Don't Touch God's Anointed

I have often heard this cliche, "Do not touch God's anointed." What does it really mean? Is he really sinless? Does it mean that we cannot say anything negative about the person? What if the so called God's anointed is wrong? Am I God's anointed if I am filled with the Holy Spirit?

David first utters these words or something close to them regardingn Saul. In Samuel. David had two opportunities to take Saul's life and he refraned from doing so. The intersting point about when Dabvid uttes these word about Saul is that Saul was no longer God's anointed one. Samuel, who anointed Saul had revoked Saul's anointing and in fact had anointed David as king. David said these words about Saul when SAUL WAS NO LONGER GOD"S ANOINTED.

Do you mean David when you say "HE?" Is he really sinless. No one is sinless. ALL have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. God's anointed are those whom the Lord God of Israel choose to anoint for a specific purpose. You are God's child, a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation, a people for God's own possession. If you are anointed for a specific purpose, God will make that known to you. God Bless you.

Not all those who claim to be anointed are anointed. I knew a women who was anointed. I knew she was anointed because every time someone tried to work evil against her it alway returned back to them two-fold. I think this is why it is said do not touch God's anointed.

All God's people(true Christians)are his annointed. There are no special people who are anointed, if this is what you are asking. Do not touch God's anointed is a scripture in the bible not a "cliche". Do not slander, belittle or despise a preacher, prophet or true Christian of God. That is my basic understanding.

Does it mean that we cannot say anything negative about the person?

James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath showed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

James 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Anointing can be defined as set apart for God's purpose;it can be defined as God's approval and it can also defined as ability to get things done with His help.As being taught, our obedience to God and our thirst or hunger for righteousness is a magnet for anointing.God Command us to love our neigbor as we love ourselves and what we do or give even to the least of our brethren,we have done that for Him,then much more he require of us in our dealings with His anointed ones.God Bless You All.

Randy, you don't have to agree with everything the annointed one does and says. But it does mean not to gossip or slander the annointed. The problem with most annointed is that they think because they are SO annointed in one area that they know all there is to know in all areas. Yet, the Word tells us that God gives different gifts to different people. I don't remember reading that anyone has all gifts. The gifts are given as HE wills. The annointed deserves GREAT respect and no slander.

Anointed. The Bible talks about the accuser of the brethern. Fault-finding. There are even ministries that have taken on the job of fault-finding. The Lord says that in His house, accusing one another should be replaced with prayer. Loving your brother covers a multitude of sins. Churches are destroyed by the accuser of the brethern.

This does not give an anointed one a free pass to bring error and a distorted gospel into the Church. Where there is error, the motive is to restore. Let correction replace corruption. To be anointed (one n), is to bring Christ's corrections to a church. Build and restore and not echo the accuser of the brethern, fault-finding.

I have seen the results when a person has attacked a Godly-annointed person on more than one occasion. Although everyone wants to say that God is love, God's vengence is sometimes much worse than man's.

Do not touch my anointed ones=== is not a CLICHE it is truth. And anyone found guilty will be punished by God, either in this life and or in the next life. You want to know what it means, Matthew Henry's comm. or your Bible Dic. is a big help. I must warn you, Satan does not want you to have these Bible tools.

Mima, what did this man do that makes him stand out and have that affect on people?
---AlwaysOn on 2/22/07

While witnessing recently I encountered the first man that I know off of whom it might be said" Do not touch God's anointed". Total strangers broke down and wept after coming into his presence. I was completely totally shocked by this. I know the man well and he is gentle and soft-spoken and exhibits no outward signs of spirituality, yet to be with him and see him witnessing to people was a joyful experience.

tonne==You are right. But unbelievers don't understand these things. You know, if those wicked men had known who Jesus was, They would have kept their impiety hands to themselves. No mocking Him or anything. [Most things never changes]

It means exactly what it says. Do not touch anything that God annoints. It is set apart and redeemed by God for God's purpose. The annointed belongs to God he/she is consecrated. You shall not cast pearls before swine. A light should be put on a candlestick. You cannot conquer what God made and expect to win in the end. They demonized the annointed and holy people.

This reminds me of one televangelist who not only uses this phrase a lot, but prays curses upon those who speak against him. All of this is totally not Biblical.
---Susie on 2/21/07

Be very wary of preachers and evangelists who tell you themselves or have their 'teams' constantly telling you that they are anointed, give wonderfully anointed teaching etc. They are blowing their own trumpet. Those who have to keep telling us, probably arn't.
---m.p.a. on 2/21/07

Phrases used out of context are a tactic to keep ministries, from all scriptural examination. The minute you sound the alarm about biblical error, the warning is uttered. Don't be guilty of touching the Lord's anointed.

1 Sam 15:3, 1 Sam 15:20, 1 Sam 24:1-15, 1 Sam 26:8-10
2 Tim 4:2, 2 Thess 3:6, 14-15
Catch phrases are unbiblical. Be careful of their use to esteem a man or woman above biblical examination.

"yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, Saying, Touch not mine anointed..."

This verse was a reproof to the rulers (kings) of that day.

When God said this he meant that others without the anointing of God better watch how they treat and what they say about God's people. In Chr 16:22 it says touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm. It means as it says. As long as you abide in God and he in you, you are anointed by God.
---Rebecca_D on 2/20/07

Touch not my annointed and cause no harm to come to the prophets. Anotherwords they were supposed to protect them not cause them to error.

Randy, have you read 1st and 2nd Samuel yet? Do you remember when King David was running from Saul and he had a chance to kill him because David found Saul sleeping in a cave? And David choose not to kill Saul because he was God's anointed? "Do not touch God's anointed" means don't bring them any harm, none at all. Don't talk bad about them, don't kill them, don't even think about it is what God means by this scripture.
