Mima, I would think it applies to being blinded by the light of a false Christianity that parades as the only way of Salvation. Not only does it introduce pride into life, but stubborness, and wilful disobedience together with the attitude that no other adult (apart from a member of the same church) can teach (you) anything. These chains are religious ones. They make ineffectual all the work and prayer of believers who try and make them see the light. It is like witnessing to the deaf and blind. |

I have seen the results of the cains but know that they can be broken. The doctrine is very hard to change, even with Bible proving it is not correct, when one has been taught most of their life by parents/grandparents & "church". One especially hard to change is the misinterpreted use of the gift of "tongues". |

Filled with faith or filled with religion.
Religion doesn't need faith in God. Religion can practice tradition, prayers by auto-pilot rote, washing of the outward vessel, even blog about religion but not have enough faith to pray a prayer with faith. Religion has faith in works but without works, it's lost, does not know what to do. |

The Holy Spirit gives us the gift of faith to believe that Jesus Christ sets the captives free from all bondage. |

It's not faith that does this but legalism. |

I have a family who goes only by tradition even if you show them truth from the Bible. They are stubborn in their ways and wont even study the Bible. When I discovered truth and go by what it says, they called me weird and worse off now. They do go to church yet at the same time, belive the dead can talk to you, belive in satans deceptions etc. Talk about worshipping 2Gods. |

Too many times we get caught up in our own traditions that cause people to be bound up. We need to get rid of man's traditions and stick to the word of God. |

Alot of people are set in their ways and won't hear anything different. Some people I know believe what their grand-parents believe and never knew the real truth of the bible, until God opened up their eyes. To me it is called Hand-me down religion. Many people are set in their belifs their to stubbron to believe anything else. and that cause conflict with other people putting a barrier between them and others, and alot of times the true word of God. |

True if the beliefs are burdensome & compulsory towards others. The chains are traditional beliefs that bind & blind the mind rather than freeing it. Jesus sums it up quite nicely. Mat.15:3 "Why do ye also transgress the commandments of God by your traditions?" Ver.6 "...Thus have ye made the commandments of God of none effect by your traditions."V.9 "But in vain they do worship me teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." That you may keep your own traditions. |

If our beliefs as Christians are wrong and unBiblical, then they could cause other Christians to become bound by believing the same thing. However, I do not believe that any chain cannot be broken by the Lord Jesus Christ. |

I'd like to know the context in which this was said. Frequently this can affect the meaning of one sentence. |
