Salvations Based On Obedience

If this scripture" For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." is true, why then do we insist that our salvation our righteousness depends on our obedience?

NO, our righteousness depends on he who is and was obedient unto death.

Good question.

I never said anything about being perfect. I said obedience.
I never said I was perfect either.
And in my FLESH, I am not perfect and never will be.
But as long as I walk after the Spirit of God, he promises I won't sin.
That is a promise made by GOD himself that he fulfills right now..
He says anyone who walks after HIM, WILL NOT SIN! (this is future tense by the way)does not say has/have not(past tense).
Anyone who does not believe this promise is walking in a lie and calling God a liar.
They are walking defeated.
I would appreciate it if people would stop putting words into my mouth. And read and believe ALL of the Bible not just bits and pieces taught by a murderer.

Because those who do not join Christ's obedience remain in their disobedience. Christ says: "Whosoever does not bear THEIR CROSS, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. If any desires to come after me, let that one deny themself, and take up THEIR CROSS, and Follow me." Christ told the rich man who wanted to be with him to sell all he had and give it to the poor, and then he can be with him, but the rich man would not let his riches go to help the poor, and therefore he went away departing from Jesus in weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Look, I am not trying to sound harsh by any means and I am not teaching works for salvation.
What I am saying is that we should be loving our neighbors and I don't just mean the person next door.
If Christ is growing in us, and God is sovereign in our lives, we should have the fruits of God's spirit in us and it should be manifested in us, be seen by the lost. God doesn't just save the lost at a whim(he does but that is not his only way). God uses HIS spirit that he places in us when we get saved to shine on people to let them see the goodness of God. He definitely use his WORD(The Bible)being preached through out the world.
God shows his love by giving us grace, we show our love by obeying him.
---miche3754 on 6/12/10

Miche, the fact remains that everyone who talks about perfect obedience like you, Rhonda and Francis are sinners youselves who cannot keep the Law. You talk and talk about what the others do when you youselves sin over and over every single day. You might think you are perfect but you will never be perfect until you receive your new bodies. Every genuine Christian already knows what the Scriptures teach how to become more like Christ.
You suggest for others to be perfect when you are not perfect yourself. In fact when you teach false doctrines you are sinning. Every time you call someone a name you are sinning. If you are without sin, throw the first stones, and you have. Claiming sinlessness. That you have arrived. Just another sin.

The Bible is THE Instructions is to all of mankind on how to walk, talk, and act... BECOME LIKE CHRIST!

If you aren't following those instructions given by the Bible, God's own words ... Then he is not sovereign in your life... You are just paying lip service ... talking the talk BUT not walking the walk.....IF you aren't submitting to God and becoming like Christ... YOU ARE LOST!

That is the FULL TRUTH!

Go ahead and listen to defeated Christians who say "I can't do" or "it's impossible".
According to God's word, you can and it is.

Amen Francis

Acts 5:32
And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him

ONLY those who OBEY God are given his Holy Spirit

even the Apostles understood they MUST OBEY God Acts 5:29

religious christianity is forever taking ONE VERSE and twisting it to fit their fancy and they do so under the guidance of the god of this world 2Corin 4:4

amusing how religious christianity instructs their young to obey their parents YET openly disobey God

how do you OBEY a mortal human being and accept a religious position to disobey dismiss and ignore your creator The Father in Heaven as if HIS LAWS were of lesser importance than one's parents rules
---Rhonda on 6/11/10

How many of you would take someone to your fathers house if you know before hand that that person would not obey the rules of your fathers house?

Do you think Jesus would take people to his Fathers house who he knows by their actions are not obeying God today, and thus would not obey the Laws of His Fathers house?

While salvation is by grace through faith, only those who obey can received it.

Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him,

Mark
I was referring to those that maybe backslid etc fell away from & died without God.
A backslider etc has a chance to return to God if they havn't been turned over to reprobate mind etc.

Those that were in Truth,

then left & went to a Man-made relig-org beginning with the rcc & her offspring churches. Even that includes the god of buddha, alla, hindu etc came from here 2ndCor.11 v's 14 - 15, there's No hope or chance. Because these Man-made relig-org'd churches in this paragraph do NOT belong to God.

