Should We Thank God
In the Lord's Prayer, Matthew 6:9-13, which Jesus gave as a model, there appears to be nothing about THANKING God. Why? Did I miss something? I thought thanks would precede requests.

To Whosoever has an ear to hear?
"Thanks" succeeds a request.
When we give all "GLORY" to God we are thanking Him.We are thanking God for every blessing found in the grace of His Spirit at the end of the Lord's Prayer, where we acknowledge that all "GLORY" of the Kingdom & Power goes unto God.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered by us (Rom.8:26)

You are missing something, Matthew 6 is written to the nation of Israel. 2, what did they have to be thankful for? they had to work for there salvations. Starting in Romans, Paul tells us that Christ came and took the law out of the way for us, and that we are now saved by faith in him that died for us. Thank God for he sent his own Son to die on the cross to save our souls, we just simply have to believe.

The Apostle Paul starts off most of his Epistles with "I thank my God always, etc."
The Psalms tells us to "Enter His gates with Thanksgiving and His courts with Praise." Do a study on it, you will find that most folks who worship the Lord, have a thankful heart, and "Give Thanks" unto God our Father and Jesus his Son.

In the Catholic Church We thank Him when take Communion (the word Eucharist itself means an action of thanksgiving).
'And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.' (Mt. 26:26-28)

i think the whole point of that prayer was to show our submission to God and also to highlight the important things in life.
i don't think that prayer was a checklist of things to pray for. if it was a checklist i'm sure it could be made a hundred times as long and then you would be asking, are we supposed to pray all day long?
i think that we should be thankful.

Praise God! Don't thank Him!

Um thanking God is in the lords prayer (we were forgiven right) I don't think the lords prayer is the only model of prayer to look at if you think that you have a very narrow understanding of prayer. Jesus hit the highlights but did not by anymeans give us everything. prayer can only be taught by experience that is why Jesus took his disciple with him to show him how to pray.

I did a word search for "Give" and "Thanks" and found many verses where it says we are to give thanks to the Lord. The Lord's Prayer is a model of prayer. It is not the only prayer we are to pray.
