How Often Should We Repent

As Christians, the blood of Jesus covers and washes away our sins. So how often should we repent? For which sins as a Christian do we repent since we're "washed in the blood?"

We are continually set free from sin through the blood of Christ. Shall Christ shed HIS blood again? Its finished..
Repentance of sin will not take sin away, for the flesh will always sin. We need the Blood.
---duane on 5/2/08

"The Blood covers us but only if we continuously stay in prayer asking and seeking God's forgiveness."

That isn't what my Bible tells me. Mine says, "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin."

Does yours say that or does it say, "If we continuously pray and seek God's forgiveness, His blood cleanses us"? What Bible do you read?
---Linda on 5/1/08

In the first place do not presume on God's goodness. The Blood covers us but only if we continuously stay in prayer asking and seeking God's forgiveness. As one preacher put it, you and I just don't know how bad we really are. Unbelievers, well, they don't believe that there is anything the matter with them. They walk around all day dead people in their sins. These people don't see their sins. I have pity for these people on judgment day. My God will say to you, "there is no excuse".
---catherine on 5/1/08

I think we should repent and ask God for forgiveness whenever we notice ourselves doing something sinful. We do sin. Jesus cleanses us. 1 John 1:8-10.
---SusieQ on 4/30/08

Mrs. Morgan you always make statements that you cannot prove from Scripture concerning this issue. Show us where any man can break any seal that God has established.
Remember, Heaven was searched to find one who could break the seals of judgement and none was except Jesus. Jesus paid for us with His Blood and He keeps us. The Holy Spirit is given us as an earnest/ downpayment/promise that we are saved.
If we could lose our Salvation God would be a liar and something would be more powerful than Him.
---Elder on 4/30/08

How often should we repent? As often as the Holy Spirit convicts us of a specific sin.
Fortunately, the Holy Spirit doesn't overwhelm us with all of our sinfullness at once. As we walk with Christ, little by little we change to reflect His character.
---robin8683 on 8/17/07

Rebecca,
All we can do is just let the Holy Spirit guide us in all truth. My prayer has always been, please let me have truth.
I can only proclaim the truth I have been given.
... May God always bless you...
---duane on 8/1/07

Duane: Yeah, I understand that we will not agree. And it is pointless for me to give you scripture to back up my statements if you don't even read them. Anytime that I've replied to you, you haven't given any scripture backing up your statements. Maybe because you don't understand them and your just repeating what you've heard. I don't know.
---Rebecca_D on 7/31/07

Have you ever been around people who are offended by everything you do? You must be saying to yourself, boy I'm glad he or she's not god because if she or he was I would have to repent every second. Just thought I would right a little joke.
---Marcia on 7/31/07

Okay ---duane on 7/31/07 you answered my question I will not waste any more time talking to you.
---exzucuh on 7/31/07

Exzucuh,
If your refuring to stumbling as in sin and falling again, Well, Jesus had the answer.
HE took sin away...We cant fall through sin anymore.
---duane on 7/31/07

Rebecca,
Everyone MUST repent unto salvation...We must go from unbelief to belief.(a change of mind)
Christians dont repent of sin to be forgiven. They are forgiven.. They repent(turn from) of sin as the Spirit guides them. (Its in a christians nature to turn from sin)
I hope u understand.

Duane: Ro 3:4 God forbid yea, let God be true, and every man a liar as it is written, that thou Mightest be justified in thy sayings, and Mightest Overcome when thou art judged. We might be justified and we might overcome. In another blog you told us to repent, but now you say that a Christian doesn't need to repent. But yet, you've told me in the past that you do repent. Make up your mind in what and how you believe.
---Rebecca_D on 7/30/07

If you were falling off a cliff and I reached and caught you, you would be saved, But if you
stumbled again and fell are you saying there would be no reason for me to catch you again,
not very good reasoning there.

