NO ONE can, in isolation, grow or renew one's walk in Christ. We are members of His Body and are dependant on each other for all to thrive, so one important step is this: find a fellowship of Christians that has a ministry of PATIENTLY, gently helping restore one who has backslid and wants to renew - however long it takes. But these helpers must have a humility that enables them to imagine they had the personality and difficulties of the one backsliding, so they will be sensitively compassionate, discerning restorers (they must themselves lead by example of heeding correction of where they too fall short - even correction offered from the one who recently backslid, who can therefore also practice holding others accountable to walk like Christ).

"Resist the devil and he must flee" comes to mind. People who continually backslide do it because they want to. We are given the right to chose what we do with our lives. To stay strong we stay away from the things that cause us to be tempted. This could be some of our friends or places that we go. We need to stay strong in the Word (read it everyday) and strong in prayer (more than once a day). These things all will help. We MUST decide to live for the Lord and not ourselves.

to over come sin you first must have the spirit of christ (cannot do it on your own) and baptized in His name. this breaks the chain of sin and lets you live above it, when your will falters i suggest fasting, prayer and most of all accountability. knowing you have to tell someone you messed up again goes along way in prevention. i say all this as one struggling aswell with some things.

By putting you total trust in the Lord and savior Jesus Christ and to be lead by God's Holy Spirit who lives inside each and ever born again believer. 2 Peter 2:9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the Day of Judgment,

Get your heart and mind right towards God. Commit yourself to the vow you made to the Lord the day you received your salvation. Stop trying to prove something to the world and live for Jesus. Don't be a hypocrite. Either you belong to Jesus or you don't. You can't be double-minded and expect anything from God.

Perservere!! The bloggers gave perfect examples but of importantance is never give up. God loves the child who gets right up in his face and cries out "Abba". One blogger mentioned fasting and prayer and I think it is very importint because it could be a stronghold/family curse causing the problem. Stay in the WORD,Talk To JESUS,and other suggestions on the blogs are wise. Do not stop and do all things with ALL of your STRENGTH. Perserver!Through His love you will recieve a gift of repentance.:)

One of the most important steps to avoiding backsliding is distancing ones self from past wordly friends. You don't stop being their friend, because you want to witness to them and be an example. Another thing is avoid places that just have to much sinful activity going on. No longer go to bars(even if you are invited by a friend), wild parties etc. Just be wise, stay in the word, fast, and pray that God will give you good Christian friends who don't offer stumbling blocks but rather offer edification.

If God is adequate to SAVE you from sin, do you not believe that He is adequate to KEEP you from sin? I believe God desires His people to enter into a deeper relationship with Him, through a second work of grace. In the same way we depend on God for salvation, He wants us to depend on Him for sanctification. After this second crisis experience, the believer's sanctification grows and deepens as he continues to walk in all the light God sheds on his path. God bless you as you continue to seek Him.

If by back-sliding you mean sinning, then you can never really be sinless, but if you mean not believing in God, I am not sure.

You don't ever turn your back on someone you love with a deep, true love, amen? So fall in love with Jesus by developing your relationship with Him EVERY SINGLE DAY OF YOUR LIFE. Talk to him like He's your best friend. "Jesus I feel lonely today, can you please encourage me?" "Lord, please let me know you care about me."
Talk to Jesus as if he was sitting down with you in your home.

Give your heart to God.
---Leslie on 2/11/07

The most important to thing is to hold onto a thrist for rightesousness and turn our backs on sin. If we truly wish to become rightesouss God is faithful and will give it to us. Besides, it is what Chrisitans are supposed to want. If we still have a love for sin in our hearts we must turn to God with a repentant heart. The only thing that can hold one back from doing this is the belief that it is ok to sin(it is a lie) or the fear of sinning.

the easiest way to prevent back sliding is to be in the world, but not of the world. we are taught in the bible that only the righteous will enter God's kingdom. how do we live righteously. we study the word so we see how Jesus Christ lived His life. He is the perfect example for us to follow. pray often for strength to overcome temptation. avoid things of the world that bring nothing but sorrow and pain.

2-if we avoid everything that destroys families, we grow in faith and obedience to God and our joys cannot be measured. it is when we decide that we want to indulge in the pleasures of the flesh, we find ourselves walking in darkness and need to grasp the light. people need to remember that the kingdom of God will not contain liers, murderers, adulterers, drug users, drunks etc. people will love each other as God so loved the world that he sent his only Begotten Son.

Well, we have done one on Back Sliding. We ought to do one, And let it be called, Back Biting. What do you think about this one?

I notice people sometimes. They don't have to worry about pleasing God. they seem so carefree. They go about their lives, doing their things. I try to guard against jealousy, because God saids to. But then I realize, I simply cannot be like them, because I, myself, would die.

PS to prior post. Repentance is more than regret, it was Godly sorrow that led you to repentance. Repentance is a Divine bestowal of an inspired change of mind thru a renewing regeneration of your mind by the Living Word of God. Accompanying this repentance is an automatically empowered reformation-A corresponding change in attitude & action. No change, no true repentance. Faith exercised thru love is the Fathers delight. Submit, It is His pleasure to give you the kingdom of His reign within.

Make a decision to do so. Embrace the truth that reveals every error the Father opens your awareness to. The Truth embraced, is never relinquished. If you keep lodged in your mind any given truth, the error that opposes that truth has no place in your mind. When the erred thought re-enters your mind, truth immediately rejects it. The Fathers word concerning any given situation is truth. If you recognize error, you have been enlighted by truth. Do not rationalize, excuse or justify an error, Repent.

Renew your mind with the word of God. Be filled with the Holy Spirit, pray, worship the Lord daily , strenthen your walk with the Lord. Your desires will change as God fills your heart. It's an everyday walk. You will begin to see things not pleasing to God and pray to the Holy Spirit to give you strength. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and studying God's word brings you to a place of conviction and you know what actions are not pleasing to God. Worshipping God is in every area of your life.

You stop backsliding by putting God first. Love God with all your heart and mind, body and soul. Do that constantly. Start your day and night with a prayer and live like a Christian until it becomes a habit - about 30 days usually helps. God Bless.

I agree with Madison's suggestions. Spend as much time in the Word as you can. Also, fasting and prayer increases your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. It's the quickest way I know, to deepen your relationship with the Lord.
---DoryLory on 2/10/07

Get saved right real good, and you won't want to backslide. People whom leave God, want to. They give reasons like being a Christian is hard, I can't do it. God wants us to fall in love with him, have a relationship with him. To embrace the Holy Ghost, to love him without end. God never told us it would be easy, he did tell us that we would go through trials and tribulations. But if we endure with God til the end, then we shall be saved.

GOD wants His people to cuddle with HIM, Talk to Him, Listen to Him. Studying the word of God is No substitute for spending quality time with your GOD.

What do you mean by backsliding? Is your heart backslidden or your actions?
Are you committing the same sin over and over? If so, repent with weaping, mourning and cry out to God to deliver you from that sin. A cry is a continuous whale. A baby doesn't stop crying until it gets what it wants. Repent and cry out for help to Father God. He will hear you and help you.
