Richard, everyones standing on the law!
But, the law was not made to hold anyone up. Just the opposite!
It was made to show you, you are guilty.

Only by the law! Can you know you are guilty before God!
No more or less than anyone, equally guilty!
Always remember this!

Do you need the law anymore?
What should the answer be, No?
I dont, but you might. Please!

If you have truly found yourself guilty before God!
Then you should know its of everything there is!
Its also for everything there is!

Its not am I guilty, its I am!

He that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith!
For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
God Bless

The SEG ---
Romans 2:12 For as many as have sinned without the law shall also perish with law:and as many as have sinned in the law shall be Judge
( Your responsible for the law weather you know the law or not)
Cluny - Come on I new every statement that would come before I wrote these verses. If you have a glass of wine with dinner.I don't know. Because of these verses and there more. I don't drink any more. What do you do with these verses throw them out?
Proverbs 23:20 Be not among winebibbers:
---Richard on 7/27/10

So many think you can just pick and chose the thing you will adhere to.
But, you dont understand, you think youre not sinning. In this you are!

Because, youre saying it is sin! Thereby, you are the one who is guilty of it!
You cannot put a sin on anyone! You can only condemn yourself.

Better you should pick-up a glass of wine and drink it. And say to God, thank-you for this I drink! Then to say to the mountains fall on us and hide us. You really should try to understand what it is. I am trying to tell you!

And its just so! That every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
All of us!

\\They have not put a difference between the holy and the profane, between the clean and the unclean as God has commanded.
---francis on 7/26/10\\

And you think you have, francis?

You're just trying to drive Christ's sheep into bondage.

I noted that "Use a little wine for thy stomach's sake," Jesus first miracle making hundreds of gallons of wine, and St. Paul's warning about reducing the Gospel to "touch not, taste not, handle not" are curiously missing from your list.

And just what do you think was in the cup at the Last Supper? Kool-Aid?
---Cluny on 7/27/10

There has to be a clear distinction between the world and the church.

What i see on Christianet is a lot of people who claim to know God, but there is no distinction between them and the world.

They have not put a difference between the holy and the profane, between the clean and the unclean as God has commanded.

PROVERBS 31:6 GIVE strong drink unto him is ready to PERISH, and wine unto those that be of heavy heart. ( PERISH has to do with unsave)

Forgive me, RICHARD!

Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

As I see, its good to fear God. But, fear him for the right reasons!

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Mat 7:3

The context of your quote from 1 Cor 6 is talking about sexual behavior, not drinking, eating, or smoking.

St. Paul also had sharp words for those who reduce the gospel of grace to, "Touch not, taste not, handle not."

This would include, "Drink not, smoke not."

And if it matters, I neither drink nor smoke.

CLUNY - IN 15:17 CHIRST use this parable -- IT has to do with the disciples eating bread with unwash hands. THE Pharisees taught you had to wash your hands before eating. NOT a biblical ordinance, THE PHARISEE taught man made commandment. This parble has to do with HYPOCRISY OF FALSE TEACHERS.

Will you also take the responsibility for the after effects of what you sell?

Romans 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers,

Romans 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Romans 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but HAVE PLEASURE IN THEM THAT DO THEM.

Things aren't evil in themselves. How they are used can be evil. Bring people to Christ and let Him produce a good work in them. It's like not wanting to sell computers because people could use them for evil.
What is the good that you are doing to show Christ to the world rather than the perceived evil that is happening all around you?
Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
We are not here to change their habits, we are here to be a witness for Christ.

You need to explain OSAS..Cluny.
---Robyn on 7/15/10

\\I would hate to have this on my conscience. Especially being a Christian.\\

What happened to OSAS, Robyn?
---Cluny on 7/15/10

Please find some other type business to go into. The gas station is ok. But selling beer, cigarettes and other demonic products to the public is promoting sin and wrongdoing. We are not to do this. I would hate to sell beer to someone in my store. The person go out and kill someone through reckless driving, after drinking beer sold, from my store. You would not be directly responsible for this person behavior but you would have been a contributor. I would hate to have this on my conscience. Especially being a Christian. We are to regard human life, at all times, if possible. I don't need a buck that bad. God will take care of His own.

The persons who purchase alcohol are not drinking wine for medicinal purpose. They don't sip ounces, they indulge glassfuls. Cigarettes advance disease and death. This is not new to you.
---Noel on 7/11/10 ---------------------

You don't realize that just one glass has just a couple of ounces of alcohol.

Just one drink a day has been proven to be healthy for the heart and arteries.

I drink just one beer or 1/2 a glass of wine a day for my heart. I have never been drunk not even once in my entire life. I have no problems whatsoever wanting more. There are many many people at my church that are the same way. We would never drink in front of a person who has a problem though so as not to cause them to stumble.
---obewan on 7/11/10

One verse, one question.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

The persons who purchase alcohol are not drinking wine for medicinal purpose. They don't sip ounces, they indulge glassfuls. Cigarettes advance disease and death. This is not new to you.

