian, you were "spiritually" dead, but your soul was very much alive (it was your only guide in life). As a Christian, God brought life to, and speaks to, your spirit... but your soul, your emotions, may still resist what the Lord says. As you grow in the Lord, your soul gradually conforms itself more to God's ways as you "walk in the Spirit".
---Donna2277 on 10/6/06

I am having a difficulty now... I am wondering if this is due to language... "the soul leaves the physical body during death... in my catholic upbringing, the soul becomes the ghost if not received by heaven right away!". Now, I am wondering if the ghost has the emotions you are talking about!

I am having the difficulty between a ghost (the bad soul), the (good) soul and the spirit. In my culture the SOUL and the SPIRIT is one

Our emotions are in our soul. Our soul contains our mind, will, emotions, intellect, & reasoning.
---Rickey on 10/6/06

Jack, another question for you please? If Joy is an emotion, the are the other fruits of the Holy Spirit emotions? So peace, in your eyes, is an emotion, right? And long-suffering is an emotion in your eyes too, right? Then that means the Holy Spirit is full of emotions? Since it is HE that produces this emotional fruit in our lives? Am I following you correctly Jack?
---Donna9759 on 10/6/06

Jack, can you please give me the scripture reference that says JOY is an emotion?
The bible says, "The Joy of the Lord is your strength." Since Joy is a FRUIT of the Holy Spirit, isn't it produced by the Holy Spirit and not by our emotions? So where in scripture do you find that it says Joy is an emotion? Please quote exact scripture reference. Thank you.
---Donna9759 on 10/6/06

I have a difficult time agreeing that emotions are part of the flesh nature. Jesus had emotion. He rejoiced, grieved, and displayed anger. Emotions were made by God but many times are abused by us. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and also is the vehicle of my soul and spirit.

Interestingly enough the Bible, when compared to Greek origin, indicates the kidneys-reins,as the seat of emotions. Jermiah 20:12 this speaks of how God "seest the reins and the heart". Looking in Strongs Greek Leicon we find reins listed as the seat of emotion and affection. Ps 73:21 speaks of being pricked in reins and Proverbs 23:16 my reins shall rejoice. Revelations 2:23 I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts.

** Our emotions are part of our carnal nature, our fleshly nature.**

Joy, one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, is also an emotion.

Would you like to try again?
---Jack on 10/6/06

Our emotions are part of our carnal nature, our fleshly nature. They lie in our inner man, in the soul of a man/woman. The soul is made up of mind, will and emotions. They must be controlled by the Holy Spirit and we must yield to the Holy Spirit in order not to walk by our emotions, instead, we walk by the Spirit of God.
