Did I Curse God

I need to know if I have blasphmed against God. In my mind I cursed God. I did not mean to. The devil wouldn't get out of my mind and I called God an awful name. Can I be forgiven of this sin?

Hi Frank, I am so very sorry about your dad, I can't imagine how you feel although I can to a degree--lost my dad to cancer and then had it myself in 2011, it's a vicious disease, not only for the patients but for the loved ones who have to watch. Praying God's best for you and your dad, hugs, Mary
---Mary on 1/25/13

My Dad has been a believer and a follower of Christ his entire adult life. In the past three years he has had 2 bouts with cancer, and a stroke. He is now bedridden, and essentially waiting to die. I don't understand why God doesn't just take him home. I have asked many questions over the past 2 months. Some calmly, and some angrily. Over the years my father and I had the same kind of relationship. Sometimes we discussed things calmly, and sometimes angrily. If I can do that with my Earthly father, I truly believe that my Heavenly Father is up for that too.
So I don't think you have anything to worry about.
---Frank on 1/21/13

Some of the great heroes of the bible have argued with God, doubted God, disagreed with God, etc. so you're in great company. Even Jesus, in Gethesemane, wished that he didn't have to go through with what God wanted him to go through (even though he did eventually agree to do so).

If you look at real life, the people you tend to argue with and yell at the most are not strangers - they are close family. So you wouldn't even be in the position to ask this question if you and God weren't close.
---StrongAxe on 10/5/12

tehja, take heart. the divinity of the father, the holy spirit and the son is a great set-up. God is big boy and he knows your pain and he knows you have to vent. he is the only one who knows you and can take this. i have been there myself and i am in a better place than i was. it has to come out somehow.
---aka on 10/5/12

I felt anger for some strange reason and slipped into deep depression
I dont know what's wrong with me
I have no siblings and I feel alone !
All the time , my perents always yell at me and I'm cursed at at school
Today at church I cursed god in my mind I was so upset and angry all the pain in my heart has lasted for so long that no matter how hard you try you snap , I appologied but something is terribly wrong I keep swearing at god and at myself, I'm so sorry I can't stop it's like I'm not even controlling my actions
---Tehja on 10/5/12

hi, i was in the same situation, getting sick and showing symptoms of OCD. my friend helped me understand that everyone has inappropriate thoughts. this is normal. you need to let them pass, let them go, without thinking that you are a monster. EVERYONE has "bad thoughts". if you concentrate on them and obsess, your own fear will cause them to surface more often. let them go, you are NOT sinning, you are a normal person with stress, fears and problems like everyone else. you wont be damned, nothing will happen to you. it takes time and it's hard to believe, but i can tell you from experience that it is. god loves his children, he is not sending anyone to hell. our fears about this are unjustified.let them go. you are not a bad person.
---morgana on 7/29/12

If Jesus cursed the fig tree for not bearing fruit and he was perfect, then you are also just as perfect in nature...anger is the apprpriate response to an injustice but your hostility may be misdirected...god loves us, it just hurts to be alive sometimes.
---Dave on 5/5/12

Jesus will always forgive you if you ask Him to with a true attitude of being sorry.
---john_davenport on 3/8/12

Ian, I see this is your first answer and it was a good one. You explained it perfectly and so did Nate. We should not live in the past for if we do, we are inslave to it. We are people who look forward. Sure the past can be helpful when we give our testimony because it shows what Christ has done for us since. We are not saved by anything we do, it is all by the Grace of God through faith.
---Mark_V. on 2/9/12

Rachel, please don't feel like you are going to hell. If you have truly asked for forgiveness, God has forgiven you. Please, stop living in the past and live in God's grace.
I don't think that you have blasphemed God. If you have asked for forgiveness then don't live in the past, live in the now. God loves you and has forgiven you.
---Ian_Jayne on 2/8/12

Rachel: Jesus says that you can be forgiven, just ask.
Matt: vs 31"Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. 32"And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him, but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come," (All Scripture quotes are from the NASB).
---Nate on 12/14/11

Cluny, I just cannot figure you out. But, I hate I really do, I hate to admit that you are right. And did you know that God at times will actually lead you into confrontations with him..... Ahh Jesus, Please save a lost soul today. Thank You. My God, My Savior, My Lord, and My Friend. Hallelujah+
---catherine on 10/22/10

I think God has enough sense to know when one of His children is having a bad day and throwing a tantrum, don't you?
---Cluny on 10/22/10

Yes. But, be quick in asking Him for forgiveness.
---catherine on 10/20/10

O.K. So in a moment of fear, anger, or frustration, you called God an 'A' or a 'B' and a 'C'.

