Are There Unsaved Christians

Is there such a thing as an unsaved Christian? Here in my country there's a lot of discrimination amongst Christians. Born again, saved: aren't these all just labels and nothing else. Is it not the doctrine that matters, that I believe in Jesus to be the Messiah?

Unsaved christian is a oxymoron. I think that's the word I am looking for. You have to be born again...God's way to be a bona fide christian. It is not just a label. Its a lifestyle and a serious relationship with God,through his Son,Jesus.

"And many will say to me Lord Lord ... and I will tell them depart from me I never knew you"
There are wheat and tares, only God knows the Diff. Many claim the name of Christ and do not Know Him. [Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 10:9-13. How to be sure.]

RitaH ... I hope I will not be accused of blasphemy, but about 26 years ago I converted from oil to gas! (Much cheaper way of heating the house)

But seriously, when I was "converted" some 50 years ago, that was the term in common use among Christians to describe becomimg a Christian.

Isn't it a pity that so many here say that most Christians are not saved ... just because we don't use the modern buzz phrases?
---alan_of_UK on 4/7/08

'Saved', 'born-again', 'converted' are all interchangeable terms (except you need to be specific with the last one and make clear what you have converted from and to). There is no such thing as an unsaved Christian but there are many who call themselves Christian who are not saved, born-again or converted.
---RitaH on 4/5/08

The only catholics that have gone to be with god have been born again. no one that has not been born of the spirit or water is waiting for us in heaven, we must be born again. john 3:3,7 and 1peter 1:23.
---shelton on 4/4/08

There are many Christians that wear the badge of a Christian, but are NOT one. They say they are Christians because they read the Bible, pray, go to church, or believe in God. So does the DEVIL-is he a Christian, NO. The Bible calls this apostacy. The Bible say that you will know the TRUE followers of Jesus by their fruit-they will live the Bible and live like Jesus.
---Leslie on 12/11/07

Christians who proclaim that are "saved" are basing this presumption on one or two verses in scripture, but are not considering everything that the Bible says concerning salvation. They believe that if they confess that Jesus is Lord they are saved based on Paul's letter to the Romans. (Ch 12) They often condemn other Christians who do not subscribe to this idea of salvation thru "faith alone" and nullify the individuals role in his own salvation.
---janet on 12/11/07

There is no such thing as an unsaved Christian. If a person is saved, they are a "born-again Christian". Many people, especially the cults like JWs, SDAs, RCs, LDSs, call themselves Christians but in reality they are not saved at all. A Christian is a Christian and is somebody who has received Jesus Christ into their heart and life as Saviour and Lord.
---Helen_5378 on 12/11/07

No. However there are many people whom call themselves Christian when in fact they are not Christian at all; and these are both unsaved and nonChristian.
---Eloy on 4/18/07

The answer is YES. there are millions of people in the world drawing near to God with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him. That includes catholic and born again churches. They love to follow false doctrines and deny many scriptures. They follow the pleasures and evils of the world. We are to love Jesus Christ, follow His commandments, repent of our sins and live by example, but many ignor that fact. People are going to be in for a shock at judgment day.
---ashley on 4/17/07

Many people call themselves Christians but you cannot see Christ in there lives. If you talk to them you will see they don't know Christ personally. They know of Christ but do not know him. For example: Take the Catholic religion, they call themselves Christian, but look at what they believe. They pray to Mary, worship idols and there salvation is by works, not grace. If you are born again, you are a Christian, if you are unsaved, then you are going to hell.
---Rev_Herb on 4/17/07

Yes, there are the wheat and the tares.
---chris on 11/5/06

The wheat are truly reborn believers in Jesus Christ. The wheat have the fruits of the Holy Spirit, which only comes fr. the Holy Spirit. Tares can have a form of Godliness but deny the power. Tares can speak, look, & act Holy ( which is not the true Holiness of God). Tares can mimick the fruits of the Holy Spirit ( which is not the true fruits of the Holy Spirit) They can read the bible and act what it says, without the spirit of God in them ( they can know the letter of God but do not have His Spirit).
---Chris on 11/5/06

Donna2277 - I believe the people you are describing are religious people. They "have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof" (2 Timothy 3:5). The fake is easy to pick... it reeks of self.
---Helen_5378 on 11/4/06

Rev Herb, you are pretty hateful. there are just as many catholics in Heaven right now as baptist probably more since they have been around alot longer than your denomination. The gospel is more than just getting to Heaven its about changing lives and restoring the relationship with God. that can happen in Catholic, Friends, penicostle and any other christian church.

Rebecca D.-->>How many unsaved people are striving to be Christ-like? None<<

May I add a comment, please? Many people with a superficial "head knowledge"
of Jesus believe He was a great teacher and perfect example of how to live. To them,
"striving to be Christ-like" is ALL that makes them a "Christian"....and that's what they claim to be. They do not necessarily believe that Jesus was God and are puzzled by the whole idea of being "born again".

