Peace I leave you.

Likewise, peace be with you my friend.

Jed, good point you made. "The Love" for anything other then Christ is sin. It is evil. For anything without faith is sin. Very good point you made concerning the passage. Peace I leave you.
---Mark_V. on 10/26/11

money is the root of ALL evil. It is just something God has given us to help get us thru life. I can never understand why some people want more and more and more. Billionaires are not going to enjoy their money when they die.
---shira4368 on 10/25/11

Shira, don't mis-quote scripture. The Bible says that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, not money itself.
---Jed on 10/25/11

Jed, I'm sorry but the passage does not say what you stated. It reads,
"For the love of money is a root "of all kinds of evil"
Not all evil. All kinds of evil. -MarkV 10/12/11

MarkV, it seems to depend upon which translation you use. But my point was that nowhere in the Bible does it say money is the root of any kind of evil. It says the LOVE of money is. I was pointing out the difference between the love of money and money itself. My concern was not about whether it says "all" or "all kinds".

money is simply a tool ...to enjoy family children friends and experience life to the fullest ...also provide many good things for people who are without or struggling

religion has turned money into a sin which is why so many self-professing christians hate people who have money - TAUGHT to believe "rich people" are sinful for having more than enough

yet Solomon was the wisest and richest man alive BLESSED by The Father in Heaven ...the lesson wasn't his riches that took him away from GOD it was his pagan wives - Solomon began to serve pagan traditions

many serve money rather than having money serve them ...serving money making it first in one's life rather than GOD and family makes money the first love

Mark V: Yes, 'all evil' or 'all sin' seems to contradict other implications of the Bible.

But it seems that the comment in 1 Tim is quite strong.

In any case, whether it is 'many' or 'many types', the implication (and thus the order) remains the same - do not love money
---Peter on 10/13/11

Good stuff, nice to see us sourt through stuff respectfully. I even learned something new about the passage through the small exchange. Sometimes it seems we use so much sarcasm and screem so loud that know one hears what we are trying to actually say.
In His loving grip

Peter, very good work you did. I had to go back and look up my information closely this time. You are right, the word was added maybe because of the passage before 1 Tim. 6:10. which states,
"But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, "into many" foolish and harmful lust which drown men in destruction and perdition"
Here it says, "into many" not "into all sin"
That would be my guess. For it could not possibly mean "all evil"
Thanks for bringing it up and correcting me. I apologize to Jed for disageeing with him. Very good point.
---Mark_V. on 10/13/11

Mark V: When I read the original (the Greek version) the text does not actually HAVE the word 'kinds' - that was added because it is very hard to translate it in other ways. but the way I understand it, 'all kinds' is written to mean 'every sort' - the original may also be translated 'all evil'.

BUT we must remember that we can't take that alone, because there are many other things in the Bible listed as causes of evil.
---Peter on 10/12/11

Jed, I'm sorry but the passage does not say what you stated. It reads,
"For the love of money is a root "of all kinds of evil"
Not all evil. All kinds of evil. If it was the root of all evil then it would have been the evil that Adam encoundered. Which is what someone already mentioned. for the passage before says,
" But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and " into many foolish and harmful lust" which drown men in destruction and perdition" (V.9).
I don't believe anyone here gave the inclination that it was an excuse for anything. At least not yet. Peace

For those who like to twist this scripture to promote redistribution of wealth and socialism, please get the scripture right. It says the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, not money itself. A poor man can obsess over money just as much as a rich man can.
---Jed on 10/10/11

I agree with the people that stated that the love of money is the root to many kinds of evil---not that it is the root of all evil... If it is true that it was the root of all evil---it would have been the main reason or only reason that persuaded Adam to sin... Of course we know that money wasn't even in existence at that point... So the root of many evils is correct and any bible that say the root of all evils in not correct... Replacing a simple little word like many with all takes the scripture in a whole new direction...

The KJV says love of money is the root of all evil. Others say all kinds of evil. 2 different things. which one is right?
---danny on 12/22/09

It is the root of all evil. Also Unbelief is the root cause of sin. The love of Money causes temptation, lusts. Money doesn't do this. Riches are neither good or bad. It is the attitude toward them that is good or bad. Paul said in the word of God to Timothy, charge them that are rich to trust only in the living God and not in uncertain riches.>>>Put no confidence in the police, government, your money, your religion, your pastor or prophets, houses, cars, looks, education, friends.

The root of many evils. Look at our world today, people are willing to do anything for a dollar. Ripping the elderly off with all kinds of scams, beating others as well as murdering people so they can claim insurance money, etc. Our hope as christians is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is our refuge and our strength. Praise God!

Actually, 1 Timothy 6:10 reads "For the love of money is A root to all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (NIV) Therefore, while money is a root of evil, it is not the only root of evil, hence the seven deadly sins. Money can be used for good, through charitable works, but also, of course, for less Christian endeavors.

It was inspired & written in what I believe to be the word of God. I have no doubt that The Father knows what He is saying. As I write this I am searching my mind for any evil not motivated by some sort of greed or covetousness, I can not think of one. One may think, well, what about hate? Hate, if sincerely considered, can always be traced back to either a jealously induced covetousness, or frustration due to a perceived lack of or opportunity to prosper financially.

The love of money is the root of all evil. like a tree, evil stems from the love of money. The love of God is the root of all righteousness? The love of food is the root of obeasity? The love of alcohol is the root of alcoholism? The love of cigerretes it the root of lung cancer?

The love of money is the root of all evil because Scripture says so.

Jesus said:
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Money is not evil - it is the second most topic in the Bible, apart from love. God made it for the preaching of the Gospel. When you make money your god, and put it before the one true God, then it is evil.
---Leslie on 12/22/06

Money causes alot of evil in the world. The devil came to steal, kill and destroy and he is very clever at turning things around to his advantage. It is harder for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
(Some of the rich make their money by cheating the masses). People do ugly things with money but blessed are those who do what is right.

The love of money is the root of all evil because God's Word says so.
---Helen_5378 on 12/20/06

Either way, it's obvious that maney is the biggest snare that satan has. It makes me wonder why there are so many preachers , preaching "money cometh" gospel. Almost every preacher on TBN is telling you to send them money and God will make you rich

john I agree with Bruce here. The love of money is the root of ALL evil. I wish I could hold onto it long enough to just like it...but I don't. I give it away too quickly and that too can be a problem (people tend to take advantage and start to ASK me for money instead of waiting for me to GIVE it to them). So both ways can be evil, amen?
---Donna9759 on 12/14/06

The Amplified Bible says ...

For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs. (1 Timothy 6:10)
---DoryLory on 12/14/06

If you love money than you are loving something that is nothing. Nothing cannot love you back. If you give all your love to love(GOD), than you will be loved back. Not that you are not loved anyway, but you will not be aware of it if you love nothing. PEACE.
---Peter8365 on 12/14/06

A more literal translation is "A root of ALL kinds of Evil is the LOVE OF MONEY; which some longing after, wandered from the FAITH, and pierced Themselves around with many Sorrows". As the surrounding verses show, flee from the many things that can separate you from God.