Exzucuh,
I never said the blood saves, I said the blood forgives. We repent(change our minds) when we accept Christ. Its through His life(resurrection) that we are saved.
A saved person is always forgiven.
A saved person doesnt repent of sin to be forgiven.
---duane on 7/30/07

Crystal,
Someone needs to tell the truth in these blogs. Most are still trying to overcome sin, when Christ overcame sin for you.
Dont live in unbelief......
---duane on 7/30/07

duane, you need to flush that goofy theology down the dwain. Who are you trying to convince, yourself? Are you really a Christian or are you just here to mess with everyone and you've found a loophole. It's the only thing you say, over and over.
---Crystal on 7/30/07

The blood of Jesus is a fact but it will save no person unless they repent. The Gospel is repent and the blood will be applied to you if you do not repent the wrath of God will be applied.
If you do not Know what you should repent of you are in serious trouble. It is only by the conviction of the Holy Spirit that a person
knows to repent. If you have the Holy Spirit
he will lead you and you will know when you should submit to him for correction.

We dont repent of sin to be forgiven...We are forgiven...
Repentance of sin will never gain forgiveness.
Its the shedding of Christs blood.
---duane on 7/29/07

Everytime we pray we should repent. If we are being convicted we should pray and repent. Repenting is not just saying a prayer and telling God how sorry you are for sinning. Repenting is also turning away from sin.
---Marcia on 7/29/07

"Our blessings get damned up". That was an oxymoron. Blessings are never damned.

You mean dammed, as in a water reservoir.
---Bob on 7/29/07

We should repent everyday, all day/night or whenever we become aware of specific sins we have committed.Give it all to Jesus. Inward, outward, sins of omissions. Everything! We should not carry unrepented sins around with us. Our blessings get damned up, our spirit is not free within us,we carry guilt and other unwanted feelings we should not have to be dealing with. Repent of these sins and let Jesus set you free. You feel soo-o-o-o-o-o-o good.

Jana...Dear it does not say anywhere in the Bible that there is a rapture in fact if you read Revelation it says on the sixth seal, trump, vial the anti christ is here and Jesus does not return until the 7th seal, vial trump. In Matthew the ones that are taken are taken by Anti christ and the ones that are left in the field working Jesus tells them well done my good and faithful servant.

If you want to make to heaven you must repent. Jesus Blood being shedd on the cross makes it possible for us to receive forgiveness. It is NO license to give up praying over ones SINS. Lets get real. For goodness sakes. You are not better than I am are you? I must repent alot because I am BAD. I am so bad sometimes till it makes me sick and I have been born-again. REPENT.
---catherine on 7/28/07

We should always be prepared to repent any behavior that we become aware of as being wrong. We should never cling to bad behavior just because "we always did it that way".

Jesus said "Go, and sin no more" - a very simple prescription for a bondage-free life.

Or, to paraphrase a more modern take on this:
"Doctor, doctor! it hurts when I do this!"
"So stop doing it!"
---Mark on 7/28/07

Eloy, when I read your opinion on sin vs mistakes you make me think that ur either perfect or have discovered a glory far beyond anything I've ever been exposed to. I know I am born of the Spirit (I know Jesus Christ died shed his blood for me and rose again defeating Satan forever), however, only someone living in another universe has/ does not sinned/sin...

You are right Matthew. Only God cannot be
tempted. Sin is temptation's fruition in
tought and or deed.
James 1:
"12: Blessed is the man that endureth temptation:
for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown
of life, which the Lord hath promised to them
that love him.
13: Let no man say when he is tempted, I am
tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with
evil, neither tempteth he any man:
---Nana on 1/7/07

#2
14: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn
away of his own lust, and enticed.
15: Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth
forth sin: and sin, when it is finished,
bringeth forth death.
16: Do not err, my beloved brethren."
---Nana on 1/7/07

You are right Lisa but understand that we are even tempted to commit a thinking sin. If a thought comes in our mind automatically against our will it is temptation. Until you entertain that thought it is only temptation and not sin. We should rebuke a thought that enters that is alien to us. If we accept we commit a sin. People tend to not know this. They assume any thought that enters your head that is evil is a sin. If that was so then there would be no temptation. People confuse the two.
---Matthew on 1/6/07

Matthew, when you etertain that thought in your brain, it is a sin. It is independent of God what you were thinking. God would want you to stop right there. Anything not of faith is sin. Doing the act is worse then just thinking it. We come to Christ as ask Him to forgive us just for thinking those things. We ask because if we didn't we would fulfill the sin and be very sorry later. Lusting after someone is thinking the thought.

