Gina, sorry to disagree with you, but everyone both wicked & righteous inherit immortality.- Ashley 05/26/07

Ashley, did you even read what I posted? I quoted scriptures to show the wicked will be ASHES under the soles of our feet(Mal 4:3)& the fire leaves them neither root nor branch(Mal 4:1) Sinners are annhilated in the fire; nothing is left of them! You did not quote ANY scripture to back up your belief. Think about that;you have repeated what you have been taught &it is not based on scripture.
---Gina7 on 6/2/07

Malachi 4 is talking about the day of judgement upon the wicked: "For behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea,and all that do wickedly, shall be STUBBLE (does this say burn forever, or does the fire go out & they turn to stubble?),and the day that cometh shall burn them UP(or does it say burn them forever?),saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch (or does it say leave them intact with eternal life, living and burning forever?)"
---Gina7 on 6/2/07

Malachi 4:1 Amplified Bible

"FOR BEHOLD, the day comes that shall burn like an oven, and all the proud and arrogant, yes, and all that do wickedly and are lawless, shall be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch."
---Gina7 on 6/2/07

Malachi 4:2 Amplified Bible

"2But unto you who revere and worshipfully fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings and His beams, and you shall go forth and gambol like calves [released] from the stall and leap for joy."

Who leaps for joy? Who has life? The righteous!
---Gina7 on 6/2/07

Malachi 4:3 Amplified Bible

"And you shall tread down the lawless and wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, says the Lord of hosts."

Who says the wicked will be ASHES under the soles of our feet? The Lord of Hosts. I say we believe him and accept the fact that the wicked DO NOT enherit enternal life!
---Gina7 on 6/2/07

(6) So, "wages" can mean how NOW we in sinning are in a living death > suffering death of joy...a living death of not enjoying God in sweet and sensitive sharing with Him in His love >

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5)

And in sinning we have Satan dragging us along. It IS a d-r-a-g!!!
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(7) I looked up "wages" in my Strong's Concordance Greek dictionary; and it looks like "wages" can mean the "rations" of a soldier.

Rations can be what a soldier gets to eat; but these rations merely make him able to keep on doing the things a soldier does!

And, like this, Satan's spirit will keep feeding us with dead stuff so we keep on being joy-dead and dead to God's peace...so we keep on doing his
love-dead stuff with him.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(8) Jesus is "gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (in Matthew 11:29). Jesus is "gentle and lowly", NOT driving us with cruel feelings and tyrannical emotions so overbearing.

But Jesus in us is LOVING.

"And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son." (1 John 5:11)

This eternal LOVE life has us sweetly and sensitively sharing with God, NOW (Romans 5:5).
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(1) "the wages of sin is death" > this is in Romans 6:23.

(2) "These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual." (1 Corinthians 2:13)

So, the word "death" can mean a SPIRITUAL thing...and NOT what man's wisdom would understand this to mean.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(3) "But she who lives in pleasure is dead while yet she lives."
. . . . . . . . (1 Timothy 5:6)

So, a person can be living in pleasure physically, but be dead spiritually. While going after selfish pleasures, ANY of us can be in a living death of dictatorial emotions driving us after pleasure, and with this all the frustration, and being hurt and unforgiving > a LIVING death!!!
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(4) So, I'd say "death" means SPIRITUAL death, NOW, in THIS life; and Paul says there is "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience", in Ephesians 2:2 > this SPIRIT "now works" in ones to disobey.

