Sins You Have Overcome

What have you overcome in your past or trying to overcome now? Anything, whether it is surgury or family? Maybe we can help each other. I got a prescription to help me quit smoking. Lord God above knows I need help. Pray. Cause I need to quit. I don't think it is wrong, but it is harmful to all.

(II.)I will pray for you, a matter of fact, already have, and felt the Lord's holy Anointing! I know you will stop! The Anointing that I feel right now, concerning this! You will Stop! What have I overcome through Christ Jesus Rebecca? 85 words isn't sufficient! Rebecca, Because Jesus overcame , YOU too will overcome! Amen! Glory to God! He is Good! But you know this already Rebecca, you know. See you in the Rapture, and see you in Heaven, Rebecca. God Bless.

Donna9759, you say it's not adultery or fornication, but you don't write what it is; so, possibly it IS such a shame for you, even though it isn't adultery or fornication, that you do not want to tell us what it is, which you keep on doing. I possibly feel like you do, about a certain thing I keep on doing. "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/7/07

My main two main sin problems are sexual fantasizing and self-righteously criticizing others (along with how I can get paranoid about what certain people might do to me). I notice how often after I give in to the pleasure thing, the criticizing and paranoid nonsense comes as the caboose. After the pleasure comes the pain later. There can be guilt, too; but . . . we can't use punishing ourselves to pay God off for the wrong pleasure things we do.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/7/07

I understand that Satan's spirit is "the spirit who works in the sons of disobedience" (see Ephesians 2:2) > this spirit is lousy and nasty, will have me doing some pleasure thing, but then that nastiness of the wrong spirit messes me after I have given in to its pleasure seeking. And I know about rebuking, etc., too, but can still get taken into the stuff. And I offer myself to the LORD, for whatever He pleases to do with me . . . but . . . STILL . . .
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/7/07

So...I know better and submit to God as well as He blesses me to; so "why" does the immoral pleasure stuff and conceit stuff continue? One thing comes to me > God is mainly concerned about how He wants me to relate with Him and to lovingly relate with a-l-l other people > stopping certain wrong actions is not enough > He wants me personally relating with Him and loving ALL people, with no favoritism > "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?" (in Matthew 5:46)
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/7/07

To Donna 9759: Stop the nonsense! If you have truly given your heart to Jesus...stop torturing yourself! You are going to always be sinning. We may be delivered from some of our sins but never all of them. Ok. You are torturing yourself needlessly. God has given us a way of escape. Use it. Everytime we sin and even when when we think we have not sinned. What do we do? We confess, repent, receive God's forgivess. Move on with your life, from that point.
---Robyn on 5/7/07

To say that sins are not overcome but forgiven is a cop out.

No attempts to overcome sin by observing strict laws and rules will ever work. But the Bible says, "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh" (Galatians 5:17). Be governed by impulses coming from the Holy Spirit in your human spirit, and you won't be ruled by the natural thinking and desires that draw you towards sin.
---Charles on 5/7/07

Sin always takes more than it gives. Whatever you gain by compromise you will eventually lose. Sin is the deadly human condition which opens the door to oppression and God's displeasure and judgment. Sin definitely creates a barrier to true communication with God. The wages of sin is death. Spiritual death. God loves us and wants us to overcome sin. He knows we are powerless to do it by ourselves, and for this reason has given us the Holy Spirit for our warfare against evil and sin.
---Charles on 5/7/07

There are two root sins - one is pride and the other unbelief. Pride is an attitude which is demanding and arrogant, denies its need for God, is unteachable, impatient, overly critical of others and hard hearted.

Unbelief is the root of much sin. These roots cause insensitivity to others, saying and doing things that were better not said or done.
---Charles on 5/7/07

"Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit" (Romans 8:5).

To overcome sin, set your mind on the "Things of the Spirit". The presence of God, love of God, fruit of the Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit (communication with God), the Word of God. Things of the flesh are any kind of lust, selfish ambition, greed, envy, jealousy, hatred, bitterness or prideful thought.

I am certain that smoking is wrong! Because I once had the same addiction. Whether or not you are delivered of this addiction Almighty God has already forgiving you in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, who He bruised for our iniquities on the cross. Rest in this knowledge and continue to pray for deliverance.

The hardest thing I had to overcome was my animosity towards my mother and my up bringing. In some ways I was abused physically and definitely mentally. I grew up without any self-esteem and it wasn't until I accepted counseling and overcame my low self-esteem and accepted my mother for who she was and forgave her. We do have a fairly good relationship; and, I feel she did what she thought she was doing was the right thing at the time.

Helen; If you have never overcame anything, then your still battling some things from the past. Jesus even tells us to overcome tribulations and battles in our life, and you haven't overcome anything? I'm not taking about sin Helen, I'm talking about battles, something that hit you hard. Ro 3:4, If your not an overcomer how do you expect to go to heaven? Rev 3:21. We can be overcomers because Jesus has overcomed the world.
---Rebecca_D on 11/2/06

(II.) Donna9759, Don't let doubters affect you, they are not doing what they need to be doing. " ....Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us" (Romans 8:37) (Philippians 4:13). This is where some Christian's fail , they haven't learned to draw on that power that Jesus offer's, most deny that it even exist, it exists Donna!, and you know it exists you just have to have faith in God, and not yourself.

