Jesus is speaking of the true word of God; Gods will for man as he created him. The true word of God is what our minds are transformed by; so we are no longer conformed to this world. The freedom Jesus is speaking of is freedom from sin and death.

A comfortable doctrine laid down concerning the spiritual liberty of Christ's disciples. God will not own any of His disciples but those that continued in His word. [If not strong in faith, at least be sound in the faith]. You belong to Christ, only if you are willing to be bound to Him for the rest of your life.>>>The Truth-continues.

It means whatever it is that you are dealing with in your own personal life.. Take the time to find out the truth about this thing(issue)Look for the truth in God's Holy Word(the bible) Once you find the truth about this issue, the truth will set your mind and life free.
For instance when you read in the Word of God that adultery is wrong. You have found the truth.God cannot and will not lie. It is up to you to be set free by believing God's Word. If you disagree you are still not free.

The truth is Jesus and His finished work on the Cross for sin. Jesus won total victory over the world, the flesh and the devil on the Cross. Because we are in Christ we walk in His victory by faith. That is the truth that sets us free. Look to Jesus.

Like most verses, this cannot be properly understood outside its context: "IF you contine in My word, then you are truly My disciples, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Who is Truth--but Jesus?

This verse is talking about an intimate personal reliance on Him, brought about by listening to the Apostles and their successors, Orthodox priests and bishops.

When Jesus speaks about the truth He is referring to His coming into the world stage as our mediator and redeemer. He was speaking to the disciples at the time and the prelude to this statement was " if you abide in me" which calls to mind Brother Paul's teaching that" Christ in us is the hope of glory". Therefore the more christlike we become the more positioned we are to live a life of freedom from sin and its consequencies both material and spiritual.

Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father except by me. For if you all believe not that I am, you all will die in your sins. Who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we being freed from sin, should live in righteousness, by whose livid wounding you were healed." John 14:6; 8:24; I Peter 2:24. Please read II Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:13; 5:1; Colossians 2:14.

Mima;At that time (and even now) people were in bondage to various sects and beliefs. The truth "the gospel of the Kingdom" set them free. Acts.2.41 shows 3,000 set free in one day!The gospel of the Kingdom is what Jesus preached.Mat.9.35...Seek it-Mat.6.33 There was nothing "subliminal" about Jesus'remarks.

(1.)Mima, The Truth has always been and always will be, and It [only] comes from God Himself. Jesus said the Truth must be known(embraced), and only then can one be "free". The Truth is light and life, The Truth is completely devoid of deceit/darkness. (John 8:32)Speaks of God's Saving Truth, the pure gospel of Christ, NOT a bunch of confusion & red tape like man tries to make It out to be...

(2.)Mima, ...but [simple] enough that [only] the humble and honest-hearted can understand. The Truth is "a priceless gift", and one can't fully understand It without the "Gift-Giver",without [abiding in] the "Gift Giver", I have seen many try, but it's all in vain, they are ever learning but never [able] to come to the knowledge of the Truth. (John 5:33,39)(2 Tim. 4:2-4)(Psalm 57:10,11)(Psalm 119:105)(Revelation 19:13).God Bless!

When a christian knows the truth that they aren't a sinner, but a child of God they can layhold of the promises of God.(Romans 8:14-17) When a christian knows they have a right to be healed they can walk in wholeness(1Peter 2:24) When a christian finds out they have a right to prosper financially they won't be broke or in lack.(2Corinthians 8:9; 3John2)