This spirit of Satan is nasty, not satisfying...driving people to seek pleasure in order to get mirage satisfaction which does NOT make his deep horribleness go away. His won't-take-no-for-an-answer emotions are dominating...dictatorial.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

(5) So, in sinning we are relating with Satan's vile and filthing and controlling spirit. This spirit is joy-dead, so we can be in a living death of depression's joylessness, or in frustration and nasty raging anger about not getting our treasured pleasures. And unforgiveness degrades us so we can stay hurt. But >

"And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?" (1 Peter 3:13)
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/27/07

WAGES OF SIN is death,if you've accepted God in your life then later go n sin, then your separating yourself from God thru sin.. means your spiritually dead. Unless u confess your sins, u will b dead 2 spiritual sin. text is not talking about fleshly sin but spiritual sin.Rember God gave Israelites the Mosaic Laws 2prepare themselves 4the coming Christ? Animal Sacrifices couldnt save but Christ. When He came, the Mosaic Laws ended as He bcame the Sac/Lamb of God that takes away spiritual sins of the world.
---jana on 5/27/07

Gina, sorry to disagree with you, but everyone both wicked and righteous inherit immortality. to say only the righteous contradicts the bible. the righteous inheriting God's kingdom, the wicked eternal punishment. eternal is immortal. when adam was cast from the garden, mortal and spiritual death entered the world. Jesus broke the bonds of spiritual death by being resurrected. that allows everyone both wicked and righteous to be resurrected and live forever. where we live depends solely on us.
---ashley on 5/26/07

God said the consequences of sin would be death, "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die" Gen 2:17 but the devil told Eve instead "And the serpent said unto the woman "Ye shall not surely die" Gen 3:4. Shall we believe God, who said the 'wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord' Rom 6:23 or do we believe the devil who says the consequences of sin is not death "ye shall not surely die"?
---Gina7 on 5/26/07

Sinners suffering eternally would make them out to be immortal, and only the righteous will be given immortality. (see 1 Corinthians 15:53,54.) "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". Romans 6:23. The wages of sin is DEATH, not living forever in the lake of fire! Death is being dead, not alive. Only LIFE, eternal LIFE, is given to those who do not sin, do not break the 10 commandments.

Jude 7"Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner..are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of ETERNAL FIRE"
II Peter 2:6 "and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ASHES condemed them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly"
Malachi 4:3 "And ye shall tread down the wicked, for they shall be ASHES under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of Hosts"
---Gina7 on 5/26/07

Since the wicked will be ashes under our feet (Malachi 4:3)once the punishment of wicked is over, the fire does go out. The wicked burn day& night until their punishment is overwith. God is just..& the effects are eternal,as nobody is coming back from the second death! The wages of sin is death(Romans 6:23)but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We will walk upon the ashes of the wicked, once the new earth is formed after the fire that destroys the wicked root & branch goes out.

What does Jude verse 7 say? "Even as Sodom & Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication... suffering the vengeance of eternal fire". Show me the eternal fire, still burning, that was once Sodom & Gomorrha, and I will show you the enternal fire of Hell.

God does not want sinners to live forever. "And the Lord God said "Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever; therefore the Lord God sent him from the Garden of Eden...so he drove out the man, and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life" Gen 3:22-24
---Gina7 on 5/26/07

DEATH, this is your payment for living in SIN. Sinners merit HELL, Saints do not merit heaven. The few who makes it to heaven, must thank God and not themselves. This gift is through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is Christ that purchased it, prepares us for it, preserves us to it.>>>>If the fruit is Holy==everlasting life. If you live in Sin>>>you have hell to look forward to.

TS I go by what Jesus taught, the spirit of the Law, not the mere letter of it. For me the Ten Commandments are a mere starting point. If I love God with all my heart and mind and soul, and love my neighbour as my self, I need not worry about the commandments because I will not have broken any of them, whether consciously or unconsciously. If I live my life for God, then what have I to worry about?

The wages of sin is death means because of sin we die. A physical death not a spiritual death if you are born-again. Now this>> It has been asked on here are the sinners conscious in hell? The answer is YES. Words related to hell is gehenna, hades, and Sheol. A place of conscious, existence, and judgment, my friend.++
---catherine on 5/22/07

lorra: We agree on that!

If Sin is the breaking of the Commandments; and Sin exists in our world...Do the Commandments still exist?

