John 6:54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:56
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.

The passages then say many of Christ's disciples left Him. Was it because they believed he said we must be cannibals? No.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/10/07

3)
They knew exactly what he meant. The idea of having to hunger and thirst for all Christ in order to be saved was something they didn't like to hear. Believing he existed for salvation is a lie. We must also follow Him, and His teachings, which is what these passages are talking about. Devouring and hungering for all of Christ.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/10/07

Alan I guess the reason why this bugs me is this. If a person means they believe Jesus existed when they say "I believe in Christ" I would rather them say "I believe Christ existed." The reason is when Jesus Himself said "Believe in Me" he did not mean "believe I existed." Even the demons do that. There are even atheists that believe Jesus was a man who really walked the Earth. This is how I know Jesus didn't mean "believe I existed."
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/10/07

Matthew You say "Because I believe in Christ I believe Him when he said "My father won't forgive you if you don't forgive others."
I say "Because I believe Christ I believe Him when he said "My father won't forgive you if you don't forgive others."
We mean the same thing, but say it differently.
We must be careful not to accuse others of beiong wrong over this sort of difference!!
---alan_of_UK on 10/10/07

Rebecca: you're right. Sometimes I just get doubtful of it all. "...whoever believe's in Me shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life".
---sue on 10/10/07

"But I certainly would NOT say "I believe the government" because they have shown on so many occasions that they are not to be believed."

When it comes to Jesus I know "believing in Christ" includes "believing Christ." I don't believe those who say "I believe most of what Jesus taught but not all" will make it to heaven. Some make that statment inadvertantly on these blogs.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/9/07

2)
Because I believe in Christ I believe Him when he said "My father won't forgive you if you don't forgive others." Just for the record believing in Santa, faeries etc. are all based on human faith(believing). We can do the same with Jesus, which is have a faith that is human and does not come from God. Such a faith is dead and empty.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/9/07

3)
That is why we have so many who say they believe in Christ yet through their actions show they aren't saved. Do they believe Christ existed? Yes. Do they truly believe in Christ? No. It's a human faith they have. A faith which is dead and empty.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/9/07

Matthew, you are using the gospels to set the precedent of the new covenant when Jesus was walking under the law before He died and rose again. The new covenant precedent is:

Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
---Linda on 10/9/07

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

1Jn 2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
---Linda on 10/9/07

In the New Covenant instituted upon Jesus being seated at the right hand of God, we forgive because we have been forgiven already. Notice the past tense "hath forgiven" and "having forgiven" and the present tense "are forgiven". The "even as" denotes something that is true and received as truth.
---Linda on 10/9/07

A true understanding of the forgiveness of God and what exacted it will bring a flow of it in your life...a divine flow. For someone who doesn't believe he made a choice to respond to God's goodness, you sure do have to make a lot of choices to receive as His child. If you did not start out with a choice, you won't be living with choices or ending with one. He's too consistent to begin one way and end another.
---Linda on 10/9/07

Cynthia,

I believe you are refering to Heb. 12:14.

First of all, Paul is speaking to Christians that are saved.

Paul starts the chapter by encouraging us to "run with patience". We are not in a sprint, but a marathon here in time.

Then Paul encourages us to enduring chastening from our Father (vs. 6-11).

Next Paul says to walk the "straight way", here in time (vs. 13).
---trey on 10/9/07

Cynthia, (continued)

In vs. 14 he mentions following peace, and is speaking of seeing the Lord here in time.

1 Cor 13:12 Paul tells us that here in time we see through a glass darkly. We see a hint of our Lord here, but one day we will see him face to face!

Hope that helps.

Salvation thru the blood of Jesus makes one holy. Sanctification is a second work of grace that makes one pure.
---Gayla on 10/9/07

Matthew ... #1 was going to agree with what you say about "beleiving in"
But we have to be careful about imposing word and sentence structure on other people because they might express their thoughts in different ways.
For example "I beleive in fairies (or witches)" would clearly mean that I beleived they existed, not that I expected them to look after me.

Matthew ... #2 Similarly ... I would say "I beleive in our government" because that means that I believe the government exists.
But I certainly would NOT say "I believe the government" because they have shown on so many occasions that they are not to be believed.
---alan_of_UK on 10/9/07

Mima if I told you, "I believe in you" does that mean I believe you existed? No, of course not, it goes much deeper than that. To believe in CHrist is to believe in everything he taught. Everything he stood for and everything he was.

Matthew 6:15
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

To believe in Christ means to believe what he said here.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/9/07

Catherine, I realize now (my last post for today) that many of my responses today were replies to what people have said to you. I don't know why that is so. Don't take it personally. Maybe God has a reason to why he wanted me to do that. Maybe it will help your faith, I don't know. God bless.
---Matthew_from_LA on 10/9/07

In addition,
Romans 3:-26. 21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified FREELY by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
---Christina on 10/9/07

Romans 5:17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
---Christina on 10/9/07

The reason that I am going to Heaven is because my sin has been paid for by Jesus Christ. His blood paid the price that was demanded, willingly He gave His life for us all so that we can have eternal life through Him. I am found in HIM. When God sees me He sees the Blood of Christ that has made me righteous IN HIM. Amen..

Some people have the need to work their way to heaven, for lack of love and faith.
The Cross set us free, the just shall live by faith.

