In what little I have studied on this he was up-right. Standing up. Actually it was a curse placed by God. Crawl on your belly and eat dirt.

If you'll reread this story you'll see that God did'nt make him into a serpent that crawls on his belly & eats the dust of the earth, until after he decieved Eve in the garden, I believe it is Satan in the form that God made him into when he cast him outta Heaven, then change him into a belly crawling serpent after he decieved Eve...

#1 The serpent of old the father of lies who is called Satan. The serpent was the most crafty of the beasts of the field, which suggests some form of elevated intelligence and consciousness among the animals. The serpent had legs or some abiblity to levitate, because one of the judgements against the serpent is he shall crawl on his belly and eat dust.

The serpent was right before the fall, so it probably looked very beautiful and nothing like today's serpents.

People has to remember that Eve didn't know who Satan was. I'm sure he was a beautiful creature. Before eating of the fruit, she didn't know evil. She only knew good. But she wanted more knowledge, and Satan knew this and tricked her. Then her and Adam's eyes were opened.

The serpent was not only the most intelligent creature of all, but perhaps the most beautiful also. It may have had wings and stood upright. The serpent is the first of three creatures besides man which speaks in the Bible. "Ye serpents, ye generation of viper, how can ye escape the damnation of hell". [Matt. 23-33] Also take a note on this:And the serpent said....Ye shall not surely die.">>> Are there any lies in the Bible? There are indeed and here is the first one.

#2 Somehow I'm sure this serpent that has legs or can fly or both is linked to the pagan worship of dragons and the somewhat glorification of the massive serpent with legs and wings. Satan is refered to as a dragon in Revelation.

Sam, that is correct. We know that Satan can appear in different forms. That Serpent of Old. Prince of the power of the air. Angel of the bottomless pit. Prince of Demons...and so forth. Anyone studied this in Hebrew? Why Adam and Eve knew they were naked and made coverings for their body....the form that Serpent of Old took in the garden?

The serpent was satan.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

It was Satan. Rev 12:9. Eve didn't know anything bad so, the snake wasn't ugly to her. What it looked like...a snake. Snakes represent the enemy.

Eloy, this explains the 'gemstone blog'. First thing that popped in my mind, thank you.

The serpent was the devil disguised as a snake, but then again I've had some snakes in my life I'm sure we all have.

What about these scriptures as to what the serpent looked like and who he was? Ezek.28:13-17. and 1John:8-12.

His name is Heylel, the beautiful cherub that made music and covered the Lord with his wings. "In Eden the garden of God you have been; every precious stone your covering, the ruby, the topaz, and the diamond, the chrysolite, the onyx, and the jaspers, the sapphire, the turquoise, and the emerald, and gold: The workmanship of your finger cymbals and of your pipes in you, in the day you were created, they were prepared." Ezekiel 28:13.

greetings. The 'who'in the garden that was behind the manipulation of Eve was not visible. Therefore the serpent ,known as an ambush type animal was a good comparrison. The ambush that Eve was caught in was the manipulative idea that it was right yet it was wrong .Sometimes what one thinks as doing good is actually the short cut to failure. The one time Prince of this world with his authority at that time with assistance of others was succesful in his scheme to uproot the plans of Adam and Eve.

Ever see a sneaky man or have you ever seen a sneaky animal? Perhaps the original serpent in the Garden of Eden could be classified as sneaky. But being sneaky and subtle and deceptive and a tool of Satan did not prevent him from spending the rest of earthly time crawling on his belly in the dust. Perhaps on the new earth he will again walk upright. Why do I say this, because God says,"BEHold" I make all things new.

"Not my will, but Thine be done." - Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus knew that to be crucified was the only way for Him to pay the price of our sins, but I believe that, given the choice, He would have taken away the pain. But this He could not do. My guess that the serpent at that time was the temptation to NOT do His Father's will.