(III.)Donna9759, Many say that sin must FOREVER be "a struggle" with a born-again child of God, they even misapply the Scriptures to "try to" prove this, but take heart, they are WRONG, God says : ( 1 Corinthians 10:13)(Romans 6:14-18). The flesh is against the Spirit, and Spirit against the flesh(Galatians 5:17)once again, when you CONTINUE to draw on Jesus(leaning on Him for strength)......

(IV.)Donna, will find that "the Spirit" will start winning the "flesh vs. Spirit" war in your life this is your "HERTIAGE IN CHRIST JESUS" [so yield and draw on Jesus, the Holy Spirit, depend on His power, use that divine powerful Blood that He sent for us to USE DAILY(Rev. 12:11)] it will amaze you, Jesus' overcoming power amazes me daily! Bible fasting will help you too! Don't lose hope(2 Timothy 1:12)!
---Mrs._Morgan on 11/2/06

(V.)Donna9759, ":for I know whom I have believed.....(2 Timothy 1:12)" Donna, believe in Jesus , not "yourself", the world has their "positive thinkers" and "motivational speakers", yet they don't have what YOU have, JESUS CHRIST THE RIGHTEOUS! God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 11/2/06

(I.)Donna9759, Don't beat yourself up about this, God wants you to have His Victory and His Peace(Hebrews 12:1) (Philippians 4:7).Everytime you try to do this on your own, you will fail, you must learn how to draw on Jesus, on His overcoming power, and not "your own power"(which is very "willing" but WEAK!), when we "cease not in" drawing on Jesus, we will be overcomers EVERYTIME.

Emcee - "Nailing sin to the Cross" is a spiritual thing. Jesus took all sin on the Cross. The Cross is not demonic. It is a crucifix that is demonic. The Cross where Jesus died for sin was on Calvary and was real, and it's finished work there by Jesus is real today in the hearts and lives of born-again Christians.
---Helen_5378 on 11/2/06

Donna9759 - How about asking the Lord to take the desire for that sin away from you? I did that with my anger problem... I cried out to the Lord to please take it away and He did. Bless you.

Helen, I've done all of that. I've nailed it to the cross, I've binded it in Jesus name, I've cried out to Father to set me free from it, but it's a battle between my flesh wanting to commit this sin, but my spirit man doesn't want to. I lose control, commit the sin, repent with tears, etc., There has to be a way for the MANIFESTATION of overcoming sin to be evident in our life. Just telling me to nail it to the cross and leave it there dosen't tell my flesh to stop doing it. Please help. Thank you.
---Donna9759 on 11/1/06

Sins you have overcome is the title. We all know it's Jesus Christ that overcomes sin. Bottom line, we want to be an encouragement to Rebecca. She's not recruiting any sympathy, and some us want to urge her on. Rebecca, be an overcomer in Christ Jesus. It's semantics. I know Jesus is the deliverer, and the Great Physician.
---Shiela on 11/1/06

Donna9759 - You don't overcome the sin. Jesus already overcame it on the Cross. You need to nail it to the Cross of Christ and leave it there, believing that Jesus took your sins away and that He overcame everything on the Cross for you.
---Helen_5378 on 10/31/06

Rebecca D - I have been through very hard times in my lifetime. As I said, I have not overcome anything. Somehow I battled my way through. Until I came to Christ and He turned everything around for me. I still have battles, but they are done in Christ the One Who overcame everything on the Cross for me.

Helen; What situations have you overcome in your past that isn't a sin? You have not been faced with anything in your life with your back against the wall? If you haven't been through anything, hats off to you sister.
---Rebecca_D on 10/31/06

Helen, good answer! How can I overcome a sin if I keep on committing it? I want to stop, and I repent every single time I do it, but I can't stop. It's not adultery or fornication. It's something that I know is wrong, it's sin, but I can't stop doing it. How do I stop? I've asked forgiveness tons of times and receive that forgiveness, but then I go ahead and commit the same stupid sin again. How do I overcome this?
---Donna9759 on 10/31/06

I apologise. I thought Jack was saying, why don't we just stay on task and answer the questions instead of veering off in another direction.
Rebecca, to quote Helen "I'll just open my mouth again to change feet."
You could chew snuff for awhile to help you through the rough spots, maybe. Maybe not.

I have not overcome any sin in my life. The Lord Jesus Christ conquered all sin on the Cross. Sin is forgiven, not overcome.

I believe you can overcome smoking, Rebecca.
With your faith, you'll make it. Keep your honesty and humor going. I've enjoyed reading your posts. I would rather read one Rebecca than 10,000 posts who try to say all the right things, at all the right times, in all the right ways, for all the right people.

Rebecca, I think about you. You talk about your kids, husband, church. You lay it all on the table, and I think you've come a long way, sister. I pray you lay those ciggies down, for you and the kids. I know you can do it.

I'll be praying for you, Rebecca. I would share my victories but like another poster said it isn't worth being torn apart over by people who just want to argue, judge and condemn.

grace3869 , I will pray for you, only believe like our Lord says, only believe that the One who has saved your soul will deliver you from this according to your faith IN HIM, not yourself. Put it under the Blood of Jesus, and leave it there, case closed! God Bless!

Once more the title given to an intial posting does NOT adequately reflect what the posting says.

Why does this repeatedly happen?
---Jack on 10/29/06

I haven't overcome any. Jesus, by His death, delivered me from the dominion of sin and then overcame all sin in His resurrection. It is in Him I trust and any experience of His overcoming power in my life has come by the blood of the Lamb being appropriated by faith and applied by the Word of my testimony.
