From the story of Jacob & Esau and the parable of the talents we see that the Father does not hand out "blessings" equally.
At the same time Matthew 5:17-20 makes in clear that a blessing will follow those who are obedient (and teach others to be obedient) to the Word.
Therefore obedience does result in certain blessings but not every blessing.

Certainly obedience brings God's favor but to answer the second part of your question, He does bless "whomever He feels like" and his grace and mercy are endless. He does find favor with some that we would consider as "bad christians" too. We cannot second guess whom he will show His grace and mercy to. But we must obey Him. To one with much, more will be added as well as required and to whom that has little, it will be taken away (applies to the spiritual).:)

Favour>>>.means when you do not deserve it. Blessings also, comes about through obedience. Obedience in what God tells you to do directly, face to face and through the word of God. And for goodness sakes when God tells you to do something, do not run to the Bible to check it out. Just obey Him.>>>Do not forget to bless God. Godly men should bless God, they should adore Him, worship Him and praise Him. I looked up the word and you would be surprise at the different meanings.>>> More to come

God blesses nature, mankind, the Sabbath, nations [Ps. 33:12], classes of men [Ps. 1:1-3 and individuals Gen. 24:1, ect.>>The secret of the godly man's success: is not found in his godliness, but in that the Lord knoweth the ways of the righteous. And I found this: The godly man is described as a tree planted by the rivers of water. The verb planted [Heb shatal] indicates that the godly man did not accidently, nor under his own initiative, take root. Read all of it in Ps. 1:2-6. A lot of good things.

Yes, obedience brings blessings, and disobedience condemnation, however God causes His sun to shine on the just and the unjust. He is a God of love, desiring good things for us and His kindness leads to repentance.

I want to quote Dr Bryan Chappell
"If Christians always recieved material blessings as a recompense for obedience, then it would be impossable to seperate personal duty from divine bribery. Christainaty would become merely a bartering system for personal gain!

If you went to a "limited seating" concert and stood in line as the only way in, does that guarantee a seat? No, but it does let the people know you are willing to do your part. I just want there to be no doubt I am willing to do what I know is my part. The rest is up to God as to where He wants me.

God surely blesses those who are obedient. God won't bless a mess. If one isn't getting blessed like they way they should think, maybe they need to take a step back and see where they failed God.

(James 1:25) But whoever looks into the perfect Law of liberty and continues in it, he is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work. This one shall be blessed in his doing.

Obedience is demanded by God, and disobedience will bring condemnation. The scripture does not say in vain, "Be sure your sin will find you out." And again, "Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that will he also reap." Therefore, what goes around comes around; what you give is what you get; and what you sow you will surely reap.

The Holy bible is God's resume. It is also the history of the relationship between God and people. If experience is the best teacher read the Bible from beginning to end and see how God rewarded his people and punished them. What He did with His people, He will surely do unto you. If you obey, He will reward.