If you Keep the Commandments do you sin?
We are known by our fruits. Obedience to Life or sin unto death.
Paul under inspiration said "shall we sin, that grace abound? God forbid!"
---TS on 5/3/07

Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
Romans 6:15 "What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid."
Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

Romans can be a little hard to sort out but how you live shows your allegiance.

Sin is the transgression of the law, or in other words, the breaking of the law. Some christians who do not follow the law, still somehow believe in sin, if sin is the breaking of the law, what law are they breaking? And they still tithe, which is of the same law. (I am a messianic jew, if you haven't noticed). Matthew 5 says I didn't come to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fullfill....later on it says that those who teach not to keep the law will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.

Yes Jana,
If we love Him, we WILL obey...
Perfect love produces perfect obedience.
If you love Him, you will never leave Him.
If HE loves you, HE will be with you always.
As long as we live in the flesh, we will never overcome sin. Thank God Jesus came and distroyed sin for us......(His love for us)
---duane on 4/26/07

absolutely Duane however, a faithful son can also get lost if he wanders and not return into the fold. And that to me is sinning too. We all have love in our hearts for God if we obey law for He said in John 14:15 "IF YOU LOVE ME, OBEY MY COMMANDS" all of them and sure, if we repent He forgives isnt it great?
---jana on 4/26/07

duane: So glad that you attest to being "perfect".

1st_cliff, not lambs, since there would have been no time for them to have been conceived and born.

But certainly some animals were killed, and this is the first recorded death of nephesh chayyah. Since the Bible is progressive revelation, this first shedding of blood foreshadows the Lev. 17:11 teaching that there is no forgiveness without it, which in turn foreshadows the shedding of Messiah's blood.
---Ktisophilos on 4/25/07

1stCliff - Sorry for delaying in replying to you. The Scripture is Genesis 3:21 ("Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them").
---Helen_5378 on 4/24/07

In Genesis 3:21 says God made Adam and Eve coats of skin and clothed them. It doesn't say what kind of skin. So Catherine was partly right. Coats of skin were often used with rams and badger's. Ex 25:5, Nu 4:8. In Heb 9:22 says and ALMOST all things are covered by the blood. It doesn't say just all, but almost all.

Jana,
I think of it differently.
Sin is and will be in the world but sin has no power(cant cause death) for the born again. We are the forgiven and the justified through HIS blood and life. If we live by faith there is no more condemnation. Can a faithful son be lost?
We serve through love, not law...love wont fail.
---duane on 4/24/07

Duane: if sin is dead, then why are there still wars and sin in the world?? Sin is still here. Christ died so we can be restored spiritually with God again when we sin. We dont die in the flesh but spiritually and once we recognise that sin and repent, God forgives...thats the beauty about it.
---jana on 4/24/07

God told Adam that if he disobeyed, he would die (Gen. 2:17). When Adam disobeyed, he was cursed with death, which must have included the physical aspect (return to the dust Gen. 3:19). He was also cut off from the Tree of Life. This death through sin passed on to all his descendants (Rom. 5:12-19). Jesus, the Last Adam, died physically to pay for our sins, then rose from the dead physically to show that He has conquered death, "the last enemy" and removed its sin (1 Cor. 15:21-22,25,45).
---Ktisophilos on 4/24/07

Finally, in the New Earth, there will be no more death or pain or crying, because God will have nullified the curse and restored the Tree of Life (Rev. 21:4, 22:2-3).

Evolution and long-age views totally undermine this vital connection between sin and death, thus undermining the Gospel.