Miche, It is not for me to make you understand the Sovereignty of God, that revelation has to come from God through the Holy Spirit and you might never be revealed this truth. For not everyone gets that revelation. First thing you should do is, never pray to God to save anyone, you do not believe that at all. In your theology God has no power over man. Second, remember when you are at the gate, will you say, Lord I chose you, and have been obedient to your laws, let me in"
or, are you going to say, "Thank you Lord for having mercy on me a sinner and bringing me to the Knowledge of Jesus Christ, I am not worthy of your salvation, my righteousness are as filthy rags."
Take your pick.
---MarkV. on 6/11/10

Lawrence, I believe you took it a little to far here with your answer. From what I have read you are very much against the Roman Catholic Church. That's understandable.
"Still another aspect when The Lord says, I know you not, is when that person was in The Salvation of God & then backslid still thinking all's okay in his or her sinful doings"
Do you not think that if they were saved, and then backslid to sin, God would have never say, I never knew you. He would be lying if He said such a thing. He saved them in the first place and then condemned them as you say, He would surely have known them. So if He didn't know them, it was because they were never saved to begin with.
---MarkV. on 6/10/10

Miche -- //We have to tell ALL of the truth//
The TRUTH is, when we submit ourselves to Jesus we WILL begin to manifest His nature...not all the time, not perfectly... but the closer we stay to Him, the more we become like Him. (bear in mind that some who call themselves "Christian"
don't really know Him at all).
It's not a "self-improvement" project. We don't need daily warnings about what we shouldn't do (or SHOULD do)...if we dig into the Word to understand HIM better, we'll find out.

The baby duck doesn't need lectures on how to walk or quack or "look" like a duck. Awkward as he may be, He IS a duck. His walk and quack improves all the time, because he keeps his eyes on his parent.
---Donna66 on 6/10/10

Donna66, I wanted to put your name on my last post but didn't have enough room. You are correct and so is Debbie Jo. You mentioned the same as I did only a little different. On the Omniscience of God I believe that many have a different God altogether. Someone who doesn't know what to do with His creation. People are going to sin no matter what. Even in thoughts or in sins of omission. Its the sinful nature. If Paul, who face the power of God could not stop doing the things he did not want to do, or we any better then him?
All this talk about righteousness when all that covers them is the righteousness of God. If you removed that, you would only see sin. It is as you say their excuse, that it is a license to sin, maybe a license to them.
---MarkV. on 6/10/10

Amen Mima!
I say active Christian because Jesus tells us to let our light SHINE! Be a beacon to the Lost.
Are we talking to people, witnessing?
Are we standing for God when we are going through trials/tribulations in our lives?
Are you SHOWING! that you have faith in God and know that he will bring you through the valleys and be with you on the mountain top.
If we are out doing the same things as the Lost, how can we witness to them? We can't.
We can't be a beacon to the lost, if we are doing the same things as the lost.
I have been told this.. if it looks like a duck, walks a duck, quacks like a duck, IT IS A DUCK!
If you look like the lost, walk like the lost, talk like the lost, YOU are LOST!
---miche3754 on 6/10/10

Debbie Jo is correct, my answer to Micha,
Micha, great answer. I believe where Eloy and others fails to understand is what I had mentioned every believer should do. Learn the Attributes, character and nature of God first before answering passages. When many answer they go against or speak against who God is.
God knows all things, He is Omniscience. He would not save someone, and later learned that someone sinned and has to take different measures and send him to hell for sinning. He already knows every sin you will do in your life. He never learns new things. Learning as time moves.
He would have to change every time people change. He never makes mistakes. He knows who will believe and who will not. It's all before Him. He is God.

"only those who have ACTIVE Faith are gonna make it in, finish the race. Jesus is going to call them Brother, Sister!"

This statement by miche reminds me of something that had to me and my witnessing buddy in South Texas. He was witnessing to a man in a restaurant where we were eating breakfast. When suddenly the man said to him(later we found that he was a preacher) oh you men are ACTIVE Christians. And we both thought the word ACTIVE was very interesting to use in conjunction with Christians.

Another aspect at the judgment seat of God is, I never knew you, to bow your knee at an alter to receive My Salvation.
Still another aspect when The Lord says, I know you not, is when that person was in The Salvation of God & then backslid still thinking all's okay in his or her sinful doings, even if they have went to the Man-made relig-org's churches beginning with the rcc that is here Matt.15 v 9 & that came from here 2nd.Cor.11 v's 14 - 15 & is NOT okay, because scripture says here in 2nd.Peter 2 v 21.

A lot of people are gonna hate it when they get to the door and say "Lord, Lord" and Jesus is going to say....
"Depart from me you workers of iniquity, I NEVER KNEW YOU!"
Let's tell the truth.

Only those who have ACTIVE Faith are gonna make it in, finish the race. Jesus is going to call them Brother, Sister!

Unless of course you get saved on your death bed.

We have to tell ALL of the truth, not the watered down version. Would you want watered down soda pop? Or stale cookies? I know I wouldn't

Debbie jo -- Your posts are very good and very true. God is in charge of our salvation. We just trust Him. Nothing we do (or don't do) will change God's mind about us. Some people hate to hear about "Grace" because they can't believe you don't want to use it as an "excuse" to sin.
(I've found that people who want to sin, don't ever really need an excuse!)

