Exzucuh, where's the scipture where Jesus said that John was Elijah? I remember discussing this with one of my friends before but don't remember where it is?

The great cloud of witnesses are those prophets from the beginning that spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost bearing witness to Jesus. All of them the Apostles, prophets and just men made perfect. Whom, by the way Elijah was seen with moses on the mount and David spake by the Holy Ghost. They had it and don't need us as some teach amiss. There are too many scriptures that bear witness to prophets of old having the Spirit of God such as John the baptist who died before Christ was crucified.

The two witnesses are the Spirit and the Word a Spirit of Elijah that proves God his name means vehement wind, or spirit, the other witness is the Spirit of Moses or a savior giver of the word, Jesus is the Word, Jesus said John is Elijah that was to come he pointed the way to Jesus and testified he was Gods Son and Jesus saved all who believed on him, the Holy Spirit comes in Jesus name and testifies of the Son he draws men to Jesus and through Jesus they come to the Father.

Melanie, I John 4:2 "Every spiprit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God." So, if you feel that SDA is where you want to be you need only make sure that they believe that Jesus came in the flesh, died and rose again to save you from your sins. No religion is perfect. They are all wrong on one point or another. The point is that if any religion totally believes that Jesus is the Son of God, they will not ignore the things he taught.

Jana-how can we be encompassed about with ourselves?I believe the 2witnesses are the spirit and the word, which in a way can be viewed as the OT and the NT.I also believe "2" is not a litteral # here.I can't fathom how 2 ppl are going to be all over the world at once, unless of course that God does some miracle,He is good at that,ya know!

I meant what I said Faye, I have read all blogs including many arrogant ones. I have come to realise that the sdas speaks from the bible as I have checked everyone of them. EGW or no EGW, they go by the bible and the bible alone. I am joining their camp guys and am studying right now with one of them...its absolutely eye opening to the truth..

The 'cloud of witnessess' are those that have died before us who didn't obtain perfection, scripture is so clear why would this need to be discussed?'that THEY(witnessess)thru US may finally obtain it!
---chestnut_burr on 1/14/07|
Melanie, I'm not sure what you meant by that last response but it doesn't sound very Godly to me. Even if a brother is in error we're not supposed to argue over scripture. This forum is to learn and grow, not ridicule and condemn.
I apologize to any I have offended. It won't happen again.

The "great cloud of witnesses" is referring to the worthies of faith in Ch. 11 of Hebrews. The first word of 12:1 is "wherefore" which is referring to what was written previous to the this first verse. Their successful way of living is given to us as an inspiration and encouragement.

I believe this is talking about all those who have died in the faith (especially those mentioned in chapter 11). This does not neccessarily mean any of them can see us from heaven (I also have heard that) but means that their life IS a testimony of their faith. Just look at all they experienced because of their faith. With all that faith surrounding us how can we doubt?

The witness' are the Saint's, Prophets, Angels and those that belong to God. They are the perfect ones and nothing that this wicked system of things does today can condemn them.

Martyrs are witnesses: suffering Christians are encouraged by the lives of other martyrs for God. When we endure suffering and persecution for Christ, we take strength that we are not alone: first, Christ is with us in the tribulation along with the fellow-sufferers or witnesses that have gone on before us, namely, Christ himself, Noah, Joseph, Job, David, Steven, Peter, Paul, John, etc., and the parishoners and our fellow-members of the body of Christ today are also our co-witnesses together with us.

Jack - Just what are you on about? You said yourself below that the "cloud of witnesses" are those in Chapter 11!

** The cloud of witnesses are all the people of faith spoken of in the preceding Chapter i.e. Hebrews Chapter 11. It is not talking of people who can see us from heaven, which I have heard falsely preached.**
And just where do you suppose all these people witnessing us are?
Have you come to faith in the REAL Jesus yet, Helen?

It is us, you and me and every Christian, who are surrounded by many witnesses who are our spectators in the race.
As for the dead, they are truly dead, until the second coming of Jesus for it is written that when He returns the dead in Chist (meaning the believers) shall rise first and the living in Christ will follow. Blessed are they that are resurrected in the first resurrection.
---Steveng on 12/19/06|
Why, of course, Mark. There's no such thing as soul sleep (actually, soul extinction).
If there were not something conscious that survived death, of what use would Jesus's words, "Lazarus, come forth," or "Talitha, cumi" be?
Perhaps the little girl wasn't really dead, but Lazarus had begun to decompose.
---Jack on 12/19/06|
I believe the "witnesses" are those of the first resurrection. Those who arose when Jesus was crucified (see gospel). They would be the believers in God who are not "asleep". They are the ones who have obtained their theophony bodies ("if the house of this tabernacle be dissolved....").
---mikefl on 12/19/06|
Jack is absolutely right.
---Rickey on 12/19/06|
So you could essentially say all people who are in heaven, does this mean that when people die they immediately go to heaven, and its not like sleeping until the end of the world finally comes
---mark on 12/18/06|
The people mentioned in chapter 11.
Remember that the chapter and verse divisions are NOT in the original, but were added centuries later.
(You didn't think the writers considered the chapters as discrete units originally, did you?)
---Jack on 12/18/06|
Many believe it's the Old Testament saints and those who have gone on before us in the Lord.
I say it doesn't much matter, either way we are on the jumbotron in Heaven and that's really the point; all Heaven knows our works.
