.carla, Do you have no reading comprehension? Read what I posted, and not what I did not post. I posted: "I would NOT beat them with a Bible." So how did you Wrongly obtain to beat someone with a Bible?
---Eloy on 11/11/08

What to pray if someone chucks ice cream in your face? I'd pray, "Lord show me a different approach in bringing them the Gospel."
---Donna66 on 11/10/08

What are you converting to?
---atheist on 11/10/08

Eloy,

'' beat someone with the bible''

PLEASE!

WHERE IN THE BIBLE YOU PROFESS TO FOLLOW DID Jesus TEACH US TO HIT ANYONE?

rather TO ''turn the other cheek'' you may HAVE just won a soul and not get arrested yourself for Assault!
---Carla3939 on 11/10/08

.rebecca, I would not beat them with a Bible, you should learn what holiness is? It is best to have them arrested. And of a truth people do repent, from behind bars they can think about their crime, and learn to not do it again. But if you do nothing, your nonaction tells the criminal that his assault is ok and you are participating in the crime.
---Eloy on 11/10/08

sue, if a person does not want to hear the preacher, then walk away. And when you are violent like this, don't expect pity, for jails are made for people like this and not pity. Pity comes after the offender repents, and not before. Should I sin Paul says, so that grace may come to me? God forbid, he answers. Know that God has perfect judgment and wrath for the wicked, and not pity. Like I said, if this lawbreaker would have thrown the ice cream at my face he would be stewing behind bars for his crime.
---Eloy on 5/26/07

Rebecca: I agree! What I would want to hear from a street preacher is how being a Christian has changed his life for the better, how it helped him. I would want to hear him talking in a happy positive voice, not preaching angerly. NOT what will happen if I dont do this or that. This is just my humble opinion.
---sue on 5/25/07

When most people witness to sinners, they bark alot on hell. Most if not all people already know about hell. So don't tell them what they already know. Tell them about the love of Jesus Christ and what all he has done. The best witness is to share your testimonies with others.
---Rebecca_D on 5/23/07

Eloy: Not financially poor, but mentally in Christ poor. Heck yes we should pity them. I pity anybody who doesn't believe in God. But I seriously doubt the guy who threw the ice cream was rejecting Christ, he was probably rejecting you. I am sorry if this sounds disrespectful but sometimes people are just not in the mood.
---sue on 5/23/07

Eloy, I am not sure if you are asking for advice or tips on how to witness in public? And I'm afraid my last post was kind of mean. It's just that a lot of people dont want a stranger to get in their face and shove their religon down their throats. It makes some people real mad. So, thats my tip. God bless you Eloy.
---sue on 5/23/07

sue, who says that they are poor, or that they are to be pitied? what do you think?
---Eloy on 5/20/07

.alan, I present the gospel, and if an enemy objects, then that one is self-condemned. We are told to use righteous discernment and not to cast our pearls in front of swine. We are told that when evangelizing if someone does not receive us, we are to wipe their clinging dust off of our feet against them, and that it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Amorah then for them in the day of Judgment.
---Eloy on 5/20/07

Eloy said: "...These receive God's fury and vengeance, and not his mercy and lovingkindness..."
So, Eloy, dont you think we should pray for these poor people if we fail to help them and let God do the vengeance part?
---sue on 5/20/07

alan, Jesus did not whip those he loved out of the temple, he was not friends with all, nor made a heaven for everybody. Know that Jesus made a lake of fiery hell and eternal torment, not for those whom he loves, but for those whom he called, the cursed, the sinuous, the damned, the goats, the children of the devil, the brood of vipers, the friend of the world and the enemy of God, the hated, the whited tombs, the burning tares. These receive God's fury and vengeance, and not his mercy and lovingkindness
---Eloy on 5/20/07

.alan, what was the message Jesus declared? I will tell you, I am God, Repent and receive me, and you will have eternal life with me in the New Jerusalem; but Reject me and I also will Reject you in front of my Father in heaven and in front of the holy angels. Those whom rejected him, have also rejected their only Salvation and will receive their part in the lake of fire and brimstone which Jesus prepared.

