Kandace,
If the person in mind is a relative or friend, over the course of having known them already, you should have some idea of what might be a "stumbling block" to their believing in Jesus; then research that, along with other points.
IF you want to witness to 'almost strangers' or 'cold' to people you'll likely never see again, maybe a good flyer that lists many of the prophecies Jesus fulfilled or something like that; possibly ask Jews for Jesus for advice too.

Jews have long been persecuted by "so-called Christians". Jeff was right when he said if you want to reach them, learn more about their traditions, become Torah observant and teach them about who Y'shua really is. They can understand Y'shua, they don't care about Jesus. There are wonderful Jewish traditions and they could have so much meaning to the gentiles in regards to the Scritpures if only allowed - Torah, Tenakh and Brit Chadashah - Books of Moses, rest of OT and NT.

After all, the Bible was written by Jews. Don't you think it would be good to understand more about them to be able to have a better understanding of the Scriptures? There are lots of wonderful nuggets that come from the scriptures that are hidden in "Jewish Tradition".

From a Jewish perspective. Jesus to them is basically a gentile god (3 of them). Y'eshua, Y'shua, Y'oshua, Y'shua would get there Jewish attention along with a little 'non'Christian Hebrew for starters, like "Shabbat Shalom".

The all Jewish church birthed on Pentecost, knew a lot about us Goye's/gentiles, we know little about them. Therein is your answer, plus "Christ In You, the Hope of Glory".

Visit good Messianic websites, remembering Jews witnessed to us 1st!

**And yes, I agree, it would be very wrong (and ironic) for Jews who reject Jesus as Messiah (and can't have the Spirit in them) to say they know more about Him than all His disciples.**

BINGO! You've got it!

** Some individual Believers though, could sure use some history/culture lessons! ;-)**

That's true, too. Frequently they read the Bible, especially the OT, through a late 20th-early 21st century filter.

Jack: So you DID mean for your first post to be taken as somewhat 'sarcastic'; but that you didn't want it to imply anything about 'jeff' (whom you quoted). I think you should have done at least a 2-part post to begin with then. And yes, I agree, it would be very wrong (and ironic) for Jews who reject Jesus as Messiah (and can't have the Spirit in them) to say they know more about Him than all His disciples. Some individual Believers though, could sure use some history/culture lessons! ;-)

AlwaysOn: Well put (btw, the Rosens started 'Jews for Jesus'). That's very much what I was 'driving at' in the first post here. LEARN what problems each INDIVIDUAL might have with Christ; if you can, then attempt to deal with them personally (if knowledgable enoguh), or: simply BE AND ACT as you should for Christ, so they see your witness in your life! SAME is true for anyone trained in debating what they think is wrong with our Faith (J.W.s, Mormons, etc.)!
---danie9374 on 12/31/06

The book 'Encyclopedia of Biblical Difficulties' by Gleason Archer jr. is good book to help deal with tough issues Jews might have.

Correcting myself in my 12/29 blog...Cecil Rosen is actually Ceil Rosen...sorry about that.
---AlwaysOn on 12/30/06

**I now know you did NOT mean for any of it to be 'sarcastic' as I'd thought, but it leaves me wondering WHY YOU said "Jews without the Holy Spirit know more about Jesus than the Christian Church with the Spirit"? Do you mean on some PHYSICAL or HISTORICAL LEVEL?**

I'm talking about the foolishness of the notion that people (including Jews) can know ANYTHING worthwhile about Jesus Christ without the Holy Spirit, which presupposes faith in Christ to start with.
---Jack on 12/30/06

In Witnessing to Jews by Moishe and Cecil Rosen one of the first of many suggestions given is not to classify all Jews the same as many believe and practice (or don't practice) differently (therefore your approach may differ with each person). Also, not to debate Christ with an Orthodox Jew as they're trained to resist and debate Christianity going and coming...tell them the Good News and leave the debate to, perhaps, another Messianic Jew who was also trained to resist, but came to accept the Messiah.

Jack, OK you didn't intend for anyone to take your post the way I did, but it certainly APPEARED that way to me. I now know you did NOT mean for any of it to be 'sarcastic' as I'd thought, but it leaves me wondering WHY YOU said "Jews without the Holy Spirit know more about Jesus than the Christian Church with the Spirit"? Do you mean on some PHYSICAL or HISTORICAL LEVEL? Or do you believe Jews can actually be SAVED without believing in Jesus as Divine Messiah who died for their sin?
---danie9374 on 12/29/06

** jeff: Though I def. wouldn't put it the way Jack did (his quote of you and what he said after it, implies you're def. not 'saved'),**

No such implication was ever intended, nor is it even there.
---Jack on 12/28/06

jeff: Though I def. wouldn't put it the way Jack did (his quote of you and what he said after it, implies you're def. not 'saved'), your comment did cause me to wonder whether you are or not. Are you relying solely on Yeshua's atoning sacrifice for your sins, or do believe you must add 'good works' of your own (and never stumble in keeping the Law) in order to be with God after you die? I pray that you truly have understood the Gospel and have committed your life to Yeshua for your salvation!

**stop being a christian and come back to the jewish faith and learn who the messiah is, not what the church says he is.**

Isn't it interesting how Jews without the Holy Spirit know more about Jesus than the Christian Church with DOES have the Holy Spirit?

Think about it.

(I don't think artistic and cultural conventions were eiven from Mt. Sinai. Was this a big discovery for you?)
---Jack on 12/26/06

Many will say the Jew has suffered so much that we should not witness to them. The overly zealous Christian doing more harm than good. I love the Jew and Israel. God's Word is not equal with the traditions of men. God's Word is above tradition. It is relationship.

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Messiah), for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Rom 1:16

Joel 2:32
And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.
For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance (salvation),
As the Lord has said,
Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

Joel 3:2
I will also gather all nations,
And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
And I will enter into judgment with them there
On account of My people, My heritage Israel...

Zechariah 8:23
Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."

The former rain (Spirit of God on the Jewish people)
The latter rain (Spirit of God on Christians)
will come down at once. Joel 2:23.
When the two "rains" pour together, there will be a harvest of souls that will be saved. God promises this miracle.

End-time revivals cannot be worked up in the flesh. God brings the revival.

God has the appointed time to reach Israel. The Holy Spirit destroys the yokes of unbelief.

Isa. 10:27
It shall come to pass in that day
That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder,
And his yoke from your neck,
And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. (Holy Spirit)

Start being observant of Torah, learn the traditions, stop being a christian and come back to the jewish faith and learn who the messiah is, not what the church says he is. Share Yeshua not jesus, there is a huge difference b/w the real messiah Yeshua and the church messiah jesus. There was an orthodox jew last name of Lichtenstein, who believed in Yeshua and he once saw Yeshua and Peter in a vision. He said he looked nothing like what the church thinks but looked like a yemenite jew.

Kandace; I believe the best way to deal with that Orthodox Jews is to tell them about prophecy in the Bible concerning Israel. Tell them we do not believe in three separate Gods, but rather one God made up of three separate persons.