Dosn't the Bible suggest that you "cast all your cares upon the Lord".

Isn't that what you were doing?

If your God cannot withstand an argument with you, then I suggest that this is not much of a God eh?

If you want to apologise, fine, but only do so if and when you sincerely want to.
(ie: not out of a fear of some kind of so-called 'divine-retribution')

Otherwise, your 'apology' will have been 'forced', and so, mean nothing.

ask forgivness and may be ask someone to pray for you... like your pastor!!
---Patrick on 9/27/10

Emily you are only human, as we all are. Simply ask God to forgive you and mean it. Then forget it. God knows we are weak and are only dust. He knows what you are going to do before you even did it. He created you. In a moment of weakness you did something regrettable. What troubles me most is: what was the devil doing to your mind that made you do such a thing? You need to talk to our pastor, counselor or someone who can help you understand what is going on with you.
---Robyn on 9/25/10

I did something very similar only worse. In a blinding fit of rage over something very stupid I cursed at God and blamed him for all the wrong in the world. This was many years ago and it has huanted me everyday since. I have begged for forgivness many times and I even cut myself in an attemped to offer blood for forgivness. I hate myself for it and I am certian God will send me to Hell, but I don't blame him.
---Rachel on 9/25/10

To unluckyineverything: Help me Jesus! I have been bought by a God who shed His Blood, a most torturous death for me. No one had pity on my Savior. Yet, God does have great compassion. His compassion is not like ours. But, because, God had great compassion for me, I now can have it for other people. I hope your life will turn around for you. Some people do seem to have a better life, than others. Take what God gives you and go on with it, is my advice for you. [And for myself, too].

I certainly hope so. I've done it before. Well, not curse Him, but close! Ask Him to forgive you. It does fighten you, how wretched we can be! yet, He still loves us, and forgives us. What a God, oh, what a God. Thank God for His Blood.
---catherine on 2/8/10

No, you didn't "curse" God. NO ONE can put a curse on God...

Galatians 6:7
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked".

God will always be God, He cannot be harmed. Even when He is maligned/defamed before other people, He remains unharmed.

You SPOKE FOOLISHLY....APOLOGIZE and stop letting satan scare you. When you "APOLOGIZE", you will be speaking lovingly to The Lord, Him some tears and love, 'bring Him some flowers', and TRUST Him like the prodigal son trusted his dad (the tale of the prodigal son is THE BEST illustration of how God loves us and treats us...wrongdoings and all).

LOVE Him VERY MUCH (always...and ABOVE ALL wisdom and knowledge). Read 1 Corinthians 13 God is LOVE.

I am sorry you R having a difficult time.I wish there was n easy fix.Sounds like U R blaming God for the works of the devil. The Bible states that in the end times there will be suffering, I encourage you to read Matthew 24:3-14 & 2 Timothy 3:1-17.It's sad that people think God is a "Geanie in the sky", Noone ever said life would B w/o trouble. our troubles define R character. Mine was when I had 2 bury my infant daughter at 6 mos. U R blessed 2 have children who still have the hope of a future. But know this 4 certain,God is NOT the cause of UR struggles, He will allow us 2 go thru things that the enemy intends 2 take us out with. But HE IS an ever present help in our time of need.God Bless you
---sandrad14God on 2/2/10

You know what....this so call god...does not exist. if he did then why so much suffering. I must be the most unlucky person going. Everything i try to do turns to dust. And all i want to do is give my children a good future. Why don't you die so call god since you can't even do your job properly! All i can see are those undeserving, the most evil of people enjoying life. Yeah hardworkers just suffer. Great job you're doing. You should really be called an idiot.

