Even if it's a parable, isn't it still true?

Doesn't a parable express truth?

I personally do not think that the story of Job is a parable. I believe Job and his friends were real people. When Jesus spoke in parables his listeners knew that they were parables. There never seems to be any indication that some people thought they were real events. The way they were told simply indicated that they were stories with a message on morality and God's truth.

Is the book of Job historical? I guess it is, it's in the Bible!

Alan; You are not alone on this, Did he really get better looking girls than he first had ,that were in effect, murdered by satan? It was purportedly written by Moses, who of course, was not there! One must then assume it was Divinely inspired!

The Bible is The Word of God. If God said, I believe it, that settles it. Fact or fiction, it is the truth of the words that matter.

** Jack ... When Jesus said we should forgive 70 x 7, did He mean exactly 490 times?
I think not ... He meant unceasingly**

I agree with you, but how many people would interpret this with a childish and pedantic exactitude? Don't reject the idea out of hand; these blogs are full of them.

the truth is in God,and him only.I will say it is in his word also, but men distort, and misinterupt it so much that we question it till it makes or fits our thinking.though we do this the truth is still the truth whether we accept it or not.

I believe Job (in the book of Job) was a real historical (not a fictitious) figure. Also, I believe he's as real as or perhaps even the very same Job listed in Genesis 46:13. Bible geneaology is very purposeful & intentional.

But it would be interesting, now that there seem to be a large new batch of new bloggers, to get views from others!

according to Ezek 14:14&20 and James 5:11 he was a real person. The events are therefore probably real but the speaches are probably more of a dramatic poem than the accual speaches given by these individuals

Jack ... EXACTLY!!!
I believe that Truth is not the same as exact literal historical accuracy.
But I have been shot down here many times for that point of view.
