David8318, you said, the wages of sin is paid in death, in Romans 6:23 which is talking about the second death, (spiritual death), that comes at the Great White Throne of judgment and does not mean he dies again, but that he is dead forever separated from God while for the verse then says,
"but the gift of God is eternal life (not separated from God but) eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
While you might not believe in hell as I assume, you want to connect death and say everyone's sins are forgiven when they die a physical death. The only thing that happens at physical death is that you cannot sin anymore because you are dead.
---Mark_V. on 12/1/10

Micha9344- you ask, 'Why be judged if they are acquitted?' (11/28/10). You base your question on Revelation 20:12.

Not sure if you realise but Rev.20:12 speaks of a future judgment at the end of Christ's 1000 year reign over the earth. Anointed Christians (144,000 'born again' ones) are already in heaven at this time. They are not judged at the end of the 1000 year reign.

Rev.20:12 applies to those who are resurrected back on earth and will include previous 'non-believers' who had died prior to Armageddon, been 'acquitted' of inherited Adamic sin (Ro.6:23), and had received a resurrection to life on earth to have a 2nd chance (some have a 2nd death). They are judged 'according to their deeds' done during Christ's 1000 year reign.
---David8318 on 12/1/10

MarkV- The 'sin' Paul is discussing in Romans 6 is the sinful condition inherited from Adam. 'The wages sin pays is death'- Romans 6:23.

This is the 'sin' one is 'acquitted' of at death- not the sins one commits during life. But at death, the sinner has paid the ultimate price for the 'wages sin pays'.

Inherited Adamic sin manifests itself in different ways, some may have committed an unforgivable sin. As I said before, Jehovah is the final Judge on those matters, but a person may not be forgiven for certain sins committed.

But for a 'sinner' who has never been exposed to God's word but lived a decent life, Romans 6:7 would hold true in his case at death in that he is 'acquitted' of the sin inherited from Adam.
---David8318 on 12/1/10

David, I do not know where you were taught, I believe you mentioned Jehovah Witnesses but I don't believe they believe in Universalism. What you say conforms to that theology. That everyone's sins have been forgiven meaning that everyone is saved and has eternal life. Just not true at all. The lost go to the Great White Throne of Judgment, and they will have to suffer for their sins because they have not been forgiven. So your whole theory is false.
---Mark_V. on 11/30/10

MarkV- my interpretation of Romans 6:7 IS about at physical death sins are forgiven. That's what Ro.6:7 states.

I do agree that Ro.6:5,6 are applicable to anointed Christians, 'born again' of HolySpirit who are baptised into Christ's death and have been 'declared righteous'- Ro.5:1. These become 'united with him (Christ) in the likeness of his death'. Christ was without sin when he died, likewise, Jehovah does not see their sin when an anointed Christian dies because he has been 'declared righteous'.

However, for one who is not an anointed Christian, the statement at Ro.6:7 holds true- 'For he who has died has been acquitted from his sin'. An anointed Christian has already been declared righteous, Ro.6:7 does not apply to them.

Hell was not designed for humans and is a location of vacation by choice.
Romans ONe lets us know our desire for God is inate and we are without excuse.

Annie, the answer to your question as a Christian is simply, yes.

Jesus clearly declared:

John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Acts 4:11,12 "This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
---christan on 11/29/10

David8318, your interpretation of Romans 6:7 is not talking about at physical death sins are forgiven. Because the Scripture reads, Rom. 6:5,6 "For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection."This passages are talking about a born again Christian. Our old self died with Christ and the life we now live and now enjoy is a new divinely-given life that is the life of Christ Himself (Gal. 2:20). "Knowing this, that our Old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin."
The passage is not talking about when a person dies a physical death his sins are forgiven.
---Mark_V. on 11/29/10

I know by the Spirit in me that all creation speaks of the Kingdom of Heaven. Ask a fish and it will tell you what God has done by His own hand. Even a lamb of God knows how to suffer for good, Or hasn't it been considered that God has put before us continually as a sign, "The Dawning of a great light" that rises up from the East in early morning hours of a new day? To whom is the dawn of a new day sent? Lift your eyes and praise the One who created you.
---larry on 11/28/10

Mark 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Why be judged if they are aquitted?
Maybe David8318 has a misinterpretation of this verse.
---micha9344 on 11/28/10

Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Noone comes unto the Father except through me."
---Jed on 11/28/10

The Bible does not teach people are sent to burn in a hell-fire. It is a point of fact that Jesus used the word 'Gehenna' and not hell.

