I would get some good teaching on it..meditate on scripture..faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God...and then just ask and receive. I do not understand how people make this so complicated! I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at 10..just received. No tarrying..no waiting...

I know I will place much flak but I'm going to give you what I believe is the proper answer to this question. When praying have a long talk with God tell them exactly what you believe ask him to show you if your believe is not right. Then I Would suggest praising the Lord. Why? Because the Bible says the Lord inhabits the praises of his people by praising him with your mouth you bring him on the scene.

Ask(Matthew 7:7; IJohn 5:14-15; Mark 11:24)
If you need to have someone else to pray with you.

Jesus is the baptizer in the Holy Spirit(Matthew 3;11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33)

Remember that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is for every believer.(Acts 1:8)

In faith recieve & begin to pray in the Spirit.

It's as simple as shaking someone hand who is right in front of you.
It's as simple as getting saved.

Ask God to fill you and baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

First you must repent and be born again. At that moment you become filled with the Holy Ghost.

Or you can try the other way and have a slavation experience, then latter you ask for the Holy Ghost at witch time you will get a spirit of some sort and bark like a dog or grunt like a pig or maybe even speak in some unknow tongue.

Believe that you are. We live by faith, not feeling. If you are Born Again, you have the Holy Spirit. Read your Bible. Let His Word fill your heart and mind. Obey His Word. Jesus Said, My WORDS are Spirit and they are Life. Many on line here say they are filled with the Holy Spirit, and preach things contrary to scripture. That is impossible. The Holy Spirit cannot go against the Word of God.

2Co 6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
2Co 6:8 By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;
2Co 6:9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
2Co 6:10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
