God wants to see OUR endeavours He Knows His capabilities. His assistance to us comes with His help as a Loving Father the same way as the,Prodigal son who came back of his own accord in shame and repentance. Matt25:24-28, Striving is also explained in the story of the talents.
---Emcee on 3/21/08

When one refuses to believe anything else it is hard to help them understand what I am saying. So since you don't understand and I don't know how else to explain it to you, when my explanation has been simple to understand, lets just agree that you believe a person can't help themselves. Question: If a person can't help themselves, how do they expect anyone else to help them?
---Rebecca_D on 3/21/08

Rebecca...I don't call that "helping yourself", I call that being obedient to what God is telling you to do and being willing to take His direction. It's being submitted to God and then doing what He has asked you to do. That is what it means when the Bible tells us...having done all you can, now stand. God gives us the direction, we do our part and then rely on Him for the outcome. He is the first part of the equation, not us.
---Holly4jc on 3/21/08

Holly: Yes he may have asked God for help first, but he sure didn't help himself by trying to save himself. God can't help a person if they aren't willing to help themselves. Jesus said "Do all you can do and stand still. If a person don't help themselves then their not doing all they can do are they?
---Rebecca_D on 3/21/08

1) Thank you for that scripture Rhonda!

And Rebecca...I've heard that story before...cute story. Notice...the man on the roof did ASK God for help first, he did not try and resolve his problem first, on his own. God was faithful and he did send help. Sometimes our expectations of how we expect God to answer our prayers get in the way of receiving what God is providing (the answer to our prayer, but just in a different format).
---Holly4jc on 3/21/08

2) Those who help themselves have their eye on the solution/result that THEY feel should be the outcome and then they do their best to work towards it, rather than asking God for direction first, following His leading and allowing Him to bring the outcome, which is usually a totally different resolution than we expected.
---Holly4jc on 3/21/08

This belief that we should not rely on OUR OWN effort ('Let go and let God' doctrine) and instead rely on God to HELP us repent (Not REPeat our iniquity) is VERY misleading. We are to be responsible for our deeds and avoid repeating our own misdeeds and repentance (SELF discipline).

Colossians 2:18 and 23, "SELF abasement").

We READ the introductory word, Hebrews 6:1.
---greg on 3/20/08

We must move on to maturity in our relationship with Christ (Hebrews 6:1) and discover the "DEPTHS" of God (1 Corinthians 2:10) once we learn SELF discipline from "the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 1:13, John 14:6). Now we must HEAR His voice (John 10:27) and "walk by the SPIRIT" (Galatians 5:16 and 25).
---greg on 3/20/08

Holly & Rhonda: Continued: By now the water was at the roof top. The man was crying cause God didn't save him from the flood. He asked God, why didn't you save and rescue me? I stood on the roof top, but you never came. God said, I sent you a boat and a helicopter and you refused both. The moral of this story is, the man asked God to help, God tried to help but the man refused. He didn't help himself by getting in the boat or the helicopter. So how could God have helped him when he didn't help himself?
---Rebecca_D on 3/20/08

Rhonda: I said the statement God helps those who helps themselves, not Holly. And when one thinks about it, yes God does help those who helps themselves. I never said this statement was in the bible. Take two people who eat the same thing everyday. But one works out, while the other one sits on the couch. The one that worked out lost a few pounds, but the couch potato didn't. Why? Because the one that worked out helped themselves by working out, while the other one didn't help them self at all.
---Rebecca_D on 3/20/08

Bruce: One doesn't start a relationship all over again each day. They repent everyday as we are told to do so. I was meaning that just one unrepented sin will keep a person out of heaven. The bible says when one backslides and falls back into sin, in order for them to come back to God, they have to repent of their sins and do their first works over. Rev 2:5. We are told to ask God to search our hearts to see if there be anything hidden. If there is, then we need to repent or it will be unrepented.
---Rebecca_D on 3/20/08