Jesus Christ used Gehenna- a rubbish dump/incinerator outside Jerusalem, to teach that those receiving 'the judgment of Gehenna' (Mt.23:33) would not be given a resurrection. Not that they would burn forever literally in fire. Nothing living was sent to Gehenna, and nothing came out. Even the 'Lake of Fire' is symbolic because symbolisms of evil and death are thrown there- Rev.20:10.

The Bible teaches the dead are completely and totally unconscious (Eccs 9:5,10), Jesus described death as 'sleep' (John 11:11) and that at death a sinner is 'acquitted' of his sin (Romans 6:7).
---David8318 on 11/28/10

Okay, here is the bottom line: If you die without Jesus you shall go to hell. "God is God". If you die without being made right with God through the Blood of Jesus Christ, in otherwords, your reputation with God stinks, to hell you go. You must be made right with the living God in order for you to spend eternity with Him. You know 1 and 1 makes 2. IF YOU ARE NOT MADE RIGHT with God HE DOES NOT WANT YOU. Not everyone, infact, most people will never be made right. my friend.
---catherine on 11/23/10

Annie, if you are one of God's elect, you will hear the Word of God and you will believe by faith no matter where you are at. For we are saved by the Grace of God through faith. God will make it possible for all those who were chosen from the foundation of the world to be saved. All others will continue in their condemned state. All people are born with a sinful nature or "Original sin" We are sinners not because we sin, but rather, we sin because we are sinners by nature. Original sin does not refer primarily to the first or original sin committed by Adam and Eve. Original sin refers to the result of the first sin-the corruption of the human race. Original sin refers to the fallen condition in which we are born.
---Mark_V. on 11/23/10

Annie- Obviously, God is the ultimate Judge as to whether a person has not been exposed to His word and has never been given the oportunity to embrace Biblical truth. But what is certain for everyone, including the type of person you describe is what God states at Romans 6:7,

"For he who has died has been acquitted from his sin."

Thus for all sinners (ie. everybody), those who have heard God's word and those who have not- at death they are 'acquitted' of their sin. Thus death is not a gateway to eternal hell and damnation as proponents of the Egypto/Babylonian false hell-fire teaching will have you believe.

Rather, all who suffer Adamic death are 'sleeping' (Jesus at John 11:11), awaiting a resurrection.
---David8318 on 11/22/10

No. There is no such place as a literal burning hell where wicked are sent. Hell-fire is not a Bible teaching. Rather, the Bible teaches that at death, a soul or person is in a state of complete unconsciousness. Eccs.9:5,10, Ezk.18:4.

Supporters of the God-dishonouring hell-fire doctrine cite verses such as Matthew 5:29,30 where they believe Jesus Christ used the word 'hell'. This is incorrect as the original word used by Jesus was 'Gehenna' ('Gehenna' is also used at Mt.5:22, 10:28, 18:9, 23:15,33, Mk.9:43-47, Lu.12:5).

Nothing living was ever sent to Gehenna, and nothing came out. Jesus' illustrative use of 'Gehenna' was to convey the thought of complete destruction with no hope of return- no hope of resurrection. Mt.25:41-46.

I know of children born and raised atheist that have come to Jesus Christ in their adult years.

(OPINION HERE) I personally dont believe any man that has never heard the gospel is in hell. That all men are safe until they hear the truth and reject it. At which point their name is "blotted out of the book of life". They are no longer under the protection of Gods grace.

