Sorry, but you guys are thinking like 21st century North Americans. In order to understand the Messiah's "week" of hours on the Cross, you'll need to think like 1st century Jews.
Once again, from the third hour to the ninth hour inclusive is 7 hours, not 6. Do the math, guys. |

About six hours. Because of the torture those wicked men in power gave Him. The merciless beatings He received, He was only on the cross for six hours. |

The third hour, according to first century Jewish thinking, would have been hour #1, the fourth hour would have been hour #2, the fifth hour would have been hour #3, the sixth hour would have been hour #4, the seventh hour would have been hour #5, the eighth hour would have been hour #6, and, finally, the ninth hour would have been hour #7. Apparently then the Lord Jesus would have been on the cross for a total of seven hours altogether. |

Rammon is correct. The answer is 6 hours. The last three hours there was darkness.
Mr 15:25 And it was the third hour(9:00 a.m.), and they crucified him.
Mt 27:45 Now from the sixth hour (noon) there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour (3:00 p.m.).
Christ was on the cross 6 hours. They had to get him and the theives off their crosses and into their tombs before 6:00 p.m., which was the begining of the Sabbath, in order to no break Jewish law. |

Jesus was on the cross long enough to pay for our sins. |

I do not know how long Jesus was on the cross. I really don't care how long he was on the cross. All that matters is he paid the way and broke the doors that we may go to God ourselves without the preacher. But in Jesus name we can pray directly to Him. Then he died yes. And laid for 3 days. And on that 3rd day he arose from the dead and ascended back to Heaven. Thank you Jesus! He was up that long enough. |

.ramon, According to the scriptures the Jewish hours were measured 12 hours for the day, and 12 hours for the night; that is, from daybreak or sunrise which was between 6 o'clock and 7 o'clock in the morning up to sunset which was 6 o'clock in the evening. Thus the 1st hour was 6 a.m. and the 6th hour was 12 noon. Please read Psalm 104:22,23; John 11:9,10. |

#2 Matthew 27:45- From noon until 3:00 p.m. The crucifixion began at 9:00 a.m. Luke 33:44- noon to 3:00 p.m. Luke was using the Jewish method of reckoning time.
Jesus was on the cross for Six hours. He was nailed to the cross at 9:00 a.m in the morning, and was dead by 3 in the afternoon. |

Helen 5378. The crucifixion occurred at 9.00 a.m. based on the Jewish method of reckoning time. John notes that it was "about the sixth" when Pilate sentenced Jesus to be crucified (John 19:14). John apparently used the Roman method of reckoning time, which counted the hours from midnight. Thus, John's "sixth hour" would have been about 6.00 a.m.
Mark used the Palestinian method. The Roman day began at midnight, and the Palestinian day began at sunrise. |

Eloy - What about Mark 15:25 which says that Jesus was crucified at the third hour? Do you know if that is correct, making it six hours that Jesus was alive on the Cross? |
|
---Helen_5378 on 4/26/07 |
Jesus was alive on the cross for 3 hours: From the 6th hour (ie: 12 noon) until the 9th hour (ie: 3pm)- ref: Matthew 27:45; and remained hanging dead on the cross for 3 hours: From the 9th hour (ie: 3pm) until the 12th hour (ie: 6pm evening)- ref: Mark 15:42-46. "Thereupon being third time; and crucified him. And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost." Mark 15:25,33,37. |

I am not 100% sure, but it had to be in the hours because people couldn't live that long on the Roman cross. |

The Jewish day, that is like our midday, started at 6.00 am. Hence Jesus breathed out His last at the ninth hour, which in fact was 3.00 p.m. |
|
---Helen_5378 on 4/25/07 |
Jesus was on the cross for 9 hours. Even though he bowed his head and died on the 9th hour, he was still on the cross. |

Jesus was on the Cross for six hours. Mark 15:25 says "Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him". Matthew 27:46 and Luke 23:44 both record that "there was darkness over all the earth till the ninth hour" and that Jesus then breathed His last. |