Peter: A Christian must repent everyday of their sins. Yes God does know we are not perfect. That is why we need him everyday. We need to put more of his word on us and in our heart so this flesh will die daily. The more word we put on, the more the flesh will die. Holly: So when Christ said do all you can do and stand still, that is considered a false teaching and Christ lied. Continued:

Holly & Rhonda: A story. Here came a flood and most of the people were rescued before the flood got bad. This man went up to his roof top and stood asking God to save him, rescue him. Water was rising. A boat came along they told the man, come in the boat buddy, the water is rising. The man said no, I'm waiting on God. The boat left, water kept rising. A helicopter came by, let down a harness. They told him, Put the harness on, the water is rising. The man said No, I'm waiting on God. Continued:

God does not help those who help themselves ...if you help yourself may be helping yourself in the WRONG direction may workout and with a whole lot more effort then if you turned it over to God

Holly asked Emcee to show her where in Gods Word he found this statement ...Emcee replied with no scripture just something a little mystical

Mark 10:27
Jesus said ...With men it is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible
---Rhonda on 3/20/08

#1 ... If each would read the other carefully and look to understand rather than to criticise, I think Emcee and Holly would realise tjhey are closer to each other than they realise.
"God helps those who helps themselves" is grammatically a rather meaningless phrase.
---alan_of_UK on 3/20/08

#2 ...How can one help themselves?
"Help" implies a partnership, & Can you have partnership with yourself?
So what does it mean? It means that God will help those who strive to do good, or live a good life, or to follow God's plan.
Now Holly says you can't do this by yourself, & you need to ask God to help you, and "God does help".
And Emcee says that God will help you if you do strive.
You both seem to be saying the same thing!!

That's Okay, Emcee. We all do make mistakes at times. I probably made the most (don't quote that).
---frances008 on 3/19/08

Emcee....I have absolutely no idea what you said in your makes no sense at all. Your posts are usually pretty hard to understand (as many folks have have pointed out in the past) but this one takes the cake!
---Holly4jc on 3/19/08

1) I stand on my posts...God does not help those who help themselves. If they can help themselves they would not need God. God does help those who humble themselves before Him, admit that they are a sinner and that they cannot help themselves and then ask God to help them to walk the Christian walk and help them to be obedient to His will in their lives. Those people who are submitted to Him and cry out for Him to help them, those...He loves to help.
---Holly4jc on 3/19/08

2) Those who think they can help themselves do what they want and then expect God to bless it and help them accomplish their own will, those people are just full of pride. Non-Christians help themselves all the that mean God is helping them to help themselves? No...God helps those who submit to Him...He helps them to fulfill their destiny in Him as they walk in faith being obedient to Him.

Emcee...that is a false teaching from the pit of hell. God does NOT help those who help themselves, He helps those who admit that they CANNOT help themselves and totally rely on HIM for EVERYTHING. When I am WEAK, He is STRONG. People who believe they can help themselves are full of pride and do not need God.

Emcee, my guess, from my experience here since around Jan 2008, is that any Christian on this blog gets exhausted after a constant barage of insults. I am in no way related to any Helen of Australia. She probably is having a rest, if she was on God's team.

Dear Rebecca. If we are truly a Spirit-filled believer, what happens when we sin is that we grieve the Holy Spirit, and suspend His ministering. I sin every day; thus I ask God to wash my soul clean with the Blood of Christ each morning (and night!), and to supply me with the strength not repeat the same sin again. WE ARE WEAK WHEN WE ARE STRONG. God knows we are not perfect, and that we will continue to fall down. But his mighty hands are extended to us, ready to pull us up. I hope this helps.
---Gary_L. on 6/22/07

Rebecca, I don,t agree with you. You don't have to start over again. If you really knew God, you would know that He is a forgiving God and a restoring God. God is not like man, where we must prove ourselves again. If we all had to go back to the beginning, we would get nowhere. God knows us more then we know ourselves. We must turn from sin, but we don't have to start over again. Starting over again seems right to man, but God's grace knows best. John is right.