"Let me guide you", saith the Lord thy God. Good Samaritan>>Reading one of your responses, Miche3754, reminded me of the one day when two men had been working on the water pipes, were sitting in their truck, and a storm came up. I asked God if maybe I could let them in here until the storm lifted. God said No. And God preceded to explain. "Now a days you really have to be careful about who you let in your house. So, I reminded God about the good Samaritan thing. God said, "you let Me guide you". So, I kinda FELT strange, but, I obeyed Him, anyways. Soon they left. There is a moral to this story: Believers pray first and then do good. God might tell you, NO. Wait. You'll know. An inside job. Hallelujah.
---catherine on 6/9/10

First, I would like to say this: Liars, dishonesty. I rather know what I am dealing with. I respect an unbeliever more who would just come out and say, "I don't know your God". Rather than all the pretence. liars are dishonest people. No wonder the world is in such an mess, and gonna get worse as time goes by. Now, on to the question at hand>"By one man's disobedience many were made sinners". This would have to be ADAM. And it is true... God says, "if you love me you will obey Me". Keeps you Right with God. Righteousness. Jesus was righteous above all of us. He obeyed God the Father right to the cross. When you truly belong to God, He gives this to us, an inside job. A Wanting to obey Him.
---catherine on 6/9/10

Debbie Jo,

Good answers.
BUT
Faith with out works is dead faith. Its faith thats NOT useful to God. We are Christ's Body, the ones who when God speaks and tells us to do something, we do it.

Jesus says that hes the vine, we are the branches, all the branches that bear fruit God prunes so that they will bear MORE fruit. The branches that dont bear fruit, God cuts off and throws into the fire.

Look at the Story of the Good Samaritan. Who had active faith? The one who helped the man who had fallen by the side of the road.

You cannot sit and think you can remain in sin but still be saved. Thats straddling the fence and it does not please God.
Im not saying work for salvation. Im saying God says SHOW your faith.

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

It takes obedience to receive The Only & 1 Salvation plan that God has to give. Mark 16 v 16, Acts 2 v's 37 - 41 which Fulfills Matt.28 v's 19 - 20 & this was delivered to the Jewish people First by Apostle Peter on the day of Pentecost. Apostle Paul brought this Very same salvation message to us gentiles. Gal.1 v's 8 - 9.

---Lawrence on 6/9/10

#1 - I understand perfectly what Mima is saying and she is correct. Scripture tells us that Obedience is better than sacrifice, but it doesn't say it is better than faith. Abraham wasn't always obedient but He had faith and it was counted to him as righteousness. Our righteous standing before God is not affected by our obedience or our lack of it. Our rewards are affected but God is the One who makes us righteous, it has nothing to do with what we do or don't do.
---Debbie_Jo on 5/2/08

#2 - That is grace and the more needy you are, the more you lack in self-sufficency, the more dependant you are, the weaker you are in your self, the more grace God gives you. Why do you thing Scripture tells us to reckon the old man dead? It is because God wants us totally dependant upon Him and not our own human ability and He especially does not want us to take credit for anything He has done. It was Jesus obedience that made the difference.
---Debbie_Jo on 5/2/08

#4 - Our obedience will make our life more blessed but it will not affect the soveriegn will of God concerning our salvation. He can't lie or go back on His Word. Just because some can't see the fullness of God's grace, His desire and ability to save to the uttermost, doesn't mean that it is not true. Even if you don't believe in eternal salvation, it doesn't mean that you are right and every other grace believer is wrong. A revelation of the grace of God is needed by all believers.
---Debbie_Jo on 5/2/08

Some want to speak about what they do. I want to speak of what JESUS does.

"And grace forgotten is grace not gotten" you can see from these words, very clearly that the writer is depending on his remembrance of grace and not Gods remembering grace. Samuel,1
What started Jesus unto the sayings of Luke 17:7_10 you cited? It was on account of the disciples asking the Lord to increase their faith right after he had told them to forgive each one their brother even if seven times in a day. Why do you think they asked for faith? I believe it is because they felt that unless they had a faith unlike what they knew themselves to have, they would not be able to carry the Lords command.
---Nana on 5/1/08

Samuel,2
The Lord's answer was a rebuke and a testimony to them that they could do even more than what it was asked of them. If Luke follows a somewhat chronological order, in Luke 11 Jesus had already taught them about forgiveness and even the Lord's Prayer.

