Go to church and your guilt will vanish. Simple. Your family traditions were made to be broken! You most certainly will go to Hell if you choose to stay in your present position. Receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior...today. Tomorrow may be too late.
Simply pray:
Lord Jesus. I am sorry for my sins. I repent. I believe you died on the cross, was buried and rose from the grave. I make you my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart and save me. Amen

More:Read previous post. If you sincerely prayed this prayer. You have been born again. Welcome to the family.
Now you only need to find a good bible teaching church, be baptized and keep growing in the Lord.
---Robyn on 9/7/07

#2 Fellowship is a part of all these things. Find a small group (5-7) brothers and sisters who only seek truth. Question any message you hear coming from any pulpit and find the scriptural decree; no inference, no conjecture from general principal. A study of the bible is one of National Israel's history and how God has interacted with humanity over millennia.

Gabrielle Francis::While it is true That all you have stated will be taken into account Yet thereare a few deficiencies that would be an added feather in your cap,if, you so need to explore those avenues.Besides the 8 Beatitudes.

If you feel guilty about not going to church, why are you continuing to not go and add to your guilt feelings? Is your family custom of not going more imporatnt to you than what your own conscience is telling you?

In the first three centuries, a "Christianity" that did not express itself in worship with the local body would have seemed a contradiction in terms and even a sign of apostasy.

I agree with Mima. The mother of Jesus has nothing to do with salvation and she cannot pray for anyone. We must go through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross to be saved.
---Susie on 12/28/06

Gabrielle, If you live in an area where there is a church that teaches the Word of God faithfully, then what do you do with Hebrews 10:25? This passage doesn't necessarily teach that you have to go to "church" but it does command gathering with other believers. No one is going to be able to stand alone, we are intended to be a part of the "body of Christ."
---tommy3007 on 12/27/06

Mima::Read the whole text it May change your idea.To turn the text against the mother of Jesus is NOT an option. Some men may turn against their Mothers but not her son Remember the marriage feast of Canna.

If you feel guilty then you need to get into a good-solid, spirit filled church. What is the reasons behind you not wanted to go to church? I believe that when a person becomes born again, God gives them a desire to attend church. Start seeking for a desire. Also the only things that will send you to hell is rejecting Jesus Christ and blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.
---Rebecca_D on 12/27/06

Mima ... Your ill-will towards the RCC ill-becomes you.
In the context of this blog, and of all previous comment on it, your comment is irrelevant, and malicious.

I can't imagine life without attending church everytime it is open! I know what my life was back before Jesus! I don't want that life again! I need the fellowship of my Christian brothers and sisters and I need lifted up in praise and worship and preaching that I get when I go to church! Even tonight! Wednesday nights just helps me make it the rest of the week.
---Susie on 12/27/06

Perhaps when Jesus stated" he who is not with me is against me" was referring to those who are praying to Mary rather to his father in his name. Just an idea.
---Mima on 12/27/06

Megan, as you can see there are many different beliefs on church and whether it's necessary to go or not. I think God is calling you to investigate your options. Visit different churches, see if there is one you feel at home with. Just like the people here churches are different, some you may like and some not. It's important to feel good about the church because otherwise you won't want to attend. Jesus would want you to go freely because you want to - not out of obligation.

You will not go to hell for "not going to church". You, and the rest of us, will go to hell for our sins. It is sin (hatred, laziness, greed, lust, selfishness, rudeness, etc.) that has earned us a ticket to hell, and the only way to exchange it for heaven is through Jesus. What is going to happen to you? I think that you are a Christian waiting to be born and that you will receive eternal life. Church will come naturally after that.

Going to church does not make you a Christian - just like standing in a garage does not make you a car. Only accepting Christ into your heart as Lord & Savior will make you a Christian. Sometimes you can get closer to God without church (with all its hypocricy), then you can have God's spirit teach you Himself. Nothing bad will happen to you. The church is a place to fellowship with other believers. Those believers can make you stronger in your walk with God, but they cannot save you.
---Leslie on 12/26/06

It's never to late. Find a good New Testament, Holy Spirit filled Christian church, and just start going. Most cities have at least one church, and they commonly open on Sundays and some weekdays or nights. If you find a good one, you will probably get blessed, that's what will happen to you. And that is a good thing, and never any guilt or shame comes with God's blessing. I suggest an Apostolic church, or an Assembly of God, or any good Pentecostal church. Just go for it, and lose yourself in Jesus.
---Eloy on 12/26/06

Megan::It's sad, in this age there are some who do not go to Jesus house of Prayer, for it is written "He who is not with me is against me" The feelimg of guilt you are experienceing is a Prompting you are receiving, in view of the fact that your inward prayer to seek the lord is genuine. For He again said "Come to me you who are heavily burdened & I will refresh you".The fear of Hell is a good thing as it makes us realise that that there is a life everlasting in the here after.
---Emcee on 12/26/06

I don't go to church regularly. I spoke with the Lord in prayer and stated that I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior (I did not need any church or "man" of God to do a ritual for me) and I live my life according to what the Bible says I will be judged on ie Loving my neigbor, feeding and clothing those in need, visiting the sick and those in prison...I believe that is what God wants.

