Did Jesus Die Spiritually

A teaching; "He had to die spiritually, which took Him into the regions of the damned, before He could redeem us...Jesus went into hell to free mankind from the penalty of Adams high treason". If Jesus did not die spiritually this teaching is from the pits of hell. Comments

That teaching is from the pits of hell. The work for the payment of sin's debt was finished on the Cross when Jesus cried out with a loud voice "It is finished". Jesus did not go to hell, that is the lake of fire. I don't think that even the devil has been there yet.

The Bible says that humans are made of three parts: Body - earthsuit, Soul (mind, will, emotions), and Spirit - real, eternal you. Jesus becoming man has a spirit, but the spirit is the only part of a human that cannot die.

greetings.jesus never experienced a hint of spiritual death. This would normally be understood as extinction.Where Jesus was before Mary saw him the bible does not say.Although some scripture imply otherwise, Jesus never was at any time ,at the common belief ,seperated from his Father.Jesus saved a world that was lost ,not lost in a blanket of sin but a blanket of extreme confusion with no light to light the way for truth seekers.Jesus freed man from primitive thinking.

Also a spiritually dead man would not utter the words FATHER into YOUR hands I commend my spirit
---craige on 12/10/06

I Peter(3:18) says Jesus died in the flesh. In order to die spiritually you have to register unbelief toward God. The words "my God , my God, shows his faith was stiil in God . A spiritually dead person will not utter these words. Death was defeated at the cross, not in hell.He did go to hell but it was in a show of power and authority. He led captivity captive and made an open show of his power by having a triuphal victory parade.

"For you will not leave my soul in hell; neither will you allow your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life: in your presence, fulness of joy; at your right hand, pleasures for evermore...Fear not; I am the first and the last: I he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." Psalm 16:10,11; Acts 2:27,31; Revelation 1:17,18. Please read Matthew 12:38-41; I Peter 3:18,19; Matthew 27:52,53.

Mima, Find: "Did Jesus Go To Hell" located at: christianblogs (dot) christianet (dot) com / 1165284036.htm and read all the posts there!

It all depends upon what you mean by 'dying spiritually' and 'hell'!! In effect, though obviously not for eternity(!), He was separated from the Father (spiritual death) when taking upon Himself all our sin on the cross and then dying (cf. Matt.27:46; Jn.19:30; 1Pet.2:24). But if by 'hell' you mean a place for tormented lost souls, NO!

I believe that "spiritual death" is separation from God. I believe that when Christ said "my God, why has though forsaken me" he was experiencing that separation as the sins of mankind were placed on His shoulders. The Bible says that God can't look upon sin. I also believe that the Bible teaches that Christ did spend 3 days in hell. This is where he overcame death. He literally experienced what we were suppose to experience, but have now been saved from. This is the Good News!!

Jesus cannot die as long as God is alive!
Jesus died in the natural, like all of us will.
He endured death on the cross, painfully as did others in the Roman days.
Jesus' Soul walked into Hell, and took all SOUL's that would follow him, to Heaven; to his Father.
Jesus died in the flesh to save our souls which can never die.
The spirit which came from God returns to God whom gave it. Ecc 12:7
It is our souls that Jesus came to save, OUR INNER MAN. love david

Actually, He did die spiritually. Spiritual death is complete and total separation from God & He was. In Romans 8:29 Jesus is called the " Firstborn among many brethren". He was the First to be born-again.

Helen. Where do you see that hell is the lake of fire? I see hell being thrown into the lake of fire in Rev. 20:14. They are two distinct places until then.

I believe Jesus was All of God and had to die in every way and resurrect in every way to become that bridge to eternal life for us. Anything less would be a lie or a trick. I do NOT believe the rest of the "teaching" is scriptural but designed to meet condemnation requirements of a church hierarchy. I certainly do not believe Adam committed "high treason". 1Tim.2:14.