Our righteousness comes from obeying Jesus Christ, and not because Jesus Christ was righteous. Each soul is held accountable for their own works, and not those of our Father's works. Some preacher's children leave their father and go serve sin, and likewise many unregenerate children leave their father and go serve Christ. Yeah really, why people think that?
Must be because they realize that after getting
that "righteousness" they were not placed in
God's Museum of Holy Artifacts but rather
were told that they are branch of a peculiar
vine which if it bears not fruit is cast and
burned (John 15), or they fear being kicked

Unsaved people can behave righteously.
Conversely, saved people can behave unrighteously.

There is a clear bright line between the scriptural concept of "being righteous" and "doing righteousness".
If that distinction isn't clear people may equate righteous acts to salvation.
---AG on 4/29/08

Our righteouness comes from being in JESUS CHRIST. In Him is life and the power to do right. Apart from JESUS we can do nothing. Nor do our works earn anything for us. Good works are to be the result of being Born Again. Those who do not follow JESUS are showing they are not born again.

Mankind (including Christianity) has always been under a "strong delusion" and felt more comfortable believing that our own efforts and scholarly accomplishments could make us deserving of salvation, but Christ alone is our "cornerstone" (Ephesians 2:20) and by laying a foundation of our own (works/deeds, scholarly accomplishment) repentance in Christ becomes impossible (Hebrews chapter 6). This must not continue. He will not be unjust and overlook this at the final judgement.

One human's sin brought a curse upon her children, but each offspring could repent back to God and be made righteous. Each soul is held accountable and rewarded according to their own works, not their parents works. So too with Christ, he obtained righteousness and blessing for us, but evenso each offspring coming after him is held accountable to either obey or else be disobedient. Jesus finished his own mission, now each must also finish their own. Please Read- Matthew 16:27+ II Corinthians 5:10.

Pride is why. Man is prideful and loves to boast about his conquests. The only righteousness that God accepts is that of His Son Jesus Christ in His death on the Cross for sin.

I believe it is over emphasized in the Church, however it is necessary to be reveiwed every now and then. Many in the Church are not trully saved. They are Christian in name alone. They never made the commitment in their heart so there is no desire for obedience to God's Word.

Salvation depends on the obedience of Jesus which is what this verse is talking about. The "one man's disobedience" is Adam. The "obedience of One" is Jesus. The Scripture reference is Romans 5:19.

1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

We will have sin even up to the time of our death. Fortunately it will be the final act of our sanctification to remove all sinfulness from us when we see Christ face to face. In contrast to the SDA doctrine that one has to perfect oneself to be worthy of eternal life.

Sin is from the world system, our own flesh, and from the devil. In the eternal state, all 3 will be gone so how can we sin further?

Personally, I know that the Fathers salvation & righteousness, & their being both imparted & imputed to me depends entirely upon Him. I was drawn to salvation, given faith & empowered to submit to & obey the principles for life that the Father has opened my mind to. Abraham believed (relied on, adhered to, depended upon & trusted in) God and it was attributed to him as righteousness.

It was by Jesus' obedience to God and dying on the cross for our sins that we can have salvation. There is no good works that we can do to save ourselves, else Jesus' work on the Cross would be useless. Only by JESUS' OBEDEDIENCE to the calling on his life are we saved. Hallelujah!

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

I believe that our "salvation" is the Grace of God. I also believe that our "righteousness" is our obedience to God.

WE obey GOD because we love HIM. NOT to get something from HIM. PLUS, IF YOU want to be BLESSED BY HIM YOU will have to obey HIM. PLUS, YOU SHALL PAY for not obeying HIM. HE DIED a TUMULTUOUS death, for you, so if you are truly saved, you will want to obey GOD. YOU WILL HAVE A STRONG desire TO OBEY HIM.I AM hopeing JESUS HAS SAVED YOU.

Whom this verse is speaking of is Adam & Jesus. The disobedience of Adam brought on the fall of man, form the grace of God. The obedience of Jesus has brought salvation to man, by the grace of God.

To answer your question, You need to know what it means to accept Christ and to repent for your sins. SALVATION comes through acceptance of Christ, and all that he is. You can not seek to be part of the body of Christ and also seek to be disobedient to the word of God.

Jesus Christ was obedient to the word of God. By accepting Christ as our Lord & savior and repenting for our sins, we are SAVED. This makes us part of the body of Christ. In doing so we are accepting all that Christ is and this means being obedient to the word of God. We are saved by the grace of God through our faith in Christ. It is by his grace that we are made RIGHTEOUS unto him.

Because most people don't understand that the word salvation means a lot more than just having sins forgiven. It also contains healing, deliverance, protection from enemies, wholeness, wellness, and rescue. And some of those areas of salvation do have a lot to do with our behavior and obedience. I may be saved(forgiven) but if I'm drinking 10 cans of beer every day my body is going to need to be saved (healed) from sickness.