Going to church is not "consumption"! Going to church is a "mission". You will meet many Christians who still don't understand the meaning and the importance of Christ. Going to church, doesn't make someone a Christian! When you go every day in a garage, you never will change into a car too.
---ernst3769 on 12/26/06

Self-study will carry you to a point. There is a blessing from God that comes when you join yourself with other Christians. If you don't care for the Body of Christ here on earth, what are you planning for the hereafter? TV and nature are not the Body of Christ. If you are handicapped and cannot leave the home, that's another story. I believe there is a corporate blessing when you assemble together with believers. Very special.
---Joel on 12/26/06

True it's not how you attend chuch that saves you,but we are to attend-- whenever jeus was in town he always was in the synagogue, & if he was there so should we be in our church when we can--.
---hope3895 on 12/26/06

Megan; Please consider Linda's answers. You can do this alone and you can confess to friends. Attending the physical church will be possible later in life I feel sure.

Lots of people attend church and are still going to hell. What matters is whether or not you are born again. Read the entire third chapter of John in the Bible and you will see what I mean. It isn't about church attendance. It's about Jesus Christ and you accepting Him as your Savior.
---Susie on 12/26/06

Megan, Contrary to popular belief, "going to church" is NOT the most important issue in any person's life. The first thing you need to do is realize that you, along with everyone else, are a sinner and need to be forgiven and restored to a fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. This happens by hearing what the Bible says about God and our standing with Him, and believing that Jesus Christ IS the "only begotten" of the Father. See Part 2
---tommy3007 on 12/26/06

Part 2: After you have repented of your sins, and received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then you can concern yourself about whether or not you go to church. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to return to a right relationship with God. Without being completely surrendered to Him, and receiving His freely offered gift of life, we would all be doomed to hell. Church doesn't save you, only Jesus Christ can do that. All church can do is present the Gospel, if the pastor teaches the whole counsel of God.
---tommy3007 on 12/26/06

A person that forsakes the assembleing is in violation of the will of God if you are not attending a service you should be having one at home and evangelizing, if not you need to be in church, church is for edification and praise and worship, if you are not doing this yourself and encouraging others to join you you are backslid or not saved. A person that is truly saved has a desire to be part of the body of Christ. Jesus said when the world sees the love of Christian fellowship they believe on him.

Attending church has no bearing on where you will go when death comes. If you're born again your going to God's kingdom. If your're not born again no amount of church attendance will help you to see God' although it may point the way to salvation. If you feel guiltty, then the Holy Spirit is probably trying to get you to go, and you would be wise to do so.

Sue ::There is only ONE TRUE church.Jesus said when ever two or MORE are gathered together in my Name I am there amongst them; how much more effective if its the true church.!!!!!
---Emcee on 12/25/06

**Wherever I find myself close to God is my church.**

Christianity isn't about feelings. It's about facts.

One of those facts is "forsake not the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some."
---Jack on 12/25/06

My humble opinion on this is that I once felt the same guilt because I didn't go to church, so I went to church, didn't like it at all and ended up feeling guilty about that. There are some very good pastors I see on tv. Also, church is just a building. Wherever I find myself close to God is my church.

---linda on 12/24/06

We do not know what tomorrow holds. If you want to know where you are going make Jesus your Lord and Saviour .Realize you are a sinner ,and believe in your heart Jesus is Lord ,ask Him to forgive you for your sins cleanse with His shed blood , and tell Him you decide to turn away from sin with his help and ask come into your heart and be your Lord and Saviour.Believe Jesus died on the cross for you and that God raised Him from the dead and confess it with your mouth to Him .Then confess to others .
---linda on 12/24/06

Megan what has happened is the Holy Spirit is convicting you of sin. That's his job.

If convicted then you hear God's voice, and Jesus said "my sheep hear my voice."

God has claimed you as his own and your salvation is only dependent on whether or not you choose in faith to follow the Lord and accept his promise.

He gave you life, but it will return to him, will you give it freely or have it taken away?
---Pharisee on 12/24/06

The bible warns about not forsaking assemblies; this does not necessarily mean going to a building every Sunday. Within the Holy Scriptures there is a much more persistent message of: submission, obedience and study.