1stCliff - When God killed the lambs and took their skins to cover Adam and Eve, it was a foreshadow of the coming sacrifices of animals in the temple. Most importantly, it was a foreshadow of Jesus Christ the true Lamb of God who was to die on the Cross for the sin of the world." "..without shedding of blood there is no remission (of sin)" (Hebrews 9:22).
---Helen_5378 on 4/23/07

Physical death is a natural progression from one state to the next.Spiritual death is a total separation from God & Heaven.Jesus died as MAN on a cross 1.to show us that we all had the ability to conquer sin, even to the point of death."He who loses His life for my sake saves it"2.In obedience to His Father he died so as to open the gates of Heaven which had been closed due to Mans sin.Otherwise why would He seek Perfection from US,& leave us hHis Church & all the aids to reach that Perfection.
---Emcee on 4/23/07

Helen; What bible version says that God used "lambs" to clothe A&E? I don't know how you feel about fashion but animal skins make better covering than fig leaves! You're reading things into your belief system that's not really there. Stick with what's written without putting a personal spin on it. Animals don't give up their hides voluntarily, they needs be killed to get them. There's no suggestion of sin covering mentioned.

duane:The bad news for you is Jesus said "Go and sin no more."

Sin is the transgression of the Commandments. He covers transgressions but does not give license to steal.

All who practice "Lawlessness" will be told "Depart from Me."
Without Law there is no sin. Without sin no death. Without death no need for a Savior. Do away with the Law and you do away with God.

Under the law, the wages of sin is death.
Jesus fulfilled the law, by paying the debt.
We are now set free from sin. Price paid in full. Debt forgiven. Sin has no power........
God Has now reconciled the world to Himself, through Christ, not counting mens sins against them. We can now have life.
...This is the good news...
---duane on 4/23/07

The wages of Sin is death (Rom 6:23). This is means two things.

1)Spiritual death ( Ephesians 4:18, Ephesians 2:5, Colossians 2:13, etc). A man without Christ is spiritually dead. Those who live in sin are spiritually dead. When we are born again, the spiritual death is reversed.

2)Physical death- A physical death is the separation of the soul from the body. When Adam and Eve sinned there brought into the world the punishment of physical death and spiritual death.
---Ramon on 4/23/07

WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH. means death to spiritual life, not fleshly life. If your a believer and you sin , your spiritual life will cease and if you know you have wronged and therefore repent of it, God says He will forgive any sin. So therefore, you are restored again in your spiritual life..I havent got my Bible at present but that is what I understand it to be..death to spiritual life or leading.

1stCliff - Adam did die spiritually when he sinned. However, God then slaughtered the lambs and covered Adam and Eve with their skins, a type of the Cross of Christ where Jesus Christ was the Lamb of God. So Adam was then saved and spiritually alive. When he died, which was then only physical, he went to Heaven.
---Helen_5378 on 4/22/07

Helen; You differ from the others on here ,most believe that the moment he sinned in Eden he died spiritually (they call it seperation from God) then after 930 yrs died physically. what's left of Adam to live on? In your mind did Jesus die spiritually or physically on Calvary (or both)?

If the penalty of sin was not physical death then why did Jesus have to physically die to pay our penalty?

Many liberals don't believe Jesus actually died but they aren't to be followed as they progressively believe less & less about more & more of Scripture until they believe nothing about everything!

Our Saviour really created this earth & really came to really die in our place so we could really be saved & really spend a real eternity with Him. And I'm really happy about this!

The wages of(or payment for) sin is death. That is true in many ways. Death is simply the end to something.
1. If a spouse cheats on the other, the wages of that sin is death to that marriage.

2. If a person lies to someone & the other finds out, that puts an end to trust.

The reward for sin is death or an end to something.

then Sin has a wage attached to it, which is Eternal Death for ALL. But thanks be to God, for the free gift of Jesus Christ, who

The just payment for those who willfully miss the mark of mans high calling of the Father in & thru Christ by a blatant refusal to take heed to that call & the prompting of His Spirit to believe, accept, acknowledge & confess Him as LORD of salvation is death. Death as the eventual, ultimate cessation of life on any level of existence. Even the memory of those who refuse his gift of life will perish. They will be remember no more, this is the second & final death.
---joseph on 4/19/07

I believe the next part of the sentence explains it very well. But the gift of God is eternal life. So the wages if sin is eternal death.
With Christ as our savior we will not experience the wages of sin as He already paid the penalty.
