My reasons for tithing/giving are simple. God desires and commands it, and I am that grateful for what He has done for and given me. Besides, it all belongs to Him anyway, He is just allowing me the use/stewadrship of it.

I used to help my parents as the "Spirit" led me.
Of course I have always been loving and kind to
them but I realized that "Love" has a way of
getting distracted by the nearest object of its
affection. Then I read Mark 7: 11": But ye say, If a man shall say to
his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free."

That, and reading about the "Tithe" I decided to make a
commitment to my parents, just as I make from time to time
with the bank whenever I buy a car. It does not mean that I
would not do as the "Spirit lead me", much more finacially for
them, but rather that they now have a guaranteed minimum. We
all need guarantees in life. Things like air and water go without
saying, right?

So, to me Tithing is not a curse except we view it as an end in
itself. It is not an end in itself but a beginning, a baseline if you
would. Matthew 23:23: "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and
have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and
faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other
undone." It clearly says, "...and not to leave the other undone."

I hear, is OT or it is NT; it
matters not if it is line with God's goodness. Some people do
equate "Pharisee" with the devil's spawn but Jesus said:
Matthew 23:1: "Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his
disciples, 2: Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses'
seat: 3: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe
and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not."
See "...that observe and do..."?

Edna. God also commanded animals to be slaughtered to compensate for sin. If he is the same yesterday, today, and forever then how come you don't slaughter animals now? God had a plan in the OT. that there would be a NT. His plan in the OT. was to tithe to the Levitical priesthood which He changed and of necessity there was a change of the law (tithing) also. Please read Heb.7:12,18,19. Tithing is OT. law. Giving, as the Spirit leads, is the NT. way.

People should tithe only if they want to be cursed, otherwise it is pointless.

Tithing is a Biblical Principal from the O/T to release prosperity. Malachi 3:8-12. Choosing not to do it, you will not go to hell. It is not punishment, a burden but a benefit. To go on it gives God something to work with other than your faith to prove him. It's also a way of thanking him for his kindness and blessings. It is also a way of thanking your Pastor for Laboring concerning your spiritualfood. It pay the bills to keep churches open.

Yes Christ created the 10 commandments. AND YOU HAD BETTER follow them perfectly because the wages of sin is death. You live by them you will die by them.

I tithe bcos God says so: 2ndly I want to give back what is God's..10% of my wage. 3rdly, I want to help further His work, 4thly bcos I just love giving for God's cause and there are many of it around that need financial help.

Of course, tithing is biblical. In Malacai 3:10, it says "...bring the tithe into the storehouse and see if I will not pour you out a blessing". So, God challenges a person to try him in this area. The reasons to tithe are because God says do it and it brings prosperity. Joy9988

To me, it is a way of saying "thank you for teaching me about God and it is my hope/prayer that you can go on to teach others also, so here is some money to help out." God bless.

Tithing is a teaching of stewardship which believers should be aware of.

All things in this world is entrusted to us as steward of Gods' properties. The world is Gods' creation which means He owns the whole world.

In the Old covenant of God; it teaches the tithing doctrine......

As I believe God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Who commandeth the tithing is the same God we worship today.edna8476

Rebecca D-- What you said is true about tithing. I am finding out that it really is between the born-again Believer and God. However, We had better make sure that we do listen to God on this matter. Very important.

#1 Tithing is biblical, it's in the bible. Tithing is not required from a Christian, giving is. Tithing is not giving, they are not synonyms. Tithing is a requirement always exampled as an act of obediece; Neither Abraham nor Israel had any choice in the matter.
---Ryan_Z on 4/3/07

#2 Giving is an entire attitude of servitude, you are loving and kind to all that you meet serving their needs in front of your own. Tithing is trivial and offensive to the Christian; such a trifle gesture, when God requires so much more.

#3 If a man has brought a good teaching to you feed him, give him a little cash, ask him what he needs and provide what you can for him; he is worthy of his labor, but even the apostle Paul points out:

I Cor 9:14 If others be partakers of [this] power over you, [are] not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

It would be awful to have people saying, "He only preaches because of the money."

I tithe because I am led to by God. I can't tell anyone to tithe or not to tithe or how much. Tithing is between God and each person only. No one should judge anyone for tithing or or not tithing.
