How important is the Word of God in your life? In a church service, if there is a great move of the Spirit, should the Word of God be set aside, or should it be preached regardless?

1 Peter 1:24-25

24For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

If there is a great move of the Spirit in any Church it is a Move of the WORD of God. The Word is Living and power and sharper then a two edge sword. I can't imaging the Holy Spirit trying to up-stage the Word( Jesus Christ). This is how we test the spirits to see if they are of God...anything that contradicts or up-stages, the Word, is not of God. Including false prophecies that give times, dates and places.

I believe the Word of God should be preached after the moving of the Spirit has finished. The Word is what gets people saved. I've also seen too many preachers who let the "Spirit" get away because they were not prepared to preach.

It really depends, lately I have seen a lot of manipulation in Churches. Sometimes you will have people falling out, dancing, shouting, and jumping around just for show. If the Pastor is not discerning the whole service could be lost. In liberal churches this is often a factor that needs to be considered. I believe if the Holy Spirit is moving the whole congregation will be in aw and completly surrendered to the will of the Holy Spirit. There won't be any doubt about it.

There have been times I've been in a church service where the spirit was moving so great and so powerful, the preacher didn't need to preach. But there were also times, where the spirit is moving great and powerful that the spirit gives the preacher a message to be preached on. The word is very important. Even if there were no preaching, the word still stands.

Woe unto me if I don't preach the Word. Woe unto me if I don't preach and teach the whole counsel of God. Woe unto me if I don't preach and teach all that He has given to me in its entirity. Woe unto me it I do it in my own strength and don't allow Him to do it through me. I am nothing and can do nothing if Jesus doesn't do through me.

Just because someone is preaching does not mean the word is going forth, and a Man giving the word is not above the Holy Spirit the letter killeth but the Spirit gives life, not by might or Power but by my Spirit saith the Lord. The Word is for conformation the Spirit does everything.

Jesus is the Word of God. The Word of God appears in the Old Testament only 4 times.
Scripture and the Word of God are not the same. Christians are under the 63 commandments of the New Testament, not the 10 commandments of the Old Testament. Jesus fulfilled all scripture of the OLd Testament.

Thank you for all of your comments. The Word of God is essential. The Word says that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all Truth. The written Word of the Bible is alive and is able to change lives, to grow us up in Christ, the Word of His grace is able to give us an inheritance. A move of the Spirit will prepare our hearts to receive the Word with knowledge and understanding. The annointed Word must always be given out.

debbie, only Gods word.the holy spirit will bring to remembrance the things of the saved ,we must apply the word to our lives ALL OF THE WORD.after 35 odd years I eat meat.

Without the Word of God you do not receive the God of the Word. No one can know the mind of God without learning God's Word for it is the Word which gives us the will of God for humankind. There will be no great move of the Spirit without the Word of God. All of God's directions are linked to the Word and we must know that before we recognize the Spirit at all. God's Word first, mans obedience to that Word, and then a move of the Spirit. They are all intertwined.

The "word of God" is very important. If anyone teaches that the Spirit of God overrides the word of God, then they are wrong. Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would teach them all things about God the Son. The Holy Spirit is important, but, only as a guide into deeper understanding of the word. As one pastor stated, "All Word, and you dry up, all Spirit, and you blow up." You have to have a balance of both.

The Word of God IS life. Everything else is fluff (that stuff clouds are made of). As for the "moving of the Spirit"; God's Word will enhance it. The two will work together not set one aside . If it does, it is not His spirit...beware. Study church order about spirits. God will never displace God. His Word will keep order in the Church, not conflict. Just as if a pastor is preaching & someone interrupts with tongues or praise, that is conflict & out of order. All things of God will be in order!
