Peter, yes, I believe it was the Curt/Steve chronicles. I read some of those older blogs recently.

Lorra8574 - That may be so. However, when God wrote Proverbs 30:6 He already knew what His whole Word would contain.

MikeM is correct. The Catholic church was based on politics. Big time religion. When I was Catholic, I was not even aware of this. There is plenty of history to prove this.
---Gary on 4/10/07

Helen 5378, Proverbs 30:6 refers to all of God's Word. But who decides what is God's Word and what isn't? Remember that when Proverbs was written, the canon was not yet complete. Not even the OT canon. The canon of the NT was set along with the OT canon at the same time, and nothing has been added to it since. And nothing removed until Martin Luther removed seven books.

Judgment for corrupting God's word refers to any part of the book of scripture, and not only John's book. "Add you not to his words, else he correct you, AND YOU BE FOUND A LIAR. And to ALL THEM LYING ONES, of their part in that lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is second death. And where not at all may enter into the New Jerusalem every profaning, and making an abomination, and a lie, except those having been written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 21:8,27.

Charles-New Testament, it is the written word of God and that alone to which Jesus Christ and His apostles refer as the final authority.

Then why does the "Bible" say "Passage 1 Timothy 3:15:
if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, (which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.")

It was not until 371aD that a canon of 27 books was enforced by a roma Bishop. for the first 300 years there were many books purported as scripture floating around. what became the 'Bible' canon was based on politics of the RCC. Sola scriptora is a man-made concept, coined by luther, 1531Some people are just very ignorant of history.
---MikeM on 4/9/07

NVBarbara - That is correct that Revelation is the only Book of the Bible to not add to. However Proverbs 30:6 refers to the whole of God's Word.

Understood by only a select few? Woah! Be careful here. The Mason's do that, and so do the Mormons. God is truth and the truth is not hid from God's children. Watch these spirits that come in here to minister false teachings.
---John on 4/8/07

Regarded as true by Joe blow? Those who claim to have an understanding? This proves baloney! Get and stick with pure scripture.
gnostic gospel ( from the devil). Those who are His hear His voice. Jesus and the Apostles warned about false teachings like this and Da Vinci codes, especially in the last days. gospel of Phillip, LIE!
---Frank on 4/9/07

There was a guy on here about a year and a half ago, that wanted to write his own gospel. And some were incouraging him. Would you believe it? Last days, man.
---Peter on 4/9/07

Even though Revelation is last, most Biblical scholars do not believe it was the last book to be written among the compiled records. If your reasoning is true, then those Books would also have to be removed from the Bible and discarded as false.
Note the similar wording by Moses found in Deuteronomy 4:2:

"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
---Charles on 4/9/07

When Jesus Christ said, "the Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35), He was speaking of Gods written word. Gods declaration in Scripture is that it and it alone, is this final authority in all matters of faith and morals. There is only one written source from God, and there is only one basis of truth for the Lord's people in the Church.
---Charles on 4/9/07

New Testament, it is the written word of God and that alone to which Jesus Christ and His apostles refer as the final authority. In the temptation, the Lord Jesus three times resisted Satan, saying, "It is written" as for example, in Matthew 4:4, "he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

"It is written," the Lord used the exact phrase in the Holy Bible forty six times. The persistence of the repeated phrase underlines the Lord's total acceptance of the authority of the Old Testament, evident in His words found in Matthew 5:17-18,
"Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfil. For verily, I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled."
---Charles on 4/9/07

If it only applied to Revelation, what would you want to 'add or take away from' that would be acceptable to God?

Is there something you could think of?
---Charles on 4/9/07

Helen, as has been mentioned MANY times before, the only book that the bible says not to add to is that of John's Revelation.
---NVBarbara on 4/8/07

gnostic means "to know", purporting that one who has the knowledge attains heaven's salvation, but these sophists were nonChristian because their doctrines contradicted the doctrine in the Holy Scripture. Gnosticism does not save, for many highly learned people have gone to hel; thus knowledge does not save, but repenting and converting to Christ does.

"What is the meaning of gnostic gospel?"

A doctrine or teaching regarded as true & believed by those that claim to have an understanding of specific knowledge concerning spiritual matters that is meant to be understood by only a select few.

Yes the Gospel of Philip is considered a gnostic gospel.

The Gospel of Phillip is a false gnostic gospel.
---Tommie on 4/7/07

If there is a so-called gospel of Phillip it is not of God, because the Canon of Scripture is completed. God says not to add to His Word (Proverbs 30:6).
---Helen_5378 on 4/7/07

Gospel of Phillip? This world is going to Hell fast. There is no other Gospel. God knows His children, and the one's who are not His, will follow every wind of doctrine because they have been handed over to a reprobate mind. Go out in a crowd and look around you. Most of the people that you see, are going to Hell. Very sad, but true.

Gnostic Gospels are not narretives. They are interesting as they showed what many early Christians believed. The division between Gnostic, esoteric Christians and those claiming apostolic succession was fluid. Of all the books of the NT the Book of John is the 'most gnostic.'

I have heard is said that the gnostics were the 'new agers' of their day, this is probabily true, Christian Science and Religious Science are gnostic religions.