The Bible does make mention of God winking at sin done in ignorance but once men know the truth they MUST repent.

The unpardonable sin is rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ. He is after all the physical manisfestation of Gods love, mercy and grace towards man. What else can we expect of God if we reject his love?

There shall be a new heaven and a new earth. Both shall be populated, but who shall go to heaven and who shall be on earth?

There are two resurrections. The first resurrection is when Jesus returns the second time. The dead in Christ shall rise first and the living shall be caught up with them.

The second resurrection occurs after the thousand year reign of Christ when all the other dead throughout all of Earth's history rise and be judged from the Book of Life - according to their works.

Blessed are they that rise in the first resurrection for they shall not see the second death.

Annie, Christ won't return until the gospel has been preached throughout all the world and THEN Christ will return. Matthew 24:14.

Take the aforementioned and the knowledge that God owes nothing to anyone including the infants and toddlers killed for example in our bombing of Baghdad and you have your answer. Sovereignty. Even so the father is not willing that any should perish.

We accept sovereignty though we may not understand.

I have no answer concerning the unborn.
---larry on 12/13/09

Rosalie/Gary both of you are correct. Because the one's that reject Christ are the none elect. Everyone who can understand, God has presented Himself to all mankind, and they are guilty because they did not honor God as God. All those who rejected the gospel are also guilty of their rejection of Christ, but babies, retarded, and all others who cannot understand, will have to go the Great White Throne of Judgement, not the Bema Seat of Christ where believers go, and at the Great white throne, books of works will be open, the bad works that has condemn them, but babies and retarded and those who do not understand, will not have anything written against them. They will have to be pardon, since God's character never changes. He is always Just.
---MarkV. on 12/13/09 is not rejecting Christ we go to hell. We reject Christ because we are unrighteous. We are all sinners unless God gives us a new heart to follow him. It is not our choice to follow God...It is God who chose us. Those whom he chosen, for them Christ died only. Read Romans 9 to 11

Salvation is base on GRACE of Election. Those that God save from the Foundation of the world. No matter what persecution, Love of God cannot separate them. So God, will provide a way for them to hear Gospel so they will be save.
---rosalie on 12/13/09

Only unbelievers and those that reject JESUS CHRIST'S gift of eternal life with Him will be judged at the Great White Throne judgement, there will be no pardons at that judgement only judgement of unrightoues works and transgressions. All believers will be judged at the Bemis Seat judgement where we will receive judgement for our works. Don't forget also that ALL will receive eternal life just those who go to the White Throne judgement will receive eternal life seperated from GOD. The lake of fire is a lake of fire that burns but does not consume. One very good reason to repent to a Gracious and Loving GOD that will not give us what we deserve because of JESUS CHRIST ! Praise His Name !!!

i see the judgement in rev 20 as spiritual briging the second death. God is not cruel but he is just, check with the people of noah's time, check the people of sodom, check Ananias, and Sapphira,in acts 5. I see the Bema seat and the white throne as two different events
---michael_e on 12/12/09

michael, At the Great White Throne of Judgment, in Rev. 20 you don't see anyone been judge innocent or guilty yet since the event has not happened yet. When the time comes, the book of works will be open, then their works will be the grounds for their punishment. And God will not be cruel. It is impossible for God to be cruel. God is incapable of inflicting an unjust punishment. No innocent person will ever suffer at His hand.

how it appears to all, only god knows, but he says it does, that is good enough.

it is true that everyone that has ever lived on the Earth will hear the gospel of Jesus either here or when they die. God is no respector of persons and everyone has the same chance to return to His kingdom. that is up to the individual though to accept or reject. many people devoted their lives to goodness and mercy because they knew in their hearts it was true to do so. even Jesus Christ taught the souls in prison so they could hear his words, KJV.