Do you believe your spirit will have peaceful sleep, knowing His command and your involvement, by providing drugs that will present many unhealthy bodies that won't be living sacrifices, holy, or acceptable?

Your questioning sin, and your spirit is witnessing to you, you acknowledge this sin. The decision for peace is your choice.
---Noel on 7/11/10

Beer, wine, and cigarettes are not intrinsically sinful.

Jesus's first miracle was making several hundred gallons of wine--not grape juice.

"Thou shalt not smoke or drink" is not in the Bible but merely American cultural taboo from the 19th century temperance movement.

St. Paul has a lot to say about those who reduce the Gospel to "touch not, taste not, handle not."

This also includes "smoke not, drink not."
---Cluny on 7/10/10

Does the franchise mandate selling of alcohol and cigarettes? If not then why bother?

On the other hand, a family in a church I used to go to owned a stock car race track. On Saturady nights, the concession sold quite a lot of beer. It was that way when they bought it so they just kept the tradition. Other people in the church new and never batted an eye of condemnation but there were occasional jokes about it.

Drinking in extreme moderation is not a sin, but I am not so sure about smoking.

Godliness with content is great gain. What will be your advantage if you gain the whole wide world and then sadly loose your own soul? Don't be taken in by this bunch of Money loving lot (EVIL)! I'm not surprised only a few see the harm. Enter in at the straight and narrow road, Broad is the way to destruction but narrow is the path to Eternal life and '' FEW'' few there be that find it.
---Carla5754 on 11/14/07

I agree with Nancy. You're not selling anything illegal. And it is a profitable business. Besides, there so many laws one has to follow when selling those items. I know that where I work, we have to check everyone's id who is in a group. If one person is not of age, I have to deny the sale. Also, a seller has the right to deny a sale if the person is obviously over intoxicated.

No, it's not wrong. Beer, wine, and cigarettes are legal items.

Selling them to minors, or to people who are already intoxicated, would be wrong.

But adults have the right to make their own choices.
---Nancy on 11/14/07

This is an oxymoron. A Christian that sells booze and smokes. How could you lay your head down at night, knowing that booze would travel into minor's hands, major drinkers, and taking lives. Drivers, drinkers, and all the innocent inbetween. Blood money. Make a choice.
---R.A. on 11/11/07

Want to know the answer? Pray about it. Only God can tell you whether you should purchase it or not. There will always be someone who will find fault with whatever decision you make. Do what the Lord wants. He is the only One you need to please.
---betty8468 on 12/28/06

It all depends on how you feel about it. apparently you feel it is wrong or want to make sure, cause you "think" it is wrong, or otherwise you wouldn't ask this question. I would love to open up a game-room or a skating rink for the younger people, and have a food place for the parents to eat and talk while they watch their kids.

How many here refuse to shop in stores that sell these offending items? How many shop, buy gas, and buy fast foods on Sunday? You know go out to eat after church? Aren't all of these things causing others to miss church? How legalistic can we be? Maybe as an owner you could put up signs about the risks of cig's, beer, wine, etc. Hard Call. Up to the person with prayer?
---mikefl on 12/6/06

" bubble gum? Soda? Candy? Soft Pretzels? Hoagies? Stromboli's?"
Are all those not "of this world"?
As are beef steaks, omelettes, autos, planes, computers.
But I agree that slthough smoking and drinking alcohol are not sins, to sell them in bulk and perhaps encourage people to excess, is wrong.
---AlanUKQuent5969 on 12/6/06

If you have the financial means to purchase a business, why not purchase one which will lift up Jesus. How about a Christian Book Store? There are so many more business enterprises that you could purchase without providing a means for people to get drunk and make fools of themselves.

I could not as a Christian it would be like being a go go dancer or a male or female stripper even though U can do it, is it the right thing you would cause lust and money being spent not on the family. Or having a bar and serving all kinds of liquor it would cause sin.
---Jeanne on 12/6/06

Donna, what benchmark do you use to classify beer and wine as being of the world but not gum, soda, candy, etc that you mentioned? One could argue that the junk food could be even more detrimental to one's health and testimony than beer or wine, and thus, should not be sold by Christians either.
---ralph7477 on 12/6/06

Remember that Jesus's first miracle was making several hundred gallons of WINE.

It was fermented. Deal with it, and don't change His wine into grape juice.
---Jack on 12/5/06

Jesus ate and drank with sinners and they called him a glutton and a drunkard..there is nothing wrong with drinking its getting drunk that is wrong...CS Lewis met JL Tolkein every week in an English pub for beer and discuusion...let no one judge you in eating or cigarettes? I wouldnt sell them cancer sticks..sell soda and snacks? they are killers too where do you draw the line?

I don't think you are ever going to feel good about providing people with those items. God will bless if you exchange those items for other things. Or find a different business. A gas station isn't the only thing you can get into is it?
---john on 12/5/06

Well the bible does say, "Avoid all appearance of evil" and drinking beer and wine are of the world, and smoking cigarettes, well my ex did, and I hated it and it's bad for a person's health. Why can't you sell bubble gum? Soda? Candy? Soft Pretzels? Hoagies? Stromboli's?
