The image of God Is the flesh of Jesus Christ & Is the only way we can see God. God robed Himself in flesh(Jesus Christ). God's flesh is where our likeness came from.

I agree with you.
Some seem to have a problem with that Lawrence. But, it logics easily. I mean after all it was his son. An observation, our physical form can shape the letter "Y" either end. Even the trees proclaim the first letter of his sacred name.

As I see it Genesis 1:27 in not saying we are made physically like God, as he is Spirit not man or superman.

I believe God is here saying humans were made different to animals, having attributes like God of moral consciousness, the ability to think abstractly, an understanding of beauty and emotion , and above all , the capacity for worshiping and loving God-as Dr Henry Morris says. That we posess an eternal and divine (from God not of our doing) dimension, requiring a special creation which was not part of animal creation.

We are unique and special as God Himself took upon human flesh becoming Immanuel-God with us-to be our Saviour with us. And I praise Him for that. Come Lord Jesus.

One meaning of man being God's image can be found in Gen.1:26-28. As God has dominion over all creation in Heaven and the Universe, HE has given man the wisdom to have dominion over the other living things in the earth eg fishes, birds, animals etc.

Here is an interesting sidenote to this question. While it is true that God made us in his image, consider whose image his son assumed and remains in when he came to earth.

The Bible does not indicate exactly what the image of God in humankind is. We are most fully human when fulfilling our spiritual potential. Every precious life is precious to God, and this is exactly how we should treat the people with whom we share the world. Be careful, when you pull the trigger, Mr policeman. You may be blowing someone right into hell. I find that the entire man, as a human being, images God. Human being is made in the image of God in that, in a separate act of creation. Man originates apart from any connection with the animal creation and certainly not from evolution. Which is the biggest lie ever told by man. Take it out of the schools, please. GOD HATES LIARS. Ahh.

Jesus gives a strong clue in John 14:9-'Anyone who has seen me has seen the father.' I'm confident Jesus meant that in him they could see God's nature and most likely His form, the form He chose before our creation,in which He has appeared to man, commonly referred to as a Christophany I believe.

It seems He created us in line with the physical form He chose before our creation. And also created us having a spiritual nature (now corrupted by sin) like His.

I plan to ask Him when I see Him!

"The word was made Flesh and Dwelt amongst us"Same as God imbibed all the qualities of Man when he took flesh, body parts,so also we took on all his qualities of Goodness Kindness Truthfulness,in our human nature when he created us.qualities we cannot see but are there and expected to develop.

.dan, you speak have not seen God and you do not know God, and therefore you speak that what you do not know of. But those of us who see him with our eyes, know he indeed looks exactly like the detailed description of him in the Holy Bible.

"Anyone thinking God has fingers and toes is being childish." In what way? To me it is childish to think of God as and apperition. No where do we find a difinitive portrait of God. So none of knows what He looks like. But we will know Him when we SEE Him.

John: I too have no problem with the concept of the bible being literal here in saying that Adam was created in Gods image. But, I don't think it would cause me problems if I found out that God was a spirit without shape. The value of God in my life has little to do with whether He looks like me or Adam. It has everything to do with His salvation and His principles that help me live my life in a better, more loving and Christ-like way.

"God made us in His image," meaning we have been given the capacity to love and forgive, as God loves and forgives.

There is no place God is not. He is in spirit.

lit.Heb: "And God said: Let us make man in our shape according to our likeness...Then YHWH God shaped man, even the soil of the ground, and breathed into his face the breath of life. So man was made a living soul." Beginning 1:26+ 2:7.
---Eloy on 5/1/08

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
When God "Breathed into his nostrils the breath of Life," God was breathing His spirit into man. So man is a spirit with a soul (mind, will and emotions) housed in a body.

I thought only Adam was made in Gods image...

Man alone possessed self-conscious life. Scripture is not specific as to exactly what it is about man that constitutes the image of God.The entire man as a human being, images God. We have arms God has arms, We can walk so can God walk, We have eyes God also can see,We have ears you better know God can also hear. God has emotions, feelings. And they get hurt regularly.

I think he made us to look like him. If I made something in my image and in my likeness it would look like me so I have no problem beieving we look like God.
---john on 8/29/07

in Gen: it says that we are made in God's image, we are human beings made in the image of God, but today you see the world worshipping God in the image of monkey, elephant, rat, snake etc: this definitely makes God sad.

Of the other creatures it is said that they were created and made, but of man that He was formed. The soul of man. It was not made of the earth, as the body was, it came immediately from God. Into His hands let us commit our spirits, for from His hands we had them. The soul is the man. [body would be worthless, useless, loathsome carcase, if the soul did not animate it--living.] NOTE===Only man, among all creatures, has Self-Consciousness.]
---catherine on 3/14/07

Man was created to resemble, reflect & represent, in a similar manner, the attributes & attitude of the Father. Man has been given the ability to demonstrate the Fathers ability to reason & to make rational choices based on mental deduction & logic. This distinguishes the man, from the beast.

God is spirit. So are we. hence we are made in His IMAGE. We live in a body. But we are spirit. Get it. I hope so.
---catherine on 3/10/07

greetings.the image of God is in every living ,thinking and reasoning mortal-the indwelling spirit. The human form may be different elsewhere, where Jesus has other sheep but the unmistakable true light is present in terrestrial mankind regardless of appearances.

**If I made something in my image and in my likeness it would look like me so I have no problem beieving we look like God.**

God does not have a physical body, and anyone who thinks that He has fingers and toes is being unduly childish.

The likeness to God is supposed to be spiritual and moral, not physical, as God has no physical form.

The *US* in Genesis 1:26 is the Trinity & it's shown in 1John 5:7.

They are 1-in-3 & we, made in Their image, are 1-in-3.

Like what Donna said. We each are a spirit, have a soul, & are in a body.

God is the Father of spirits which proves that we are a spirit & that God is not the Father of all of mankind.(Hebrews 12:9)

He is Creator of all, but not the Father of all.

According to eastern Christian (Orthodox and others) teaching, the image of God is the seed or potential, and we are to GROW into His likeness--for which we have all eternity.
