It is true that Jesus came to fulfill the Law and not to abolish it but this pertains to the 10 Commandments/law of Moses. If this were not so, the law of circumcism whould not have been hated by Christ. He hated the Pharisees,Sadducees and scribes who held fast to the many laws found in Lev. which were often laws of the land, man made or simply to keep order at the time that they were in effect. They do not apply now.

Christ brought the law beyond the linear and literal. Magnified to a new level. Angry without cause:-murder, etc.
Piercings must be brought out of the cobwebs of theology and understood in the spirit of the law.

Actually nurse robert that is biblical...Matthew 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them"

Christ fulfilled the Law; He did not do away with it. ---Bulldog on 2/4/07

Bulldog, then this means that I can own slaves (as long as they are not from the US (Lev 25:44), I can sell my daughter into slavery (Ex 21:7) and Im not allowed to trim my beard (Lev 19:27)...

PART ONE:
Charleen,
Those who say that the bible forbids piercings quote the OT law to make their point (Lev 19:28) yet invariably they do not keep the complete OT law themselves. Besides, what is being forbidden is the use of body modifications as the heather used for religious purposes.

Our bodies belong to God, and there is a scripture in Leviticus speaking of putting marks on your body.

Christ fulfilled the Law; He did not do away with it. We do not sacrifice, because Christ is the sacrifice, but we still need to discern between what is good and what is evil. When one tattoos or pierces the body, s/he is saying, "This is mine, and I can do whatever I want with it." This is not true. (I Cor. 6:19-20).

Body piercing comes of pagan ritual.

I had my ears pierced b4 I came 2 know God. Now I know what the bible says, I cant understand why others b4 me would do such when God has given us perfect bodies that need no decorations whatsoever. Only christian women that dont wear jewellery r SDA women n Muslims n JWs. Why, cos they go by the bible teachings. If some still wear them, they r not true followers.

WELL, I cannot speak for them. BUT I do believe that it is wrong. GOD might let the ear slide, I don't know for sure, HE may. HE would never let me do body piercing HE might would allow me to do my ear. WE have got to get to know GOD, folks.

A lack of love, trust and obedience to the Lord in our heart can be displayed or manifested with body piecing on the outside. Except of course earrings and nose rings which are scriptural.

Doesn't God look at our hearts though? He doesn't look at us the way man does. What do we have on our physical body that can corrupt our hearts unless we allow them to?

I don't understand. I have posted to this blog twice and neither has been posted.

Your problem comes when you are witnessing and the unsaved has family members saved and they challenge you for witnessing to them covered in Gold and trinkets and they explain that they themselves will have no use for their wearing of Gold/jewelry/piercings/tatoos etc.. because they want to make a clean change in their lives inwardly and outwardly, their understanding is that they come to Jesus as they are, but without the vanity they so valued as a sinner.

then you have some explaining to do, like expressing that most Christians now wear what they like there is No Law. Or you feel blessed because not only are you a good example and you have no chains hold back your testimony or excuse when the story gets too complicated to explain like why some Christians wear Ear-rings, short skirts, trousers, make-up, tattoos, piercings just like them really. So what's the real difference if they can't see it. Those are the issues!

Proverbs 25:12 says As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Maybe earrings on a woman signifies a desire towards her husband and being obediant to him. And, maybe that woman is a type and shadow of the church that should heed the reproofs of instruction and hear the Lord and be obedient to him. His doctrine, not theirs. Maybe they should seek his spiritual meanings to his word and take their focus off this world and carnal foolishness.

It is an issue as to whether you believe we still live under the old covenant or not. I do not believe we do. In Exodus there is a scriptuer that says not to mark your bodies with piercings or tatooing. Personally I believe we are free from that rule because we live under the new covenant since Christ died and rose again. But that is a whole nother issue.

Body piercing in Bibical days symbolizes slavery. Christian womens were slaves to their husbands.

We are not bound to those laws any longer. One asked what's the point? Well whats the point in shaving or wearing make-up? It is a preference. It is nothing more than jewelry to me. If you like piercings then get them. I do think we need to be careful to not be worldy but a man knows his intentions when getting a piercing. I do think we (females) need to be careful to not get peircings to draw attention in an impure way.
---Michelle on 1/12/07

One Christian writer of centuries past suggested that the clacking or other nocis made by earrings were a visible and audible reminder that a married woman would hearken to no man's voice other than her husband's.

The same OT. law that says not to pierce or cut the body also says not to shave your beard or wear clothing with 2 kinds of material and commands circumcision and abstinence from certain meats. This same law required animal sacrifices to deal with sin. We have been liberated from these laws. Piercing is not wrong but it's also not really necessary is it?

Christians are going to do and go through some things that are culturally acceptable that may not be appropriate, No man ever fully understands God's mercy even those who have understanding, they merely receive it and then know.

1Co 3:12 And if anyone builds on this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, grass, straw,
1Co 3:13 the work of each will be revealed; for the Day will make it known, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire will prove the work of each, what sort it is.