Yes John, God has done this with me. He has been so wonderful to me over the years. I do not deserve His grace. He does not reguire for us to go back and start all over again. If we have to start over again, it's like being introduced to God again, and He already knows us. YOU CAN ONLY BE BORN AGAIN ONCE. There is nowhere in the Bible that says different. It's like saying that Purgatory is real. It's not in the Bible but some make up their own rules. Spend time with God and He shows you.
---Marie on 3/24/07

I have asked you this before without recieving an answer.

You say:Rickey: "If a person falls from grace and go back into sin, if they come back to God, they must certainly start their relaionship with God all over again."

You also admit to sinning every day.
---BRUCE5656 on 3/24/07

Here is the question.

If, as you say, one sin is enough to destroy that relationship, then, by your reasoning, every day we must "begin over" with God, how can one ever grow in God to maturity? How do you expect to mature?
---BRUCE5656 on 3/24/07

This is ridiculous. You can't be Born Again more then once. This is not a game. It's like trying to crucify Christ all over again. A Christian is born of water (Natural birth) and born of the spirit (of God), That's it. If you think you can be born again a second time, you were not born again. This is the reason that we must stay in God's Word. The truth is inside.

John; Yes God may pick up back up, but a person still has to start all over. It is like a marriage. If one cheats on their spouse, and they confess and ask for forgiveness, and the spouse forgives them, they won't pick up where they left off. They have to work on their relationship, work on their trust. When one backslides, they lost their true love, which is Christ. Did you read Heb 6:4-6? Notice it says renew. renew means to make new again.
---Rebecca_D on 3/22/07

1. Rebecca, I have to disagreee. If, God forbid we backslide, and then we repent and come back, we don't have to go back and start over again. Like I said we must repent and make a firm commitment and turn around and live for Him again, but He picks us right back up and fully restores us.
---John on 3/22/07

2. The reason I know is, because of the parable of the prodical son. His Father welcomed him back, put fine garments on him , a ring on his finger and put on a feast. He did not make him start at the beginning again. This is how God is. He has so much more understanding then we do. Another reason I know is because I backslid once and God restored me fully and beyond my imagination. This is very humbling, because I realized, I did not diserve this goodness. That was many years ago. He is good. God bless.

---lorra8574 on 3/22/07

Helen, Pharisee is right. You see Jesus saved us without us doing anything else but accepting His free gift of salvation. This is right and gives only God the glory. Eph. 2:8 "For by GRACE are ye saved through FAITH; Not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: 2:9 Not of WORKS, lest any man should boast". The works follow. Eph. 2:10 " For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good WORKS, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
---John on 3/21/07

Jesus said you must be born of the water and the spirit or you could not enter the kingdom of heaven (which is the church).
Spirit gives you the Word which convicts of sin, are baptised (submersed) in water for the remission of your sins, you rise to walk in a new life. This in like manner to Christ's death, burial and resurrection (as Paul said "obey from the heart that form of doctrine").
We die to sin, buried in the watery grave of baptism, rise to walk a new life in Christ Jesus.

Can only agree with Scripture that one must be born again in order to see the Kingdom of God. But the question we have today is what characterizes the Christian after he is born again? A person can only be born again once. If that person should fall away from God and fall into sin, then that person must start all over with God. Meaning, conviction must come upon them, repentence and then asking forgiveness. any other way, it won't work.

tommy3007, (Hebrews 6:4-6) Is about backsliding, God is saying the very [opposite] of what you said, that a person CAN fall from Grace/lose their salvation, if they go back into darkness.

The Word must be read as [a whole], under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus died for our sins. Our sins are passed over. But to ignore sin as nothing is to pass-over our sanctification by the blood of the son of God. People who do this scar there conscience.