Eloy ... you say "I choose my own friends, and whom I will talk to and whom I don't talk to"
Then you are unlike Jesus, whose spirit yuo claim to have, because did He not come, and give His message, for everybody?
---alan_of_UK on 5/18/07

Another view: We as christians need to learn to use common sense and wisdom. If I am converting on the streets, no one has a right to abuse me. I will pray and ask for God's protection and guidance. If I am in a very hot area, a lot of persecution, I might want to think this through and move if I have to. Otherwise, I will stand for Christ and be willing to die for Him but I won't deliberately put myself, in harm's way.
---Robyn on 5/18/07

Benny Hinn,(televangelist) came to Tx a few yrs ago. He was heavily protected with bodyguards and guns, I think. Also heard TD Jakes carries a weapon among other ministers that I know of. No one has to deliberately walk into a war zone ,but I am committed enough to die for Christ. I won't deny Him.We have a right to protect our lives and that of our loved ones. God has not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, and of love and of a sound mind..II Tim 1:7.
---Robyn on 5/18/07

Sue is right, if you can not take the heat get out of the kitchen. God expects His people to remain godly through it all. I also know enough to know, that,it is not always so easy. You need the help of God. We, God's people, must die to self. Also not so easy. You need help from God. Also God warns us, "Not to be like those people down there". We,God's people, are DIFFERENT.++

Yes, it does take a special person.
They have to pry themselves off the couch, and away from the TV preachers. You can't wear pajamas downtown, actually have to put some clothes on and wash your face.
---Toby on 5/18/07

Thats why it takes a really special type of person to street witness. Somebody with tons of grace, patience and understanding of humans. Of course there is no excuse for his actions but he is only human. Who knows what he went through before you were preaching at him? Maybe that was just the last straw. I'm thinking he needs your prayers, not your beatings.
---sue on 5/18/07

Jesus got mad because the money changers were cheating other people and turning His Father's house into a den of theives. He didn't get angry because somebody hurt Him. You got mad because a guy hurt you. Forgive me if I'm wrong but it sounds like your pride was hurt. Yes, I said pride. When people hurt Jesus, he said Father forgive them...he didn't get angry.
---sue on 5/18/07

.rebecca, What do you think Jesus used to drive them out of his church? He beat them with the whip which he made for that purpose. And they never came back. Likewise to all whom fleece the sheep turning God's santuary into a den of robbers with their pseudo-gospel, that of requiring tithes and money for ministering, which Christ never commanded the minister to charge. He never said, "You pay me 10% first, and then will I minister to you, pray for you, and heal you." That is sacrilege.

Eloy: I know Jesus drove out sinners from the temple. I've already said that in my reply on 5/15. But he didn't beat up on them.
---Rebecca_D on 5/17/07

.rebecca, Jesus driving the sinners out of the Temple is a recorded historical fact. John 2:14,15 from lit.Gk: "And he found in the Temple them selling bullocks and young sheep and doves, and them coin changers sitting; and having made a whip out of green stems he drove out all them out of the Temple, and the young sheep and them bullocks and the money-chargers, pouring out the coins and overturning the tables." Jesus never did beat the people that sold things in the temple. He got upset, threw the tables and the seats, and told them that his house will be called a house of prayer but I don't read where he beat them. That has nothing to do with the question that was asked. But I do agree with Eloy, (Ryan Z/Observer) a person must repent before receiving forgiveness from God. God doesn't forgive if one doesn't repent over their sins. So you would yell at someone and throw ice cream in their face? Mt 5:43-48.
---Rebecca_D on 5/15/07

.observer, I don't respond to strangers yelling to me from a croud. I sense that you are trying to humor me. What's Amish ice cream? Ice cream with molasses in it? There's one that Turkey Hill used to make a while back, but discontinued. I phones them, but they refuse to remake it again, so I refuse to buy any more of their ice cream. Breyers makes a good one, and there's one called Mexico from Tropicale Foods that tastes pretty good.
---Eloy on 5/15/07

Well then, .eloy, when you hear me yelling to you from the crowd, "Hey there, Eloy!" you will know it is me. Besides some of those Amish people make some good ice cream, do you not agree?

.eloy: The forgiveness comes after the repenting from wrong. NOPE!

Forgiveness comes first from the believer because it came first from Christ, unconditionally. Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Forgiveness is also for your sake. It means that they owe you nothing, even an apology, and everything else is clean between them& you.