Here is something to think about: If anyone states that the bible is the word of God, or even that it is the inspired word of God AND it isn't, or that something in the bible isn't inspired, then would they then be calling God and the Holy Spirit a liar? Would this then be called "blasphemy"? This one thing is why I am putting the bible to a test to see what is fact or fiction.
---james on 6/21/08

Emily, (II.) ...many feel guilty of this, and they are not. Don't let the devil disturb you, rob you of God's peace, ignore him when he brings "unpleasantness to your mind". The devil doesnt want Gods Obedient people to have the peace that they are promised. All of Gods promises must be "claimed first", so claim your promise and hold fast to it, say to yourself that "Gods peace is mine, and I refuse to be robbed"....
---Mrs._Morgan on 6/21/08

yes, you can repent of that and never do it again. blasphemy against the H.G. you know something is wrong in God's eyes, as manifested by the Holy Ghost beyond a shadow of a doubt and then say you will openly rebel against God anyways. for example: the H.G. tells you in your heart that Jesus is the Christ and then you live your life in direct disobedience to everything he taught. you lie, cheat, steal, commit adultery, abuse your parents, wife, children etc in direct rebellion against truth Jesus taught.
---ashley on 6/1/07

A momentary thought is not a sin. Even if it lingered during a period of confusion or doubt, and you were not in full control or felt that you really did not mean to do this, then God knows what is in your heart. It would be appropriate to apologize to God and then rest at ease. Try to find better things to occupy your brain.

"Can I be forgiven of this sin?"
---alan8869_of_UK on 6/1/07

What you did you didn't blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. Blaspheming against the Holy Ghost is when you give credit for Satan for the healings that God had done. All sin is forgiven, execpt blasphemy against the Holy Ghost and I don't think you done that.
---Rebecca_D on 10/16/06

Your question asks if you blasphemed against God. Perhaps you did. If so, join the (sinner's) club. That particular sin would be no worse than any other. Sin is sin. God forgives sinners. Just ask Him.

If you meant did you blaspheme the Holy Spirit (what Jesus called the sin that would not be forgiven), no you did not.
---Bruce5656 on 10/13/06

Cursing God is most assuredly not the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit in that sense.

The other thing is that, if you are a Christian, the devil does not get "in" your mind. He cannot read your mind, know your thoughts or communicate to you directly in your mind. He can influence you by what you hear and see (external temptation) but he cannot tempt you internally.

James tells us that when we sin, we are "drawn aside of our own lust (wants, wishes and desires) - internal temptation or we are enticed - external temptation. James 1: 13-15

Feel free to write me personally if you want any further information on this.
---Bruce5656 on 10/13/06

Emily, you didn't curse God (Most likely not). demons have a way of putting statements into an exposed person's spirit that he/she thinks are his own thoughts though they actually aren't thoughts. Are you experiencing a problem where it seems like unwanted thoughts pour into your head and you can't control them?
---Okebaram on 10/12/06

Emily, don't you think that God has enough sense to know the difference between when someone is indulging in deliberate hatred and rebellion towards Him, and which of His children is just having a tantrum on a bad day?

Linda is correct.

If you are worried about it, you haven't done it. One who has blasphemed the Holy Spirit will have no conviction of the sin at all due to the unbelief.
---Linda6563 on 10/12/06

Emily,(III.) Learn to Feed your mind good things like the Word of God,meditate on the goodness of the Lord, this will drown the devil out,he will lose his weapon, if you ignore him. Be careful of what music you listen to, what programs you watch, this can affect your mind, I pray that you will let the Lord give you His peace. Drown the devil out with this:(Philippians 4:8)(Ephesians 5:19).Also (sing the Jesus Blood songs), he can't stand the Divine Blood of Jesus, he won't stick around for long!God Bless.
---Mrs._Morgan on 10/12/06

Emily, (I.)Thoughts can come from "self", from God, or from the devil. Any thought that you agree with, embrace, is counted as being "from your heart", God knows your heart (don't let the devil try to fool you into thinking that you agree with a bad thought, even though you know you don't, he is the master deceiver). The devil can torment a person to death if they are not clear on this. Adultery of the heart has been misunderstood by many.....