We read Peter's encounter with Jesus(Matt.18:21-18:22(the Message); Peter asked "Master, how many times do I forgive a Brother or Sister who hurts me? Seven?".The Lord responds,"Seven? Hardly.Try seventy times seven";We understand how merciful and loving the Almighty God is. No matter what we have done or why,He desires for us to be contrite in heart.Let's remember Phil.2:13 It is God who works in You to act according to His good Purpose"

Jesus died to save us from death from our sins. Until He raptures us to be with Him 1Cor15:51,52,53, we r still stained with sin. This is the reason why He died for us. To save us from death. Remember it says death is the penalty of sin..that penalty stopped at the cross. but it did not cleanse us totally from sin. otherwise 1Cor15 will be wrong and we will never get to heaven 4 God dont want a sinner there...
---jana on 1/5/07

I believe many are confused with what sin is. Sin is a choice as a Christian, it is not automatic. Many confuse temptation with sin. If a sinful thought enters my head automatically have i sinned? No, not until I entertain and accept that thought. Many here who say Christians sin everyday seem to be confused with what sin is. Sin is an willful choice and action as a Christian. If a horrid thought enters your mind you haven't sin yet until you have accepted that thought. Until then it is just temptation.
---Matthew on 1/4/07

EVERY time we sin we should repent. For EVERY known sin we should repent. Sin opens the door to Satan and his demons to come and posses us. To keep this from happening, everytime we sin and every known sin sould be repented of.

5. The same way He does to all born again believers, (1 Cor. 15:10; Phil. 4:13; Col. 1:29). "My Strength is made perfect in weakness" The weaker the human instrument, the more clearly God's grace shines forth. That is what I tried to teach you in the beginning but it seems you insist on speaking of the works you do and not God's work through you. God chasten those that are partakers, and each one needs His chastising for we all fail, and as Paul needed teaching, so do we all.

Morgan, your whole interpretation of Paul's "thorn in the flesh" is very wrong. You said that Paul was a victorious Christian and walked perfectly. Which is also wrong. You also said that the devil saw that all the souls were going to God's kingdom and he tried to hindu or disturb that work. That is also wrong. 2. First of all, this mesenger of Satan was sent to Paul by God, to keep Paul humble. It was a process that God used to chasten Paul. As with Job, Satan was the immediate cause, but God was the ultimate cause. Messenger of Satan was not a spirit, but were the demomized false prophets. The leader of the false prophets that were tearing up Paul's beloved church and thus driving a painful stake through Paul. God was allowing Satan to bring this severe trouble in the church for the purpose of humbling Paul who, having had so many revelations, including a trip to heaven and back, would have been proud. The three fold repetition of Paul's request parallels that of Jesus in Gethsemane (Mark 14:32-41). God would not remove the thorn, as Paul had requestted, but would contnually spply him with grace to endure

Mrs. Morgan, No one really knows what that thorn in the flesh was. Some believe it to be Paul's eyes. You know when he was struck down, the brightness of the Glory of the Lord actually burned his eyes. Read the story in Acts.

I believe God chastens the believer who sins. 1 Corintians 5, provides an illustration of this chastening. And individual in the church who is having a sexual relationship with his fathers wife. That sin was considered immoral, and the specific sin was incest. This while going on the person got puffed (V.2) up and hadn't mourned over such sin, but rather he looked at it as a notch in his belt. And because of this, Paul tells the church in verse 4.