Listen, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen, and street preaching.
---Observer on 5/12/07

.ed, Scripture says, Be angry and sin not, let not the sun down on your anger. Anger is not forbidden. Christ did not beat the chairs nor floor, but he beat the people, he drove them right out of the church and right out his presence for good, and this he done on a high holy day. Please read Hosea 9:15; Mark 11:15-17; John 2:13-16. People think they can do whatever they desire to Christians, but I tell you you mess with God's kids and you're foolishly and suicidally messing with God, your Almighty Creator
---Eloy on 5/12/07

Dear Eloy
In my opinion you completely miss point of Jesus' anger in the Temple. His anger is aimed at a type of sin (worldly greed, and greed taking place in the temple), not specifically at the sinners of this sin. It is a spontaneous anger. More importanly He is also making a point. We can get angry like God about sin in general but we DON'T have the right to judge and get angry about individuals - NEVER. Of course we, sometimes, do because we are human but it is wrong.

Before we undertake any kind of Kingdom work for God we need go in secret prayer to the Lord. To seek His face on what we need to do. This is where we get our strength. Converting on the street is tough business(evangelizing). We need to be taught correctly...first. We need to pray that the Spirit of the Lord be with us as we go forth and to touch the hearts of those we will be witnessing to.
---Robyn on 5/11/07

Sorry for having to make two or three comments but just so much we can say in one post. You will not just be giving advice to the unsaved. You will be evangelizing and ministering to someone's spirit. A decision for all eternity. You need to be covered in prayer and in the blood of Jesus. Satan will be there to stop you, so plead the blood of Jesus before you go out to the streets. Put on you armor (Ephesians chap 6) and get ready for battle.
---Robyn on 5/11/07

Beloved,
If you need to ask what to do when and if someone throws ice cream in your face I don't think you are quite ready to street evangelize. What if someone spits on you or heckle you or something worse. It happens. Will you be able to handle that? You really need to go down in prayer,I feel, my friend. I don't feel in my spirit you are ready for the streets. Perhaps in your church you can find something safer to do, for now. Just a thought.
---Robyn on 5/11/07

What did Jesus do when he went into the church and found the ministers and parishoners taking peoples money? He retailiated, made a strong whip, and beat those sinners out of his temple. Those whom do not know the Almighty Christ Jesus will wrongly say that Jesus permitted people to spit on him and he did nothing in return, but the truth is he has a fiery hell which he himself has prepared for these hardened lumps of clay, and many are already there in torments for their blasphemy to God's grace.

Martyrdom is a far cry from pie in the face.
---Mario on 5/11/07

.eloy,I am sorry that you were assaulted, and yes, the guy could have been arrested.

In the whole scheme of things that happen to street preachers, this is trivial. In this world we do have tribulation, but that is not one of them.

Which is better for the cause of Christ: arresting him, and punishing him, or taking it as par from an unbeliever, forgiving, then moving on?

You may be making more ot this than there truly was.

Ice cream in your face. Well, it certainly could cause ones pride to be aroused. It bothers me when I try to give money out to little children at walmart and their mother saids, "what are you doing that for"? And I say, "I am just trying to be a blessing for Jesus Christ". Or sometimes they don't want your money they don't need it. And then later, I get smart alicky I think, not all people are out to get your snoddy noise kids. But most people are receiptive. Nice!
---catherine on 5/11/07

Jesus didn't have anyone arrested for physically or verbally accosting him. That is our standard... If Jesus "turned the other cheek", shouldn't we? So, go buy the guy another ice cream and encourage him to thow that as well if he wishes.
---daphn8897 on 5/10/07

Eloy
You don't get that having a sense of humour is about reducing anger and reducing stress. The person throwing the ice-cream in your face might have the ready seed of a Christian within them (remember St Paul was a persecutor of Christians before becoming the St Paul we know and love) - if that person sees that you take your God very seriously but that you have a sense of humour about yourself on such an occassion, then you stand a better chance of converting that person! - Aim high, be ambitious!
---Ed on 5/11/07

If I were going to get anything in the face I cannot think of anything more delicious than icecream. Lighten up Eloy. It is a bit late to arrest the guy now, and the icecream is all gone.

.ed, there is no humor in this issue. Do you know how hard he threw the ice cream at the Christian's face? It was not in any wise lovingly. He needs to be arrested, and it is not humorous.

Eloy
I don't want to get involved in a spat over ice-cream. Either you get the importance of having a sense of humour. Or you don't.