Again I say, there is no righteous people without Christ. Not a one of them. Mima is correct, Jesus was not mistaken or did he lie, a person must be born of the spirit to enter heaven and have eternal life with Christ. All descendents of Adam are heading for hell. All who are deaf, who are babies, or retarded will go before the Great White Throne of Judgment, books will be open concerning their works, if none found, God will be just and pardom them for He is just in His judgment, those others who never heard of Christ have been judged by their knowledge of God found in Romans chapter one, who knew of God and did not honor Him as God will be found guilty as all who rejected Christ.
---MarkV. on 12/11/09

if they were evil by nature then they will go to hell, but if they were good by nature they will go to heaven

that sounds so sweet ...too bad it is NOT from scripture ...just another denominational idea FROM mortal men

Gods Word says ONLY those who receive salvation will receive the GIFT of eternal life and REIGN with Christ on EARTH - doesn't say heaven and the wicked NEVER receive eternal life of any form

ALL who have ever lived and died are in hell right now - it is the grave ...ashes to ashes dust to dust we all go where the beasts go

today is not the ONLY day for salvation as the deceived religious christianity teaches its followers

corey, here is your answer:
"He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask. All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death."
1 John 5: 16, 17
"For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins, But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries."
Hebrews: 26, 27.

Everyone goes to hell

all mankind will die and at death their physical bodies are buried - all go to hell

hell is the grave and all who ever lived are there now and True Christians are there waiting the resurrection on the LAST DAY

those who do not hear the word of God ...or hear but their minds are closed to truth will see their resurrection to life during the 100 years after the millennium

during those years their minds will be open to the truth of The Father in Heaven and Christ to live their lives and obey or reject and perish

all who perish simply cease to exist

eternal life is ONLY given to those who receive GIFT of salvation

As a catholic, I believe that you go to hell if you committ a mortal sin - and this sin requires knowledge (you must know that you sin) and consent (it is your choice). Ignorance can diminish the sin, however, if your ignorance is intentional (you can know the truth, but you don't want to know it), your sin is only increased. In view of that, it is theoretically possible to be a non-believer without going to Hell - but this happens only on condition that your ignorance is really unintentional - you have no chance of knowing the truth. But in the contemporary world, with christianity reaching everywhere, this may be a mere theoretical possibility.
---Robert on 12/3/09

The bible tells us that there will be people that will never hear the Word of God. God gave each person a conscience. so with that conscience we know right from wrong. (if the person is in their mind). God judges us with our heart. In Heb 4:12 it says that God is a discerner of our thoughts and intents of the heart. If a person never heard of God, and they have a good heart, no hatred, etc toward someone God sees that and they will be rewarded.

I do not know your intention(s) for asking this question. However, if anyone is sending you to hell, PLEASE ask that person to tell you where hell is located in Scripture. Research the origin of the word hell throughout human history. The first mention of an underworld (Amenti/Amenta) was in ancient Egypt. Your research will be rewarding! More liberating is the FACT that the FIRE in Revelation 20:10 is the same fire in Heb. 12:29 (GOD).

Three kinds of people who go to hell: the wicked by nature who never heard the gospel; the person who heard the gospel, but rejected it; and the backslider who never repented or returned to the Lord. And three kinds of people go to heaven: the righteous by nature who never heard the gospel; the born-again Christian; and the backslider who repented or returned to the Lord.

Technically YES.

However God has revealed himself to all on an individual basis, some never know how, but I can think of a time when I didn't even like Jesus and he came to me and wanted to turn my whole life around with the way he has worked in the lives of my family.

There's no way to see for sure who's born again and who's not. We all do good, and we all mess it up, but the one who loves to please God at the cost of self will is born again and lives forever.

Everyone has had the word of God presented to them; no matter how you were raised or your life style, for God is always chastening us. Some have just choice not to believe in what God has presented before them. God is constantly looking to get his word to us, so we will have the chance to accept the word; by believing through faith. And, YES non-believers go to HELL!

The whole world will hear the gospel. I will not condemn anyone and say that they are going to hell, but we know where non-believers will go. God gives everyone at least one oppurtunity in their life to hear the word. People make their one decision whether they will except it or reject it.