Catherine I call your attention to ACTS 16:30-31," And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

"And they said, BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
---mima on 10/8/07

Mima, believeing in Jesus as the Son of God is not all there is to salvation. Believing in God won't cut it either. If you are saved do not take it for granted. The road to heaven is paved with Blood, Sweat, and Tears.
---catherine on 10/8/07

Catherine I'm very impressed with your honesty ."Well, I am saved. But quite often I ask Him, "to please don't forget about me and get me to heaven."
---catherine on 4/1/07
Of course the statement is an open expression of doubt.
How can you justify that statement in light of 1 John 5:13" These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God"

The only way I am going to make it to Heaven is by continually trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and His death on the Cross for me, and His holiness and His righteousness.

C. "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created things, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Nothing in all creation. So who condemns us? If God is for us, who can be against us? This are the words of the Lord. Believe them or not, add to them if you wish, if your heart is willing to.
---frank on 4/5/07

The one's that are saved realize what they are saved from, who saved them. The one's save have the Holy Spirit convicting them of their sins. There is no believers that love to sin, if they love to sin they are not his children, for Christ has given them a new heart. They still have the ability to sin, only that they are not slaves to sin anymore as they once were. If one sin takes the believer to hell, which sin would it be? The only sin that condemns anyone to hell is the sin of unbelief.

B. All come short of the glory of God. Every single person. It is as God says in His word, "Who shall bring a charge against God's Elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us" Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakeness, or peril, or sword?
---frank on 4/5/07

cynthia...i understand what you mean.
It's all about FAITH alone in CHRIST alone.
---JIM on 4/3/07

Yes Jim salvation is a free gift, but it does not come without a price, does that make any sense. Let me put it like this; Not one scripture teaches unconditional grace, or that God gives grace to men who disobey the gospel. If so, then God would be under an obligation to save everybody, even sinners who disobey if He saves even one. Romans 2:11
---Cynthia_1 on 4/3/07

Cynthia....What works can you do to achieve salvation?.........none......so are you saying you have to do works to keep your salvation?
If thats the case...Grace would not be Grace.Salvation is by the Grace of GOD.It is a free gift....but it is not a gift until you accept it.Pray and ask GOD for understanding of the truth.

So, some think once saved, always saved, and some people don't even realize what they are saved from, take away the ten commandments, and what do we have left? Just lazy Christians who sit there and think they have a free ticket to heaven? Do you really think its a free ride? Penance with no repentance=DEATH.
---Cynthia_1 on 4/3/07

Sue; You don't think you will go to heaven? If you abide in God and he in you always, rest assured your going. You are giving Satan so much leverage to keep you down in the valley and fill your head with doubts. It is not a "I think so Salvation" it is "know so Salvation". Why so much negativity in your words?

Mima: I just wrote what Jesus taught us in the bible. Just to let you know, I have trouble with them and am far from becoming perfect in living them. I do my best though. That is all that can be asked, is we do our best to emulate those qualities. It would be easy if there were no people in the world. Sad to say though, there are many people following the ways of the world and don't care about spiritual things. They make us pull our hair out in frustration. lol.
---ashley on 4/1/07

If you went up to an unsaved person and said "turn the other cheek always." Wouldn't they say,"That's crazy?". Why? Because they have no faith. We obey because we have faith. WIthout faith we can't obey Jesus. If I didn't have faith in God I would look at Jesus commanments and say "this isn't for the sane.", but because I have faith I obey all of Jesus commandments. Those that say they have faith but don't obey are liars and are not followers of Christ.
---Matthew on 4/1/07

you will go to heaven for one reason and one only.... Faith in Jesus Christ. " I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me." John 14:6
---Jeff on 3/31/07

It is a false arrogance to boast. Do you repent daily, feed the needy, show charity and love towards everyone. Obey all God's laws in perfection. Do you emulate Jesus in word, thought and action. never swear or defile your body. Jesus took upon Himself our sins, but only if we repent and never commit them again. If you steal. repent. do it again, you did not repent, your former sins return to you. If you lie, lust in your heart, show anger, you will not return to God. Repentence is the key.
---ashley on 3/31/07

There is no thinking about it, I know for sure that I'm going. There is a big difference. If one "thinks" their going to heaven, their not sure. One has to know beyond a shadow of a doubt. I know that I am going to heaven because I am saved by the blood of the Lamb.

Not by works we are saved. That simply means, that we did not do anything to cause God to save us. Absolutely nothing. So who can brag? Now ofcourse, this does not excuse us from good works, after we are saved. Unless ofcourse, you plan to do nothing.
---catherine on 3/30/07

I am not worthy to go to heaven, but Jesus makes it possible. Jesus lives in me. All who are lost do not have Jesus living in them. Jesus paid the wages in full. The wages of sin is death. I no longer have to fear death because of Jesus. Glory to God.

Those with the right faith will be saved. The faith that says "your will be done and not mine" not the faith that says "I'll just believe". If we truly have faith in Jesus then we have faith in His purpose and His teaching. The Good News doesn't end with believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Jesus gave us many commandments to follow. Some want to dance around and make excuses to not have to follow them. God is no respector of persons.

Though not all christian believers I feel from scripture will go to heaven, in Matt ch 7 v 21 the bible makes it clear that those who do the will of the father will see the kingdom of God therefore we as believers cannot claim that we are going to get into heaven but only Jesus on judgement day will decide our fate.