Eloy, We are under grace right now - otherwise Osama would've been struck down by lightening years ago. As far as reaping and sowing... God is in charge of what we reap. As far as unbelievers... what makes you think you'd have any "Christlike" credibility if you acted in such a retalitory manner? I know how I was before I was saved... you certainly wouldn't have been able to lead me anywhere by throwing me in jail... let alone to Jesus.
---daphn8897 on 5/10/07

Eloy: You can bet my husband does witness to them. After he arrests them, he has to take them to jail, which is in another county. He talks about God to them. Many knows him as "Preacher". The fellow officers either call him Preacher or by his last name. He does plant seeds.

Eloy, forgive me for this, but I have to ask: you mentioned in one of your recent posts about the love of Christ; to quote the old classic song, "Where Is The Love?" I can't find it in your posts; sorry.
---Mary on 5/10/07

.ed, The God of both testaments is One God and make no mistake, he is a God of Judgment. God is not mocked, and whatsoever a person sows that will he also reap. Do you forget how quick Jesus beat the people with a whip out of his temple? Or what happened to Judas Iscariot? Or how quick Ananias and Sapphira were struck dead for lying to the Holy Spirit?
---Eloy on 5/9/07

.rebecca, after he is arrested, then I would lead him to the Lord so that he too would become a born-again Christian. That really makes Satan mad, because he cannot stand it when people are righteous and they really express the love of Christ to each other.
---Eloy on 5/9/07

Well Eloy: I'll just let my husband chase after the criminals. After that is his job. But as far as someone doing me wrong, well God knows all and God sees all. In this day and age, people gets killed over nothing. And I don't want to take that chance. Even though it wouldn't be for nothing, it isn't worth me putting myself in harms way.

I'd say it's small potatoes compared to being martyred for your beliefs.
If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Don't quit your day job.
"I'm planning on converting".
That would be the job of the Holy Spirit. Since you don't know that, I think you should stay home.
---Mario on 5/9/07

There is a big difference between ice cream and a brick. Someone throwing ice cream knows it is an insult that won't destroy (unless you're dumb enough to wear linen or silk while street witnessing). Jesus did not defend himself physically when mocked. He did promise consequences eternally if no repentence. So, instead of overreacting... ask for a spoon or a cone to go with.
---daphn8897 on 5/9/07

If someone throws ice cream at me, I'd pray that they have a flat tire in four wheels.

It may not be too "Christian" but perhaps a more natural reaction.
---Caring on 5/9/07

Eloy
"For example, I can see the person throwing ice cream either losing their hands, or else getting a syndrome to where they must eat only ice cream in order to .."
Before becoming a Christian St Paul was a persecutor of Christians, who did far worse than throw ice-cream in people's faces.
The God of the New Testament is a God of forgiveness and compassion.

Eloy
I think it is Christian to have a sense of humour because sense of humour is about reducing anger and not taking our selves too seriously (yes we take God, the welfare of others, the salvation of ourselves and others - deadly seriously). The evil one laughs at other people - but is incapable of laughing at himself.
So we Christians should be able to chuckle at ourselves but never, of course, at others.
And keep smiling because Jesus says the Christian religion is about joy not misery.
---Ed on 5/9/07

.rebecca, running after a criminal who just assualted us in order to apprehend them is exactly Christlike. Yes, it is called citizen's arrest, and you would detain the criminal until the police arrive and take over. If you do not do your part, then do not expect God to do his. You do your best, and God will do the rest; however if you are able to do something but instead you choose to do nothing, then also God will do nothing.
---Eloy on 5/8/07

Eloy: We can stand our ground about God's word. Without running after someone whom does horrible things to us. Yes as Christians we need to speak up and take a stand on God's behalf. We also need to let that person know that not only did they offend us but God as well. But to chase someone down, just to get your point across, isn't Christ like. What would it be citizen's arrest? I do agree that we need to take a stand for God.
---Rebecca_D on 5/8/07

I have always said when Jehovah's witnesses have told me how people have thrown urine in their faces and spat at them , well the church I belong to did not door to door witness. If someone threw wee over me I maybe wouldn't be too happy about it and if they spat on me I wouldn't either but I would definitely ask God to give me the grace to endure the torment of the gospel in reaching others and say it was a blessed wee and spit anyway. So ice cream is definitely a nicer blessing!

Rebecca, perhaps this person is accustomed to assaulting people, especially Christians, because noone ever puts him in check. The public degeneracy is dispicable, maybe next time the offender will use a stone, a rock, a bottle or a gun. And why not? nobody's stopping him, and nobody cares.