Jared, I really like that statement you made about people believing and not acting. God wants us to also be a doer of his word, and not just a believer. And yes many will come, But will be turned away by the Lord..
---stephanie on 11/3/06

Herb. The look on your face when you get to heaven, and God giving you a home next to every Catholic that made it in - would be priceless. Your heavenly home, surrounded with those you railed against on earth. God does have a sense of humor.
---anonymous on 11/3/06

anonymous, I take it you are a modernist, one who believe everyone is going to heaven, no matter what they believe as long as they believe in something. I you think a Catoholic is going to heaven they you won't have to lead them to the truth which is Christ, but if you know they are lost, maybe you will find it in your heart to tell them about Jesus. Shame on you bunch of liberals.
---Rev_Herb on 11/3/06

mbsa, Forget labels! It IS what you BELIEVE that counts. Jesus is Messiah! But more than that, Jesus, Son of God and equally Divine, died and suffered in OUR place(yours and mine). Hell is what we deserve..we could never be good enough for a Holy God to accept us. If you believe that Jesus, holy as He was, died to pay for YOUR sins.. and ask Him.. from your forgive your sins and give you a new life, He will! That's being "born again" or "saved" (same thing) Read John 3.

greetings.there are apparent christians and there are true believers.without mercy there is no division.
---earl on 11/2/06

Yes there are unsaved Christians. they are the ones that believe but do not act. James says that our faith must be shown through actions. this does not mean that our works save us but I can say many things, But you know what means the most to me if I put my money, and energy into what I say. Ultimatly only God knows if a person is a disciple. He says that many will come to him saying Lord Lord I've done this and that, and he'll say I don't know you.
---Jared on 11/2/06

That's an oxymoron. A Christian believes Jesus is God's Son, he died and rose to pay for our sin. The only way we receive the gift Ephesians 2:8,9 of salvation is repenting Mark 1:15 Luke 13:3,5 believing in Jesus as Saviour John 14:6, Acts 4:12. Some people believe Jesus was a good teacher, just a man, but not God John 1:1,9-14, who became flesh to die for our sins Romans 5:8. They don't believe the word of God. Some people don't know, and others just reject what the Bible says about Jesus.

(II.)(Hebrews 10:19,20) "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a [new and living way],which he hath consecrated for us, through the VEIL, that is to say, his flesh;" Only those that are TRULY SAVED can enter into the "holy of holies" going through"the veil"(Jesus). Because they present that precious divine Blood, they can come BOLDLY before the Father.

Just because a person believes in God that doesn't make them a Christian. When a person becomes born again, that is when they can call themselves a Christian. Christian means to be Christ-like. How many unsaved people are striving to be Christ-like? None.
---Rebecca_D on 11/2/06

Christian's who have the divine Blood of Jesus (working/flowing) in their lives/souls are SAVED (Hebrews 10:20), those who don't , ARE NOT. It's really that simple! God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 11/2/06

You can believe Jesus is the Messiah, but faith without works is dead. Meaning do you worship Jesus? Do you have a living relationship with Jesus? Or do you just believe and it stops there? Jesus did not say Born again is a label, it's a way of life. The first time you are born of the flesh, the second time you are born of the Spirit, thus the term Jesus used is Born Again. It's not a label, it's a way of life.
---Donna9759 on 11/2/06

If you're a Christian, you are saved from the wrath of God. But if you're a Christian and don't obey the word of God, you can be in big trouble and suffer the consequences of your disobedience. Many Christians have not been through the process of sanctification which is the process that purifies you, makes you want to obey Jesus at all cost, it brings you out of darkness and into the Light with Jesus. Maybe that's what you're referring to as an unsaved Christian?

Enough already, Herb. I'm not Catholic, but being a blast furnace is not helpful. But then again, there are helpfuls on the list that don't reflect Christianity. Matt Ch 23 says we're not to call you reverend either. Reverend is used only once in Esther 3:2. You should lose your title.
---anonymous on 11/2/06

There are wolves in sheeps clothing and as I do not have the gift of discernment I cannot judge. A true Christian knows their heart and their thirst for God through Jesus. I look to peoples works not their titles. sarah4998
---Sarah on 11/2/06

The Bible tells us that at end many "Christians" will appear before Jesus telling Him all about the missionary work they did for Him while on earth.
His answer: I do not know you! Go away!
So the answer to the question is YES! P.
---Pierrr5358 on 11/2/06

There is no such creature as an unsaved Christian. That's an oxymoron (an impossibility). Many people call themselves Christians; but, unfortunately aren't.

To be a Christian one must be "BORN AGAIN" (saved) . (John 3:3-21; Ro. 1:16-17, 10:8-10; 2 Cor. 5:17)

Just believing in Jesus as Messiah & not believing on Him & confessing Him as Saviour & Lord is not salvation.

I have known and heard of people who were living a Christian life, even to being a Sunday School teacher for 10 to 20 years who realized they aren't really saved and come to Christ then. They have gone through all the head motons but they didn't have Christ in their heart. They were followers of Christ's Word who had never had the conversion experience but did it through their own wills and effort. Until they believed and received Christ into their hearts they were unsaved because faith saves not works.

Paul gave a clear definition of what a Christian is in Philippians 3:3

A Christian is someone who:
Worships God in the spirit - Jesus told the woman at the well that while her fathers worshiped God in a specific place the time would come when people would worship God in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23) - Independent of time, place or ritual.
---Bruce5656 on 11/2/06

That is not to say that there will never be a time and a place to worship with other people, but our relationship with God will not be contingent on having access to or participating in such things.
---Bruce5656 on 11/2/06

A Christian is someone who:
Rejoices in Christ Jesus There is no other way to peace with God the Father other than through His Son, Jesus Christ. Sole mediator between God and Man. Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

or supplement what he has done.

A Christian is someone who:
Has no confidence in the flesh Nothing we can do can cause, enhance or make more firm our salvation. No ritual, sacrament, liturgy, sacrifice, service, membership or good deed can make me any more saved than simply believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as the sole provider for my salvation. Acts 16:31, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved"

Romans 4:1-5, "What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
---Bruce5656 on 11/2/06

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

There are lots of people who call themselves Christian but whos life and religion do not conform to these simple truths as outlined by Paul. They are Christian in name only. They are not saved. Jesus spoke of this truth when he said: Matthew 7:21-23, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
---Bruce5656 on 11/2/06

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Paul told Timothy that there would be those who: 2 Timothy 3:5, "Have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof: from such turn away."
