There is a difference between childlike and childish in the Lord.

Fifty year olds can presume they are childlike but are really childish in the Lord.

Childish -
Lacking complexity
Annoying qualities
Lack of 'common' sense

Childlike -

Trusting - trustful
Lack of guile
Eager to believe
Full of Faith

Good question David. Growth does happen faster and slower with certain people. Maturity can also be high concerning one thing and low concerning another. I know a fellow who evangelizes all over the world full time. He got saved in prison and immersed himself in the Lord and started preaching 3 years later. He has won over a million people to the Lord and has crowds of over 100,000 regularly.

Yes, this causes many disagreements. Experience, which is also part of maturity, is lacking in many who quickly jump into big projects alone. The younger you are in the Lord the more you need to take good advice and partner with people who have been there before.

#1 Spiritual growth is dependant on the the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. When we are born again we are like babes and need the milk of the Word. Many Christians that have been saved for years are still on the milk. If we are to grow we have to get off the milk and into the meat of the Word. Also, you can not just feed on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights and Wednesday nights. You must be in the Word everyday, not just reading but studying and meditating and digesting the good meat .

#2 I know a person that for a time in her life spent much time in the Word and she grew by leaps and bounds. Then circumstances came and she didn't eat near as often or near as much. During a time of prayer, she was praying about her condition. The Lord spoke to her heart and revealed to her that she was still as tall as she has ever been in the Spirit, but she was very very skinny. Just like our natural man must be fed to survive, so it is with our Spirit man. He too must be fed to remain strong.

(I.)"If you are only 5 years old in the Lord, are you a child?" ---Not necessarily, It depends on how much the person responds/yields to the Holy Spirit. There are some Christian's that mature very quickly, because they truly humble themselves to God, yield to Him "full-time", always honoring His way, they have their ears open to Him. Then there are some that are slow to learn.

(II.)But as far as those who continually resist the Spirit after salvation, they become hardened, eventually lose their salvation, and will never learn(because they forever resist the Holy Spirit), as long as they keep going down that wide rebellious stubborn road of destruction(Proverbs 14:12)( Proverbs 16:25).Only one narrow holy Calvary-Road leads to Heaven, Jesus said, and FEW walk it . Resisting the Spirit is resisting Calvary(Acts 7:51)(2 Timothy 3:7). God Bless!

greetings.Born again is the faith realization that you are a son of God and want to be like your Father. How many will never come to that realization? It could be said that all the apostles were born again at their adult ages. Through Jesus' tutoring, short as it was, eleven are still talked about today for having tremendous courage in the arms of death. Spiritual maturity is faith tested .Living through all of life's sorrows is the spiritual maturity proving ground for all.Who will bail?

Your growth depends totally upon you. The more you seek the truth, and fill yourself up with the Word of God, the more you will come to the knowledge of God and if you do it every day, the quicker you will come. Stay on your knees every night and spend lots of time in prayer. Spend lots of time studying the Word of God. And let GOD show you the truth, for He is The way, the truth and the Life. I was dating someone 5 years old in the Lord; I was 21 years old in the Lord and it caused MANY disagreements.

I have seen young christians demonstrate a maturity far beyond their senior counterparts. I have seen old christians remain immature.

Knowledge of the word is directly related to the effort that is put into study of the word. However, there are some who, while very knowledgable about the content of the word itself remain unskillful in the use of the word. Hebrews 6:12-14
